Oh my good geesus, the car gods have answered my prayers and let a real one review the TRD, havent watched the vid yet cuz of this commercial but in anticipation I cant believe this is getting reviewed by you.
For me, Toyota nailed this car. I’m not a full blown car enthusiast. Being from the North east and wanting to keep a car for 10 - 20 years, this is perfect. Same tuning and components (so just as reliable) as the Camry but appearance only changes. That’s all I would want and I’m glad they got rid of the unnecessary high end features that don’t matter imo. I hope they keep it for longer. It’s semi affordable still and gives you a few extra goodies while maintaining the Toyota parts and tuning of the legendary Camry. A good daily car. Personally, it’s more fun and economical to buy a motorcycle instead of a sports car for when I want to tool around and have fun.
At 40k? A young family won’t have the income to afford this. And a family with 2 kids wouldn’t be shopping for a sedan, they’re going for the 3 row SUV. The XSE was more than enough of a sporty trim package, this..this is embarrassing. It’s as bad as the Civic Type R. It’s trying so hard to be cool and edgy that it comes off as an insult to any car enthusiast. Not to mention no manual or LSD (which I wouldn’t expect anyways) IF it was trying to be serious about its “sporty sedan” intentions. Just drive an Outback or CPO German sedan and accept you’re a middle aged suburban dad.
Matt McNicoll dude first off did you even watch the video? He said it is starting at $31k that’s nowhere near $40k plus also I admit no manual nor LSD can be a dealbreaker but who knows the Camry TRD could get a LSD as part of the update And also the Civic Type R is not bad yes it does look edgy but remember there are more uglier cars out there like the new Camaro And of course it is practical as it seats 4 people and has plenty of boot space And not every family with 2 kids will go straight to a three row SUV Some will look at sedans some will look at wagons
@@constructionbootgazer yeah but a Civic Type R makes actual sports cars sweat on track. It's not being marketed as something it's not. Regardless of what you think about its looks. And if you think a CTR it's an embarrassment I'd invite you to get slapped around by one around a road course. This is something else. 31k is not bad compared to a lot of new cars but considering how little enthusiasts precense Toyota has, something with a TRD badge that is not a truck these days just honestly isn't for anyone other than a Kool aid drinking Toyota fan (and this is coming from someone with a a TuRD Pro truck). Sad thing is they won't have trouble moving them, but I suspect they won't get any crosshoppers or anyone used to dailying an actual fun car. TLDR you have some valid points but you're definitely wrong about your comparison with segment leading hot hatch.
But it's not fun to drive though. It drives like any other Camry. Something like the old Ford Mondeo ST (XR5) with the 5-cylinder turbo Volvo engine and manual transmission only is much more on the mark.
Love the video. As informative as ever. I expected you to say that the suspension made it handle ALOT better than cars in its class or even the base Camry. I am going to test drive it in 8 months when I’m ready to lease again, and if I can break away from buying a SUV... thanks for the honesty and attention to detail with your reviews.
I payed less than the base price of this for my 2019 WRX premium with the sport package (the red and black STI interior with recaro seats and upgraded brake pads) including delivery cost. I'll keep the manual transmission, better interior, great infotainment, and AWD for a cheaper price thank you very much.
I had 2013 FR-S (first model year) and put about 70K miles on it with no issues at all. I only had to do basic maintenance (Oil, brake pads, tires, etc.). I then sold it to my friend and he had to replace the clutch at 97K miles. That's pretty good considering that was my first manual car as well as his first manual too. I've had no issues with my WRX (granted I'm at 13K miles). From what I've read the FA20 is very reliable (especially compared to the EJ25) and my experience backs that up.
Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to make good quality car review videos.
As someone who has spent 6 months fixing an 05 beater Camry in a place where parts are hard to come by or expensive to import, things like mechanical hvac controls make life a lot easier.
Seriously considered this car in January. Opted for a 2017 Lexus IS300 F Sport (used) for $25k. Much better look and enjoyment driving the Lexus F Sport V6
To each his own, but I'd never choose used over new. Enjoy the jizz the previous owner left on the seat for you. Probably wiped herpes all over the steering wheel and controls as a bonus.
Having previously owned a Camry for 15 years the comment you made at the 11:34 mark defines the Camry best: "Nothing stands out here that's great in any single way and to me that's what's great about this for the traditional Camry buyer." So true. That's what makes the Camry such a great car. For me it performed like a Swiss watch that always did what I needed it to do and never let me down. When you add up all the things that it does well enough and although mostly not exciting, remarkable or particularly memorable, it does add up to a satisfying ownership and driving experience.
i gotta say the TRD Camry is a really, really good looking car but leaving out the LSD is such a huge setback. no manual option pretty much separates this car from real enthusiasts as well
Would an enthusiast buy a comfy Camry, though? Seems to be that a manual+LSD would only make sense if Toyota also implemented the other tweaks that Goose had grievances about.
I'm here watching a review of a model which is not even imported in the country I live in. I’m here cause I really appreciate your cinematography (truly top notch) and the degree of technicalities inside your reviews. Moreover you always put every single piece of evaluation into a market perspective, so I am getting to know more about consumer market in the US. Keep up with your good job!
They half did a Fusion Sport. The regular Camry is closer to sporty than the regular Fusion, so it didn't need as much changed, but at least the Fusion sport was AWD with ABS LSD.
Toyota didnt care about making this an actual sport sedan. They just added some crap and hoped to charge a premium . And totally agree. This is why an 02 Maxima is a much better car than this. Man I miss my Maxima
Hey mark. I watched your live stream from a few weeks back and you we’re looking at a new car. How come you’re not going with the new Mazda 3? In your Mazda 3 review you really enjoyed that car.
Great review! Yes, the auto mags made it sound like this was some 'clean sheet' car that was very unlike a Camry. They said the same thing about the Corolla XRS hatch, which was also a major disappointment from an enthusiast's standpoint. So glad this channel exists.
I am picky about cars....specially interior materials, and I like european cars most. Currently driving an E Class. But i'll say this: for that price, this gotta be the most value car you'll ever gonna get and it's the smartest decision long-run too ! Interiors look decent enough, there's good tech and exterior design too...I just can't find flaws in a car that's 31k $ with a V6 and looks like this. This and the new Corvette C8 are the value *KINGS* imo
CashK Enterprises haha, any 21 year old would look at this and laugh as they drive away in their civic/86/sti. Or they would be scared the neighbour next door is trying to hang out with them.
Great review. At 7:56 can you magine if you'd floored that Camry TRD? 🤣 I hope Toyota is listening to the improvements to be made. Esp limited slip diff and tall 2nd gear.
Its a great car for young dads and rideshare drivers where they feel like theyre getting something cooler than a regular camry without really compromising what the car needs to be, and I think thats ok too, especially when other really sporty options exist as well
First thing I said when they announced this thing, “no lsd?” Hopefully Toyota thinks on it and has a refresh. Hopefully Honda see’s the sales of the TRD and gives us an Accord Si with an lsd
This is legit for a everyday sedan. The most sporty car in its class hands down missing a manual but the chassis upgrades combined with the lighter wheels larger brakes an aerial kit and all the other changes makes this a legit enthusiast car. This only family sedan with personality Sorry Mazda 6 and Accord. For the price this can’t be beat no other car in its class offer any of these upgrades. Good stuff Toyota now lets take it a step further and make a GR Camry. Also it sounds badass with the TRD better then the Honda V6 more smooth and refined. ALSO I agree on not putting the LSD on this car that was a big mistake and that drop from 1st gear to 2nd gear really kills the speed. This car could have really been a legit performance sedan but I agree they purposely didn’t go all out. But even with this this TRD Camry is still the best in class.
@@tinhinnh They won't. Folks ask for it but it never sells. For all the GT86's sold only 33% were manuals. Most folks want auto's for the real world while claiming they won't buy a car if it doesn't have a manual online.
Paul S had a 05 legacy last year and it started rod knocking after only a few months of having it with around 145,000 miles Now have a 2010 Camry with 165,000 miles with 0 issues Will never get anything other than Toyota again.
Man, it's the TRD poser styling pack and the wing looks nice and fits the idea, but how can you not ask for a brake caliper recolor?? They're literally drawing attention to themselves pretending to be hot stuff but it makes it more obvious that they're not.
If Camry was available with a manual transmission, I would buy it over an Accord. And the TRD Camry would really have been exclusive with a manual transmission! Preferably with the naturally aspirated v6 but at least with the 2.5L four cylinder.
That center console must be HUGE, it makes your hand look so small, like you were just a baby! Great review, appreciate your candor, good or bad SG will let you know.
I used to work at a Toyota Dealership back in the day when the Camry was last offered with a manual V6 combo. The manual models were a different beast than the automatic. It could put down a lot of power and torque. It could chirp the tires all the way to 3rd gear. That was truly a fun car to drive.
An excellent in-depth review as usual. Compared to what Doug Da Manure pushes out that gets millions of reviews your output is always of a high standard. (Manure in the UK is horse shit)
Just got a rental one of these. Your review is spot on Savage Geese, Without a LSD it's just a pretender. A manual would be cool if you like bigger cars but will never happen at this price point. : (
Im really disappointed that in the "In the shop " segments you don't seem to include anything about the engines in the recent videos. I like hearing the specs and the outputs of the engines, i also liked to hear if the were direct injected or not, and just your overall thoughts on the engines. Love the videos !!
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811 GR Supra is of course nicer, but that's not an upgrade. But there's a GR Yaris coming and that has some seriously expensive upgrades, it seems. Carbon fiber roof, proper racing brakes and such.
I'm shamelessly in love with my Accord 2.0T Sport manual. It goes about it's business in secret doing 0-60 runs in the mid 5 seconds while handling like a "family" sedan has no business handling like. It doesn't have glitzy badges, blacked out this and that or extra aero. The Accord is comfortable in its own modest skin while the Toyota has to shout for attention. I'll take the nimble, fast, "sleeper" sans boat anchor anchor V-6 under the hood.
The whole concept of performance automatics is contradictory to me. I think you have the top choice in the segment. Toyota should use a tiny fraction of its $billions to at least offer a manual .
I love my 2.0T 10AT. The transmission is excellent. Just one $500 tune away from mid 13s. Full bolt ons mid 12s. Make sure to use 93 octane for more horses. Our computers can adjust to it.
I have a 2.0t 2020 manual. Honestly I love that this Camry is available. But they needed a manual or a better auto with limited slip. Also a lot less features than accord. Add a rear sway bar and ur good to go!
thank you for the video! Wow did anyone else see how small those rotors were?? Or were they the rear brakes....?? I love these guys. glad this virus scam hasn't stopped them. hope you keep going for many years to come guys 🙏
I think it's actually cool for the older guy who maybe isn't into cars and this might make start him as a car guy. And the cheapest way you can get a v6 I would test drive one if I was in the market. Edit I see there is no lsd and same engine trans tuning. I think with a refresh they will change that with the amount they are selling.
When I put Goodyear Eagle Exhilerates on my Turbo Mazda6, it pretty much solve all the traction problems that I had(That you also show in your review of the Turbo Mazda6). I am quite happy now. Mazda should've put these tires on the car to begin with, especially since the Goodyears are comparable in comfort and noise yet handle the torque of the 2.5L Turbo so much better over the stock Falken crossover tires. I'm actually surprised the summer tires wouldn't help a V6 powered Camry like this.
@rockn roll All four. I was initially going to go for Michilen Primacy's or Pilot Sports, but the new Goodyear Exhilerate got great reviews, along with someone on a forum who purchased them over the Michelins for their own Turbo Mazda6.
If they offered this car wit ha stick shift and especially with AWD, it would actually have a place as an enthusiast vehicle. Something in the same vein as a Mazdaspeed 6 GT or Galant VR4 for the modern age. Great engine in a good looking car, held back for real enthusiast driving by the drive train after the engine. Nice review as always.
BASITH PH i agree ! i didn’t think about it till now but the v6 is only available in the xse and xle which is in the near 40k range but now you can get it for Se prices
I have a 2015 XSE V6, and with less power than the current V6 all it wants to do is spin the tires. Hell, in snow the traction control can't even reign it in enough to keep the wheels from spinning madly if you get on the throttle. You'll have to pry that V6 from my cold dead hands though. Silky smooth and bulletproof reliable.
@Alec Empire Yeah, that was with brand new Pirelli P7s. Try again. They are getting worn now, so they even want to spin from a straight start on dry pavement. I replaced the factory garbage Bridgestones at 13k because they were already downright dangerous in the wet.
Man what an Intro. I feel like I was watching a slowed-down montage in American Beauty or some shit when a guy is dying but he remembers the big moments. But there's a car.
So, I had to watch this review. I was originally in the market for a sports car, I had a toddler and a baby on its way. Wifey did not like the selfish sports car idea, but I saw the brochure while getting an oil changed. I came with some similar thoughts on my research which lead me to getting a used MKZ driver’s package instead for less money. Overall happy with the choose.
Just wanna say, on top of a great review as always, I must appreciate that you have the isoacoustics stands and PreSonus Eris 4.5 speakers that I have on my desk. Didn't realize anyone else used any of that, thanks for representing that too!
Only watching this because someone tried to race my 435i XDRIVE (MHD Tune) in theirs and obviously got stomped lol but I applaud the confidence and now I’m intrigued by these cars
Thanks for the good review. Other reviewers praised that car into the sky, but you had some interesting points on what isnt that good about it. Despite that, I still would like one, but we only get the Hybrid version in Europe, as far as I have seen. And for 40.000 € starting price...nope.
The single biggest issue seems to be the absence of an LSD. The “performance-inspired” case could be made with that included. Same issue the “one-tire-fire” 2.0t 6MT Accord has. Well, if you added your own LSD, and changed the final drive ratio while you were in there, maybe these would be Sporty.
I personally would never purchase a new Camry for sporty driving with this new TRD appearance package. The regular base Camry is definitely my preferred Camry if I was cross-shopping this vehicle with the Honda Accord, Hyundal Sonata, etc. I feel like this TRD package is too much in my face.

Honestly I think it’s great that Toyota made a Camry TRD that’s an affordable fun-to-drive sedan
Makes a good family car
He said it is starting at $31k that’s nowhere near $40k plus also I admit no manual nor LSD can be a dealbreaker but who knows the Camry TRD could get a LSD as part of the update
And also the Civic Type R is not bad yes it does look edgy but remember there are more uglier cars out there like the new Camaro
And of course it is practical as it seats 4 people and has plenty of boot space
And not every family with 2 kids will go straight to a three row SUV
Some will look at sedans some will look at wagons
@Paul S Toyota reliability died 6 years ago, you Toyota freaks are afraid to speak about that. Nothing but plastic parts in the engine 😂🥱

Beautiful cinematography....oh yeah - it's a UA-cam video...better than many movies I've seen! Excellent work!
The best thing is , it doesn't cost billions :)
As someone who has spent 6 months fixing an 05 beater Camry in a place where parts are hard to come by or expensive to import, things like mechanical hvac controls make life a lot easier.
13:59 "Second gear is so tall".Yep, it sounds like passing from 1st to 3rd gear.
@@nodak81 hahaha bro I laughed out loud. Sounds like something my dad would say. I love the banter
Never thought a Camary would have a TRD package but then again, it's 2020 so sounds like anything's possible.
Never thought the Avalon would 😂
I think this stacks up nicely against the upcoming Sonata N Line. Main reason to choose this is the excellent exhaust sound and V6 powertrain.
I know I'm dreaming but if this had a 6-speed manual and an LSD it would be an ultra attractive proposition.
Toyota didnt care about making this an actual sport sedan.
They just added some crap and hoped to charge a premium .
And totally agree.
This is why an 02 Maxima is a much better car than this.

Hey mark. I watched your live stream from a few weeks back and you we’re looking at a new car. How come you’re not going with the new Mazda 3? In your Mazda 3 review you really enjoyed that car.
Savagegeese is a great example for content makers 😎
For those having a mid life crisis but still want to make a reasonable decision

Matt McNicoll well my neighbor is schizophrenic and threatened to murder me, so you’re right on one aspect😅

Slow sellers. Especially now with covid 19
At least the Accord 2.0L can be modified by using the same LSD used in the Civic Type-R. It actually drops in without any modifications.
Coming from a 2018 CHR and upgrading to the 2021 TRD. Everything is an upgrade and thats morethan enough for me
I think the Camry TRD is tremendous value for a garden variety family sedan at $31k, I personally would spend a little more and get TRD Avalon.
It needs a manual option with LSD.
Yes. Like the 02-03 Nissan Maxima!
04-07 TL was the same. LSD's are so underrated sadly.

I drove a V6 XSE and I loved it, but the car was ultimately just too big for city living. The 4 banger is pretty slow, but the V6 was genuinely fun.
I used to work at a Toyota Dealership back in the day when the Camry was last offered with a manual V6 combo. The manual models were a different beast than the automatic. It could put down a lot of power and torque. It could chirp the tires all the way to 3rd gear. That was truly a fun car to drive.
Thanks Mark for keeping the same “in the Shoppe” music! Love it.

An excellent in-depth review as usual. Compared to what Doug Da Manure pushes out that gets millions of reviews your output is always of a high standard. (Manure in the UK is horse shit)
Finally some good content on youtube 😃😃
Just got a rental one of these. Your review is spot on Savage Geese, Without a LSD it's just a pretender. A manual would be cool if you like bigger cars but will never happen at this price point. : (
Im really disappointed that in the "In the shop " segments you don't seem to include anything about the engines in the recent videos. I like hearing the specs and the outputs of the engines, i also liked to hear if the were direct injected or not, and just your overall thoughts on the engines. Love the videos !!
That's why he referred to his regular Camry review there.
The TRD just reminds me of how good the old Altima SE-R was back in the day.
It is a Fast n' Furious car that your parents agreed to buy FOR you. The real deal for Toyota performance stuff is now called Gazoo Racing.
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811 GR Supra is of course nicer, but that's not an upgrade. But there's a GR Yaris coming and that has some seriously expensive upgrades, it seems. Carbon fiber roof, proper racing brakes and such.
This is great! Thanks Mark & Jack.
If it comes with red neon underglow 👌 Exquisite.

It’s great that at $31k, the Camry TRD is a bargain for a new car and it’s fun to drive

I'm sure I've commented something similar previously; your videos are works of art.
I've been wondering if this was the year that Toyota were planning to re-launch the Corona model.
