Each of the kids has a set of bad habits they always fall back on. I think Shiv's is that she always tries to play both sides, but is so transparent about it that she just ends up burning bridges on both sides.
She's so unserious (none of them are tbh), it's actually funny. Her intelligence is her biggest downfall for sure. Like you said, playing both sides and then burning the bridges because ACTUALLY, she has no clue what she's doing
i mean in all fairness i feel like the kids all do the same things they just do it differently or it looks different bc they have different personalities but they all play both sides, they’re all manipulative, spoiled, get angry and vindictive when they don’t get their way i can go on. i feel like they all just copied logan’s personality least of all maybe connor
I like how Jeremy strong sometimes narrates the after show documentary in first person from Kendall's perspective, makes it seem like a reality tv confessional
the writers did such a good job bc the way you can see attributes the kids inherited from logan in all of them, the manipulation, and switching back and forth in saying sweet nothings to stroke your ego to get u on their side to the dragon that comes out when they don’t get their way, the cunning, the ability have their way with words but still sound like their own individual person with different personalities it’s soo damn amazing
Logan only wanted a hug from Shiv because the paparazzi were there, so he wanted her seen publicly supporting him. I thought it was smart of Shiv to stay in the car.
I know what you mean. On my first watch he was one of my least favorite aspects of the show not even characters. Now I realize how important and sympathetic his character is.
I honestly felt that his character has a lot going on for him and people usually overlook it. With Kendall and shiv we know exactly what's going on,what they want. It's always been obvious. Roman however,is much more complex as the middle child
He’s also a pervert with severe daddy issues because of the physical abuse. Each kid is both supremely qualified and a total disaster at the same time.
This show is damn incredible man - the kids negotiation scene in this episode works even better on rewatch having seen how it all works out. I cannot fathom how these writer pulled any of this off. The layers are exquisite.
Its so funny how Shiv hasnt worked a day in her life in Waystar, when Logan brought her in to learn under Frank she just ditched and now she is all shocked Pikachu face when people tell her she cant take over because she has absolutely zero experience. Huh.
that's the main thing that irked my nerves the most. roman and kendall are incompetent in their own ways but they've put YEARS into the company. i bet they went to college, graduated and started working at the company immediately. shiv went her own path so i dont understand why it's not clicking.
@@indiefairy09 I also noticed when I rewatched season 1 that Kendall mentions going to Shanghai, doing all that groundwork stuff after he got out of rehab. He was committed to get that job. Worked decades for it. Shiv gets told by Logan to put in a few years in season 2 and shes incredibly offended by how long she would have to wait. This channel put it best: Shes a spoiled brat.
Isn't the point that Logan was never going to let her take over. He told Ken when he was like 7 that this would all be his and when the time comes he tells Ken in the first episode that it could be decades away.
yeah, she expects everything to be handed to her, and as Rhea said, she thinks she is smarter than she really is. They all would be at most medicore executives, but formally speaking Kendall has the most experience (and probably education) related to business. However he just can't handle the top position, and also swallows any buzzword that is popular at the time (he would be all over AI). He is just designed to fail and self destruct over, and over again. Roman in the other hand has the best takes and intuition business wise, but is not assertive and is easily influenced, so we have many scenes where he says something smart, only to be pushed over. Shiv... Dunno, she has some political experience, but is way, way too transparent, and as we will see in the future episodes emotions rule her way to easily, like she does not understand where the Waystar power base is, and that without their niche in politics they are just an another tv station, withour strong political muscles.
this show is so horribly realistic in the way it shows the long-term effects of childhood abuse. like, the way Logan barely has to twitch a finger and the kids instinctively duck for cover and start blaming each other so maybe his rage will be directed at someone else is just so real and fucked up. all he effectively does with that box of donuts is tell the kids he knows they're all talking, but he's such a fucking monster that a small reminder of his power is more than enough to splinter the siblings apart

@@andrewstephens5885 i mean, i'm a girl but guys can point out internalized misogyny. it's not a malicious instinct, it's just that we tend to hold women to a higher standard and have little tolerance for personal failings from them, esp qualities like selfishness, etc. everyone has this problem, men and women and kids alike. i totally agree, shiv is horrible, but i think the commenter is picking up on the girls singling shiv out for doing things everyone else on the show does, eg. being self-interested, or the out of pocket verbal insults, which is how all these kids talk to each other on a daily basis.

Old video but the internalized misogyny is evident here. There’s no way you’re singling Shiv out for doing the same things that her siblings have already done. Sure she’s entitled, selfish, and not a good person. But Kendall and Roman are both worse.
Roman is morally repugnant and cruel. I’ll never understand where this mentality comes from. They’re all vile, and the fact their dad is a piece of shit excuses nothing.
