Good review of common retro gear and it’s problems. I’m a Cold War Sgt. Distributing the weight between hips and shoulders and having an ALICE medium pack resting on it is far better than the current chest rigs, plate carrier, and 3 day assault pack all riding on just your shoulders. Many guys find that they are both top heavy and experience back pain with chest rigs, and find going prone with a plethora of pouches in the front difficult. I use the suspenders with paracord attached to a Condor gun belt. I use a few ALICE pouches but mostly MOLLE pouches attached to the belt to tailor both access and load. Suspenders and belt is the best system to fight in. Modern British belt kit is very good and I hate to say it but the British kit is what ALICE should have become. At the first sign of fraying I melt it with a lighter, and turn the pouch inside out to reinforce any separating seams with heavy duty thread. Old school works but it could have been improved. I liked the vid.
For comfort the H harness keeps your shoulders from being pinched and a light infantry veteran could fix most of the other issues you mentioned. I still have my Alice gear and it weighs about 27 lbs and will keep me alive for 72 hrs
Getting harder in some areas, people are starting to try and sell the 3 mag pouches for 30 bucks now. Now you can find them cheaper at surplus stores but I don't live anywhere close to one
@@douglasjohnson855 seriously? I paid $3.00 a peice for unissued brand new dated 2002. Probably some of the last made. Gun shop in NH had a box piled full of them.
Yeah there is a guy selling them for 30 bucks in town and I'm said hell no I paid way less a year ago. There is no surplus stores near by closes. Is 3 hours away
What size is the belt you've got? Mines a large fyi you can get the belt extender for wearing with cold weather gear. I put my ALICE belt into a Condor MOLLE battle belt much more comfortable!
Very true. Most I can fit at 5' 8" is what you have plus the holster . I often swap out between Alice webbing and the lbv88e , I like them both, and would use either should the need ever arise.
ALICE gear: It's plentiful, affordable, tough, and adaptable. Can run 308 mags along with 556. In the summer it retains no heat and distributes weight evenly, when wet it dries fast, works well in arid or damp climates. mission length you're looking at 12 good hours of mission duration before you need to top off.... that's if you didn't make contact! But I'd highly advise setting up an ALICE rig just to have it around if you need it!
The nylon ALICE Buttpack wasn't really that great or durable for the troops sometimes they would hit the surplus stores to pick up the older M1961 buttpacks which were more durable and waterproof and could still hold the same amount of gear. Plus the handle on the buttpacks is actually where the Etool usually went or you can add two more ammo pouches in that space. And add two IFAK's to the sides of the buttpack. The setup on mine is two ammo pouches on the belt two canteens buttpack and a ammo pouch on the suspenders. Also a LAW tupe can be attached underneath the buttpack using the supplied straps where the poncho roll goes.
I still need to get my john Wayne dense bdu top. From tru spec but I get shit for wearing the pants for bushcraft but bdus stand up to that line of recreational activities better than jeans
hey quick question im building a alice belt kit and i made the mistake of buying non alice suspenders, If i was to use the Y or H harness to connect to the belt to wear under a plate carrier without a buttpack which should i get. Y or H harness for belt mounting only under plate carrier
@@doitriteak Thanks i just waned to make sure theyd work without the buttpack i use a ratnik small backpack as my buttpack. Ill deft look into the british yoke system iver never seen it. Does the yoke system work with alice LBE belt
I’m just some random dude on the internet but I can say I certain dislike that style of buckle. I think the newest fastex type buckle on the pistol belt is way better, I think you would like it more too.
So, then, according to you, anybody over the height of 5 feet 10 inches is a big fat ass? Well here's a movie line quote for you from Smokey and the Bandit, when Bandit cannot figure why the dang Sheriff is chasing so relentlessly. He asks the Sheriff " do the letters FO mean anything to you? I'm over 5 fett 10 inches tall and I am not a fat ass and so I tell you FO.

All those tires are holding water, perfect nursery for mosquitoes
poke holes in the sides,so that they can drain out.
Just put some diesel in the water, mosquitoes dead.
I love my Alice gear. All I will use.

If you look you can still find all this stuff in unissued condition. Great gear.

They are like 5 bucks a piece here. No one wants them
God we got asshats here who want more then they paid here
I like your uniform tiger stripe is the best camouflage out there.

Electrical tape or camo duct tape the excess webbing.
That is Tiger Stripe Camo sir from Vietnam special operations units wore it

Do you like the y suspenders more than the h suspenders? If so what’s your reasoning?
No experience with the H suspenders
Your talking about the M1956 H suspenders right?
@@michaelbenjmitchell1 either m56 or m67 it doesn’t matter
I suggest getting the newer buckle, I think it’s the LC2 belt?
Later generation lc2 yes
doitriteak ah, thank you!! I figured it was correct but I’m never sure of myself
Austrialpin will be selling retrofit buckles for these old belts.
The m56 gear is far superior to the Alice... Few guys actually used the m56 suspenders with the belt
Shane Hanson What's your source for info? M56 was used most of VN war. MLCE was in last part.

I agree. I had that older style come loose during low crawling. Never had the fastest style do that to me.
You’re maybe 30 years old? What year were you in boot camp with ALICE gear?
2007
Good review, have run this gear stating in 80. Have had a plate carrier- and don’t like it at all.
Try using ta 50 gear old school Vietnam gear none of the plastic metal locking pins on the belt Alice clips on all other gear
Lots of unissued Alice out there too.
As a fellow fat ass I can confirm that you can carry a regular rifleman kit with basically 4 to 6 extra pouches and still have room
your weird but i like you.

Out of everyone you are the only one who has interpreted that as meaning Fat Ass.
