    How I hate the way the world works. These guys deserve to be every bit as big as DT. Fabulous music.

    Tragic that these guys are still criminally unknown compared to the other two Fathers Of Progressive Metal (namely Queensryche and Dream Theater). Amazing.

      I was just about to type a very similar comment (2 years later, haha). These guys are amazing and I often listen to them more than DT. It's kind of like Metallica and Megadeth for me. Metallica is far more popular, but I'll pick up a Megadeth CD far faster than a Metallica CD. Same with Fates.

      Exactly, especially since Fates Warning is definitely the best of the three.

    OG FW fan here, finally saw them live on thePerfect Symmetry tour at Dallas City Limits 11/26/89. IIRC they also played a bunch of No Exit songs which had us banging our heads hard! We were a bunch of guitar players, all in bands at the time and went to see them in respect. i remember they were FLAWLESS and sounded exactly like the album takes. Dallas in those days was so metal! I'm 51 now and still wear an "Awaken the Guardian" shirt to the local fancy grocery store....

    I was at this show, off to the left. Having the tables there was....odd. I wish we would've been able to stand right in front of the stage and really enjoy it. But still, FW put on a great show, I'm glad I got to see them live at least one in my life :)

    They played a fantastic show. This was a dream bill for me. Both bands were what got me into prog back in the mid 80's. FW opened for Queensryche (who was also really good despite Todd being sick) Was very cool seeing Joe come out and play with Fates, if only for one song. Will say Medina is an odd setup. It's set up like a banquet hall. There is a standing area in the middle, then they had this weird like seated VIP section, which if I recall correctly was in two parts with standing room on the left side, a middle section and then more standing room to the right. I've been to a few shows there, but never seen them set it up like that. The place was very full though. It was a nice turnout. There were actually significantly more people there than it looks like in this video. Good to see Queensryche rebuilding their fanbase and people realizing they've got back on track musically.

    I have been trying for 35 years to get into this version of Fates Warning after being a big fan of the John Arch version but I just haven't been able to do it. I love progressive music. I love how they use creative rhythms and chord changes. I love other bands of the same genre. By all accounts, I should be a huge fan but for some reason, the sound of the band just doesn't grab me! Ray is a great singer but I just find his voice to be generic and lacking identity. I've listened to the albums. I've watched live videos like this and it doesn't help that their stage presence is lacking also. They just don't sell it. I will continue to try because I really want to love this band and maybe someday it will click for me. I do respect their musical talent and they seem like good guys. Hoping to join you all as fans someday

    I have been listening to these guys since the 80s, their music has changed over the years, from really hard metal to more of a progressive metal, which has come to them from experience ..they are fine tuned at this point and they are one of my favorites here in the 20s. I really wish our younger generation would look at this and maybe keep it going. we live in a world of hip hop and I don't have anything against the style of music, you can see where we are headed and its not good.. music should bring emotions out and express your feelings and we can share that to one another.. it just seems our young ones are angry and feel mistreated before they leave high school if they even finish. Sorry for the rant, but this show was just before the George Floyd issue and look where we have come since then... it would be nice to see people like this and be civil and show one another respect.

    I love fates warning and I love rays voice but my favorite album and singer has got to be arch on vokills and awaken the guardian.. hands down.. that's the record that got me into these guys back in the day.. and I haven't burned out any other album by them since awaken the guardian.. that album just brings back so many memories it's ridiculous.. great band regardless.. I love fates warning.. thanks for sharing this video..

    Yeah, this is a dinner club set-up. There is a couple of clubs like this in Seattle. Never been to them though. I saw FW in Dec., 2013, at Studio 7, in Seattle, and the sound there is horrible, although when they played after the opening bands, it was considerably better. So glad I saw them at a proper sounding venue, in 1995, opening for Dream Theater, at The Moore, in Seattle.

    They sounded great! The audience, however, was lame. I haven’t been to a show at Medina since about 2003 and the table-thing sucked! I stood on the floor by some douche bags who started chanting “no more songs” after the 3rd or 4th song. What a terrible venue for these bands. But...I was excited to see them! Thanks for posting...

      Weird. I was there. I didn't see or hear the clowns you were talking about. I was actually pretty impressed by the audience response. From where I was, a majority of the people seemed to be genuinely into it. Wouldn't call it a "terrible" venue, but there are better for sure. Problem is, most of the 500-3000 'seat' clubs in the Minneapolis metro that are left area don't book hard rock or metal bands.

    I learned through Ray how to be a proper vocalist. Are there any female Fate's Warning fans? For an underdog band with an even more underdog fan base, I would love to hear from them. I'd break the stigma that Fates Warning is a musicians band. It's everyone's band for the thinking stripe of Classical musicians. I would love to hear your story.

    I am bummed I missed this. I knew they were coming to Mpls (after so many years) and forgot to put it on my calendar (ugh!). I do find it odd that the crowd is seated and being served. I have been to the Medina probably 8-10 times the last 30 years (the last show probably 6-7 years ago) and never saw this type of set-up for a hard rock/metal concert. How was it for the people who were there? Did you like it, or would you have preferred to have it the traditional (no tables) set up?

    • @fates019
      @fates019 4 роки тому +1

      I was at the show...and this set up I have seen there quite a few times now...I would say it's used to maximize profit when you only get 1000 or so people out to a show.
      You will get people to pay a couple hundred bucks for a meet and greet...some autographed merch, and in return they get an undistracted front row type seat. I was in the 2nd tier of the tables on the stage left side, and I will admit it was a great way to see my favorite band of all time.
