- 2020 Toyota Camry TRD review by The Straight Pipes. The Toyota Camry TRD is pumping out 301hp and 267 lb-ft tq from a 3.5L V6. Sitting at $36,785 CAD, would this be your pick over the Ford Fusion Sport, Honda Accord Sport, Hyundai Sonata N-Line, Mazda6 Turbo, VW Passat GT?

What do you think of the Camry TRD? Should they make a TRD Pro?
The Accord Type R needs to happen!
I agree.
I just can’t. Maybe if they added a LSD and more aggressive shifting.
AWD
Make it an AWD "adult" response to the WRX.
Toyota Camry TRD: The official car of "I'm married, I have a kid and I want a sports sedan, but I dont want it to break down."
Spot on :) I had an 06' M3 that I DUMPED money in every other month...... guess what I drive now.
Putting a wing on the car doesn’t make it a sports sedan
Bigger breaks, stiffer chassis, lowered tighter suspension and lighter wheels make it sporty.
@@highadvantage meh. It's not much when you've got the stinger,G80,340i,and other sedans right in its price range so it's not much of a sports sedan.
Base model stinger is close-ish, with less HP in the Camry's price range. The other two references aren't even in the same ballpark $$.
"I don't have friends. I got family...and right now we are late to soccer practice. Get in the car kids!"

Except with this kind of horsepower minivans will give you a run for your money
Realistically dom would roll up with the kids in a dodge Durango srt or jeep trackhawk 😅🤣😂
The equivalent would be a Charger GT. It has more horsepower 306, launch control, and 4wd though.
I know I’m getting old because this car seems to make a lot of sense.
True man 😂
@Whut not even about being broke but being a responsible adult with a family... You get a fun to drive commuter which is reliable and carry a family without dumping your kids savings into it yearly to keep it running... Adults have other expenses such as a mortgage, child care, savings etc.....
Crazy that people think spending 40k on a car is now considered "broke".
@@MelloHubb not even about being an adult with a family, I’m 13 and just think it looks dope
You’re not alone my man 😪.
@@aaronduran5908 When the accord sport exists Toyota should feel ashamed but being a fucking chevy jr, a body kit and a badge doesnt sell cars. Normies hate its looks and enthusiasts hate the performance. The wing does nothing but increase its drag for an already slow car and no actual track upgrades means the flagship body and name in racing is just a hollow shell for better parts to inhabit.
in 10 years this will be a teenagers pride and joy
...this is some teenagers pride and joy as we speak...
@@dericanslum1696 absolutely! wish i had this beauty. toyota reliable while still being able to have a bit of fun without going over the limit.
Buy this car when you want to stand out in the Uber lot at the airport.
Sure
I'm..ok. or just REALISTICALLY buy a base LE and call it good.
It is 5 sec full size sedan. Pretty neat tho 🤷🏻♂️
Or just get a base red camry and install after market wing
@Siddesh Gannu Except that a Lexus is just a Toyota, except in the US...where some need to feel like it's something else.
As someone who actually owns a TRD Camry....it's great! Very smooth and accelerates surprisingly well. With all wheel drive and about 75 more horses, it would be a perfect sports sedan.
What benefit would awd provide if your driving on pavement not offroad?
@@hassanjamal6094 Then why do a lot of street cars have AWD if it's useless on pavement? Do you not understand how it works?
@@hassanjamal6094 some of us live in the northeast
I don't remember the TRD being AWD...

Too be honest I wouldn't mind owning this in the next 5 to 6 years!

This just needs the supercharger from the Lotus Evora and a stick shift and it would be perfect. Edit: I know there is no way Toyota would make this car in manual, however if they just added the supercharger AWD and did some suspension upgrades they could sell it as the Camry GRmn and have a great sports sedan.
E🅱️ic
And get rid of the bling 🤤
And all wheel drive.
Non of these things will happen. Buy the Yaris GR.. Turbo, stick, AWD.
Honestly I'd be happy with just a manual. Lol
For the price this is really a decent car. Throw your dogs in the back and terrify unsuspecting family members by driving like a psycho in your Camry.
Well. There is the Legacy.
It has 300hp and its front wheel drive.... you arent even going to get a reaction to that lol. I had a Q50s awd with a faster trans, awd, and 338hp, unless you drive a prius daily and are deathly afraid of roller coasters, you wont have any reaction.
@@RexinOridle Charger GT is better
They won't be unsuspecting though, this thing looks faster than it is
lol You're not terrifying anyone with this thing. Most Soccer Mom's in their giant SUVs will keep or out run this car.
I honestly think this design is awesome. I am glad someone at Toyota got this approved. At least they are trying to make different variants to their normal cars. I would definitely get this over normal xse model.
I LOVE it! You can't accuse Toyota of making boring looking cars anymore. It really pops in that red. This car just screams for a 6 speed manual and a LSD. If it had those 2 things I know I would have gotten it. Thanks for the review!
I really like the looks of the car and you really get a lot for the price! A reliable, good looking, modestly sporty Toyota.
which cannot fit your snowboard, bike or a box from ikea 🙂
K Why tf would you get a sedan if you’re trying to fit those things. You sound dumb af
@@petrusedwardjr.2598 Sedans can fit stuff!
Anthony White II I never said a sedan can’t but if you’re looking to fit those things it’s better to get an SUV or pick up. It makes no sense to hold that against a sedan
Petrus Edward Jr. as Anthony said, sedans can fit things. I never had an issue fitting those items in my sedans and I never had an SUV because driving one is meh (unless you are willing to pay double and get something sporty like a 2y old porsche macan)
The sound of V6 with TRD suspension, 300HP ... what else a Dad needs, this is more than generous from Toyota and under 40k 🇨🇦👍
A 300 hp Camry! Unthinkable to me in the late 90s. To put that into perspective, it was around 2000ish that a mustang GT had about 300 hp. So for someone in their late 30s the jumps in performance in the industry in general is amazing.
The Camry TRD is the modern day version of the Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon NASCAR replica Monte Carlos from 20 years ago.
I would compare it to the bare-bones Plymouth Road Runner.
Charger Gt is better
So, ugly and useless?
Everyone forgets the Tony Stewart Monte Carlo
"This car is not your lifecoach" Yuri spitting profound facts
I love it when you guys test random, everyday cars. Keep it up!
I am stoked for mine to arrive. Being in the over 30 club. The camry will allow me to have a dependable car for when I have kids, but will allow me to hold onto my youth for just a little longer before it fades forever.
Following up on this. I love it. Fun car. Sounds awesome. Ride is super nice. Then someone scratched it two days in. RIP
A 300hp Toyota Camry. What a time to be alive 🙌
sad that it is still front wheel drive
BrianNC81 there’s nothing said about FWD. it’s better
@@toyotabrony if FWD were better, why are all high HP/high TQ performance and super cars RWD or AWD? We once owned a 250hp FWD car and hated the torque steer. Have a RWD BMW now and it's so much better. I couldn't imagine the 365whp/595lb of torque my BMW puts out (tuned twin turbo diesel) routed through the front wheels. 😂
Imagine if they put that power in the 86. Would be a dream
@@BrianNC81 well fwd efficient and light weight that's why you see 90s civics smoking some fools
Toyota dealership for the company I work for had a couple drive hundreds of miles to buy a TRD Camry only to have it ruined by an out of control driver cutting through the dealership and hitting it. Still sold it immediately after $20k worth of work. These things are so hot right now
So nice to see you guys back on the road!
I took my wife and 16 year old out for dinner this evening. He's currently learning to drive. We saw one of these in the parking lot. Same color, with some aftermarket window tint. My son loved it and talked about how cool it looked. Enough said. Of course, I sent him a link to this video.
I really am disappointed this TRD version did NOTHING to the engine and tuning, no AWD...
They would have to make it a very limited edition model. Less than 5000 because there’s no market for super Camry
They improved the handling.
Typical of Toyota. Look at any F sport.
Well the AWD Camry came out a few months ago so maybe Toyota will make an AWD Camry TRD at some point.
SunnyD88 not.
You guys should know, that your videos are really enjoyable and interestingly informative. Thank you.
I appreciate the breakdown/chapters of this video (as well as the title for each one).
I test drove the xse trim with the V6 last winter. I find that one to be more aesthetically pleasing to own over the trd trim.
Now Honda needs to make an Accord Type R to compete with this.
Chrisg69911 shouldn’t it be an acura tsx type r
Any Accord with the 2.0 engine will smoke the Camry. A tuned Accord would put boat lengths on this granny cruiser.
Nah. The existing Accord Sport with the 2.0T already competes with this just fine, sans the racer boy look.
It would be a lot better
In another review, it was claimed that the Accord was still several seconds faster than the Camry TRD on a track. (Although when I looked for actual numbers I didn't find the lap times for the TRD and didn't spend time looking further.)
The lack of a folding rear seat is instant death, whoever made that call needs a paddling.
Glad to see you guys back on the road, stay healthy and safe! 😎
Loving the new time stamps! Great presentation, as always, guys!
"Let's make it look fast without actually making it fast."

We are so spoiled these days. 2010 Mustang GT made 315 hp. This makes 305 and people call it slow... Wild times.
Maelstrom8 that’s because now there’s stock Dodges making well over double that’s now under for under $100k

I love how you can skip to what you want to know, like a time stamp during the vid and you glide to what you want to see, nice touch
Camry's have got so sleek looking over the years, I really love these new models. Love the white with red interior.
This car sounds badass. This is the only car in its class with these type of driving upgrades. So this is hands down the coolest sedan in its class right now would NOT be embarrassed to own and drive this car not sure why you guys said that. Car enthusiast are supposed to like cars like this.
The 2GR motor always sounds sweet with a exhaust. With these TRD upgrades this is definitely a sweet packaged car.
That wing on the back is a no no for me
You do realize most of the commenters can’t afford new cars right? Most of them have sloppy second used cars
June 7 meh. It’s a good and bad thing. Bad because finances aren’t strong. good because even if you do have strong finances that first year depreciation on a new purchase is slaughter. For example a 32k Toyota Trd new will be worth 22k after you drive it off the lot.

I agree with you 100 and I can’t wait for mine in the next couple weeks !!!
I'm so glad you put the old outro at the end!!
Thanks for the ending guys, loved it!
I’ll wait for the Prius TRD
it exists in japan, its pretty cool ngl
I can’t stand it when car companies put out a “sport version” but then basically keep the exact same power train as the regular model. Also, the rear deck spoiler on this is hilarious.
I was thinking StraightPipes should do a mass comparison of every brands "sport" or "GT" badged cars and see if they're actually that much more sporty than the regular versions
Right? Wish they'd at least give it a small power bump. There's definitely 10-15 more hp and a few torques to squeeze out of this engine with a slight tune
A more aggressive factory tune, intake and exhaust tweaks and they could easily pump out an extra 25hp and similar tq all while keeping the factory warranty and reliability. Honestly I think it has more to do with EPA requirements and fuel economy that stops most manufactures from adding power to these "sport" versions.
Agreed, the first time my dad and I saw this car, we both busted out laughing at the spoiler.
the regular power train is a 4 cylinder...
Cant believe youre almost at a mil! You grew so fast im so hyped!!!

Sub 6 second 0 to 60 is pretty fast for the average person.
the average person won't be looking for a car like this and the non average car enthusiast wouldn't be impressed by this either. i don't know who toyota is trying to target when they made this
Sammy Lam : i wanna say its for the average joe...who can easily spout details from a spec sheet than trying to memorize a mod build. 😂
@@sammylam1649 Maybe for a car enthusiast who can't yet afford a sports car. I'd be ok with this, and I actually love the look of the new Camrys.
Troy Andrade at around 30k, you'll be able to get much better cars, new or used. new car example: veloster N. used car example: too many to list, you can either spend all ur budget on a car in great condition or buy a shitbox and mod it to high hell with the leftover cash
Toyota is trying to get interest in midsize sedans. Also, to try and keep Camry as the best selling midsize car for 22 out of 23 years
00:52 that was by far the longest overtake in history. I'm sitting here thinking "Okay pull off screen now...you can get off screen...GO!!"

I didn’t knew how much I missed these reviews!!
Thanks for the video. I LOVE the Toyota TRD looks and all! I would totally get this over the XLE version and I am a dad in my mid-forties. It was on our short list for a new second car. You get a lot of car and performance for the money all wrapped up in that legendary Toyota quality. Frankly I don't know how Toyota was able to do it. There were ultimately two strikes against this car which made us go with something else. (1) this is not offered in a manual. My wife and I are all about saving the manual especially for our second car and (2) the car is too big :( We would not be able to fit this car in our garage with our other car. To us it always made sense to use a two car garage for two cars. Ultimately we got a Honda Civic Type R and with NO regrets. I do have to give respect where respect is due and I applaud Toyota for making this car. I really believe the people who would buy this car are looking at manuals. We were. Apparently, this car is selling very well for Toyota so we might see a manual in the near future. Thanks again for the review.
If the Accord came with the Type R version, that would compete with this
I agree
It would probably do a great job trouncing it. Not even a Honda man but Honda does go bonkers when it wants to.
Is the Accord still offered with v6 ?
Or a Sonata N.
@@ristekostadinov2820 Nope - just the 1.5T or the 2.0T - BUT it DOES come with a 6MT option (I love 2.0T 6MT!)

Happy you guys are back to normal
This engine sounds great , I heard the exhaust of a v6 Camry of this gen , I think it was straight piped and it legit sounded like a fucking racecar , I was so surprised that's a Camry
I think it is awesome, and one mistake you guys made in the intro was u said xse well it's based on the se trim not the xse. Just thought I should say that lol. They just removed the 4 cylinder from the se and put in the v6 from the xse with some suspension changes.
Actually my build sheet for my TRD states xse TRD.. So they are correct
The interior shots are really nice, cinematic looking with that high dynamic range, Really cool!!
I like the edit at the beginning where you guys close the doors and the car switches to being on the road but it’s in the same spot on screen
The Toyota Camry *"Shake n Bake"* Edition
Somehow, Camry + Sports Sedan will never match in my head.
Well that's probably because this is not that
Well on Camry SE with TRD it is becoming more of a sport. So sports sedan is a sport sedan
I love they are still making cars like this!! Us dad's need them to not feel completely bore. I got a 2019 GLI but this was 2nd on my list.
