I was wondering about if my low rank strats on rein can possibly be applied to high rank, so just hear me out: Since the fun version (aka walk up while flashing shield/shieldhopping forward and using cover to dominate space to eventually brawl/rush) is not exactly working because of certain heros... I have been playing in a manner where I hold corners/natural cover and eventually back away (while flashing shield/shieldhopping backward) until DPS gets at least 2 picks in a single battle because otherwise Rein is forced to be at the mercy of Support/DPS to stall until it occurs. If the 2 picks occur, then Rein can approach with Charge and start the counterattack (fun part)
That is what I've been doing in my rein games and it has been working. The problem is when the enemy team decides to target you with mei, zen, orisa, and a pocketed bastion and synergistically push in on you all the way to spawn not letting up. Luckily that has only happened to me a couple times, mainly when they get annoyed at my rein not dying. The swap to sombra happens when I outplay the bastion in the comp I just mentioned. I hope they help rein because he desperately needs help this season. Flats brought up the idea of the tank passive applying to all debuffs against tanks (30 percent resistance against discord, anti-nade, cc, and giving others ult charge. I think that as the new tank passive could work to fix tanks as long as the devs balance the stronger tanks when implementing this imo.@@nm3k511

I’m so burnt on desperation bastion when playing rein, doom, or Winston. I know it’s a counter swap game, but it’s so obnoxious when they swap from like a genji to bastion.

Tanks should universally be less susceptible to enemy abilities effects. They have boop reduction and lower anti time, just blanket it to most abilities. Less impacted by DPS passive, less impacted by discord orb, etc Also make his shield have less movement penalty
imo they should straight up add 50% resistance against cc and debuffs to tank role. Discord, dps passive, boop, stun, nade, dart whatever everything should have half of it's effect. They can nerf it to 30% over time.
Rein seriously needs another ability. He can’t do anything while shielding, he only do damage on close range, has no mobility. Like, he seriously needs something and not just another fortify.
I still think there should be two tank roles in addition to whatever they need to do to zen because the tank counter meta that has sorta formed is horrible for the tank experience and two tanks are harder to outright counter than one.
I seen Rein work and even made Rein work myself... Just trying to play the fun way is not possible this patch. Most of the time Rein is forced to stall and eventually back away until either a Shatter is available to use at the right moment or be at the mercy of support/dps to have outlast the fight until the DPS gets at least 2 picks.
Rein is only playable in quickplay and below masters. I started masters 2 this season, lost almost every game and deranked to diamond. Then won every game in diamond and climbed back to M5
The devs should’ve seen the positive changes that occurred from doing this to sleep and applied it to every other cc/debuff in the game. If the value is the same across the board, then people are ALWAYS going to default to applying those effects to the tank in this 1/2/2 format.
I love the S9 changes as well, but the long-standing problem of Blizzard being madly in love with Orisa is holding the game back. Buff fire strike to 125 damage, nerf/rework discord orb so it only buffs Zen's own damage, and nerf Orisa gold so it only prevents CC and crit damage. Shouldn't give damage reduction.
I'd make an amendment to the Zen change, and let whoever he has a harmony orb attached to also get the bonus damage. If only Zen can use it then it's basically a useless ability, no way to support your team and you might as well just buff Zen's damage to 60.
It makes perfect sense that a small omnic floating in the air can kick a hunk of metal armor few feets away just as it makes perfect sense that Mauga cannot be counter charged
The only thing I hate about this patch is the dps passive is annoying cause now you aren’t punished for shooting the tank and now you can just perma de buff the tank 24/7 that passive is creative but they need to tweak it a lil bit
i feel like this applies to all tank players, its just not fun being chased by a tracer with the debuff and just the moment zen steps on the same continent its just back to spawn
Man, as a rien main since OW1, I left when Lifeweaver came out. I loved being in frontlines, leading my team to victory. Keeping track of cooldowns and calling the shots like a leader was awesome to me. But now, his character is a literal joke now. Shatter doesn't even matter anymore unless you somehow get all 5. You gotta watch out for Bap, Kiriko, Lifeweaver, Orisa spear, Shields, etc. You can completely outplay the other tank in mind games and get punished for it. He's so easily counterable, and other tanks just mop the floor with him.Charge can be canceled, nullified, etc. Firestrike is easily avoidable unless you are in their head. You can barely swing at all or you might die instantly if they got a Zen or not. It's so different compared to season 1 or OW 1 in general. And comparing that new tank to Rien. Riens damage output is so BAD. The gigachad of tanks reduced to a laughing stock. Idk how you guys do it. But carry on my fellow rien mains. Honor and Glory, my friends. Because I'm done.
From my point of view (as a Rein main), Rein has 4 fundamental problems 1.The Firestrike feels weaker, the buffs to everyone's HP don't help it, I know that the hitbox is bigger, but it still feels strange (in the third point I propose 2 changes for the firestrike). 2. Comparing the Life of the other Tanks (HP/Armor/shields), Rein feels more basic and very simple, it does not have many benefits in comparison (yes the shield will have a lot of life compared to that of other tanks, but it is not very versatile, there are also characters that melt shields, such as mauga, hog, bastion, etc.). 3.He lacks his own Passive Skill, and if we take the above into account, it means that Rein cannot provide much more than his shield and his area damage at short (but very short) distances, I think that a passive skill would be useful for him. Just from him it would be good (as to give examples, the shield regenerates instantly when you have less than 30% of your total health or the firestrike recharges the shield's health by 5% for each opponent hit, or 5% speed for each enemy hit by the firestrike, IDK blizzard usually has better ideas, I think that they will perfectly find one that doesn't BREAK Rein but that does make him playable against other characters). 4. The shatter doesn't feel so good, if the suzu exists (FUCK THIS ABILITY >:( ), the fortify of orisa (FUCK THIS HORSE) and among many things capable of blocking or canceling the shatter makes it VERY difficult to hit, an interesting buff would be to break the shields you hit with it or to get the oneshot you had for getting too close back (no matter how meme it sounds, it did have its uses, plus if we play well we can farm the shatter).

Earth shatter .It deals 300 damage close rage .It deals 100 damage far rage .It stuns all the players for 4 seconds. .It takes 10 percent more to charge. .It takes now 3 seconds to perform the ultimate. Fire strikes .Now it deals 150 damage . It takes 9 seconds in cool down. .the speed decreased from 40 to 30 meter per second. . It takes 2 second to use the second The new ability is ( the Fire Circle) It takes 15 second in cooldown. It damage all the enemies around the hero. . It can do 125 damage . It can caused 2 second fire affect . You can not use the charge, the ultimate and the fire strike for 3 seconds. . The damage the Rocket Hammer does decreased to 95. . It takes 1 second to do this ability. Passive . Decreased speed of the hero by 10% when the health is more than 50% .increased speed of the hero by 10% when the the hero health is less than 50%.
Tried Rein on console.. is just pure pain and is the same problem, counter swap (fuck you Ramattra) and Zen, you just get deleted. i wish i could play the hammer down guy for more time.
Rammattra is more fun to play against that Orisa. at least there is counter play that is apparent against Ram. you try to do anything against the Whorse, and you just get bullied. her whole kit counters you. I can’t even remember the time I hit a pin on her.

As a rein main that plays high masters/low gm before season 9, rein currently is just horrible. He is a high risk character with low reward. Completely stomped on by most if not all brawl tanks, and the majority of the other tanks out preform rein in respects to their specific niches. Rein needs a buff or all tanks need a nerf with a zen rework.
as a former support player, I never felt like discord was THAT strong until I became more of a tank main going into like season 4.... I literally bitch about discord almost every game... its just not fun and its a terrible mechanic
I been a rein main for a few years now and honestly i stopped with role queue. I only play open q. It is so unplayable. Like you said horse takes 0 skill and just annihilates you. I play in masters and its not overwatch its just counterwatch. Like W0W you can switch to a hero that counters me, insane. Maybe we are just supposed to play rein in diamond and lower but higher they just swap to horse and its gg. And like cloudy said, you don't switch off rein. Rather switch off overwatch.
Reinhardt is a relic of OW1's design; he's the only tank in the game who cant do ANYTHING while his barrier up, which USED to be the tradeoff for having the strongest defense in the game, but now Orisa and Sig can absorb asinine amounts of damage WHILE doing other stuff too. Rein just does not work as a solo tank, you're cutting off 20% of your teams potential damage output to hold up a way fucking weaker wall. He's too slow, he's not tanky enough, and his damage output is clunky and unreliable.
What if the debuff only worked on some characters. Like we could say that on armored characters the debuff doesn't apply and rein could fall in this category
I was thinking, discord is bad (at least for me) not because it aplify damage, but because it's too relyable because zen does not need to aim in order to discord someoune and so there is not active counterplay, only passive, so what if discord was a skill shot on a cooldown with a fixed duration (e.g. 5s) that can be blocked by shields, DM, ecc... like any other projectile in the game, so tanks could try to block it, and it would be more interasting to play against and to play with because it would be a way to amplify skill espretion for the zen player, and the fact that it would have a fixed duration would reword the good zen player that land it, because the enemy can't neutralize the effect by hiding around a corner. On a side note, 275 hp zen is too much they should nerf it to 250 or 225
what if discord orb reduced enemy's damage instead? using it against flankers would help you or a teammate survive a little longer against lets say a tracer, using it on a dps in the back will reduce their impact so that you can push, if it's on tank, the tank won't get melted instantly but will do less damage so it could discourage them from going all in with their ultimate, of course keep the cooldown before reapplying discord again, i played a fair amount of zen before this season and i found that mechanic interesting
I'm a Zen main and I 100% agree with the call for discord nerfs. With the DPS debuff and the larger hitboxes, everything is hitting the tank all at once and it's not fair at all. They need to at least lower the boost percentage on tanks. Try 15% and see what happens
Not to mention the increased hitboxes making it virtually impossible to miss a tank meaning you are taking more consistent damage every round. I've had to swap Winston Sigma every single game. Rein isn't the only one feeling this, Hog is sooo weak now. his take a breather heals for 100 less if you are being shot by a dps not to mention Discord orb.
we don't need 6v6 we just need competent devs. i am absolutely positive they do not play their game nor understand it beyond the casual level. they need people outside their perspective to cross reference with. they keep trying to do things the blizzard way and although doing things the blizzard way did result in season 9 which is admittedly one of their best patches, it also results in terrible balance and random spurts of incompetence.

@@ziggy2metalx720 it's a bit ridiculous to ask me to fix the game in the comment section. obviously it's a complex issue. also, the community needs to let go of the overwatch 1 nostalgia. overwatch 1 wasn't even better in terms of balance, just different. it's literally just preference. the only time overwatch 1 was close to balanced was the very end of its lifespan before they ruined it. overwatch 2 is suffering the same pains as overwatch 1, just in different forms. and just like overwatch 1, it can reach the state that overwatch 1 managed to reach if they do the same things they did last time.. which (crazy i know), was LISTENING TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND TAKING FEEDBACK. edit: grammar
@@ziggy2metalx720 except overwatch 1 was never balanced. people just loved the game. overwatch 2 also has only been out for a year or so, while ow 1 has way more time and balance patches and even then it wasn't ever balanced. they only got close after doing the obvious choice which is listening to your players. they're making the same mistakes again but history has already given them the answer.
great video. one thing i would change is the constant depressing piano on just the right volume so that you can't ignore it in the background. it made me clinically insane, and the video unwatchable.
Rein needs buffs, not reworks. Last thing I want to see is the devs give this man a trap or a bigger shield for "teamplay". As a Rein player, I want to see these changes, one if not all is good (with some random bonuses because why not) 1) Hammer- Swing speed increase or decrease knockback, preferably knockback (Bonus -N/A) 2) Firestrike - 125 baseline. That's it. Also, like Ram, PENETRATE LW'S PETAL! THAT WAS SUCH A DUMB BUFF FOR HIM! (Bonus - Firestrike puts people on fire. Status ailments may be an interesting way to add CC without actual CC abilities) 3) Charge - Maybe a mini fortify, but I do like the instant kill potential in exchange for exposure. So I don't know... (Bonus - shield can be deployed while charging in) 4) Shield - Reduce movement penalty when shield is deployed. And while I'd prefer not to, maybe the shield healthily needs increasing as well. (Bonus - have it a meter like Dva, and have it leave a firewall based on meter usage) 5) Shatter - 3 second stun. (Bonus - 300 DPS if bonked) 6) Hero Itself - Increase movement speed (Bonus - Change health to 225 health and 325 armor)
REMOVE REINS SHIELD WALK MOVEMENT PENALTY. Every other tank can mitigate damage while simultaneously either moving, shooting, healing, or all of the above. Why does rein get penalized for mitigating damage? Either that or go back to 6v6 and nerf tanks and supports
the issue isn't zenyatta's discord orb per say, but more the fact that the debuffs stack, like as long as the 20% passive and the orb stack to create a 50% debuff, nearly no tank will be able to do anything. like either have the 20% debuff or the zen orb be active, not both, thats why discord orb is so good, cuz it stacks with the debuff. blizzard are literally the only dev team that are able to punish the weakest role in the game by far, because the supports are busted.
As a Hog player, I feel a lot of what you're saying as well on him. Half the time I am just sitting behind walls sucking heal juice. I'm not even sure the now 50% damage negation on him while doing Take a Breather is enough with the 20% healing debuff.
Bring back 1) 3 second shatter 2) 125 dmg Firestrikes 3) Multi- pin 4) Shatter damage radius. 5) If shattering from a fall/ jump shatter, the radius is expanded.
I think that for the Zen he can be reworked his orb to be activated only if you shoot your orb and activate his orb for a long time or just make his orb be 15% on tank and 30% on other roles
The season 9 changes were brought in to take power away from supports and healing in general but ironically it has made some supports more powerful. Good job blizzard!
I want them to give Rein's hammer the same treatment they gave for Winston by letting it pierce armor. For most tanks, Reinhardt swinging on them doesn't feel threatening enough for the risk that Rein takes for getting that close. Also let his hammer swing through javelin spin. Orisa should not be bullying Reinhardt in melee range.
Littarly tried playing rein in oasis gardens. I kept swinging my hammer over and over, even shattered two people yet no one fcking died except for when I pinned the soldier against a wall, makes me think the only thing capable of killing anyone anymore are on shot moves and rein has one of the worst.

Its easy, discord orb can increase damage recieve the closer you are to zen. You are a tracer diving zen? 40% damage taken, you are a Reinhardt a mile and a half away? You get 10% damaged increase
Well heres my take for a Reinhardt passive. [Honor and Glory] The more teammates near you the tankier (starting from 4% dmg reduction with 1 teammate up to 20% dmg reduction with everyone) and stronger (5% dmg increase with 1 teammate up to 25% with everyone) you get. While alone, Reinhardt will get a small speed boost if he hasnt been damaged for 3 seconds. Well this is my take but maybe someone might give it a bit of a tweak.

i have been one tricking rein in masters the last few days, and kept getting reported. They kept saying I was throwing because I wouldnt swap off rein. It got so bad that my account got banned due to the amount of reports. This season is so bad fo rein that just picking him can get you banned.
Love your vids! Would love to hear your rework ideas for zen. I have my own lmk your thoughts. Zen rework idea: Orb of harmony - launch an orb at an ally to heal. Allies with harmony orb will receive a small amount of shared healing from an enemy affected by discord orb is being healed. Orb of discord - launch this orb at an enemy to decrease their damage. Maybe have 2 charges so it’ll increase the healing on your ally Also put kick on a cool down or ramp up like how Bap’s jump is
people will complain about this more. reducing enemy damage is super unfun. my rework idea is just change discord orb to zarya bubble, make its vfx look like trans and call it a day. however this introduces bubble stacking issue. for this rework to work, they need to also rework zarya. but zarya's bubble ability would work so perfect with Zen. It's just right for him due to his positioning/playstyle.
ok so im gonna preface this by saying i dont play rein but my best friend was a diehard until 5v5, i main genji and orisa, im mostly masters but peaked gm5 on tank and gm3 on dps. the biggest issue i think is still moving at a reduced speed when he holds his shield. Let him move at 100% base speed when he holds his shield. since hes the only tank and he needs to close the distance on his own and has to choose between defense and offense unlike every tank in the game. its why sigma is so damn good no matter how many times they nerf him. this means reinhardts only synergy now is lucio. if you dont have a lucio youre boned more often than not into decent elos. It would also fit the hero fantasy, this big wall closing in on you working its way towards you until its right in your face. it would give the enemy tank less time to dump their damage into him and he can have more shield health when hes finally dueling them.
I also agree Reinhardt is not due a big buff, but rather some quality of life changes. He can initiate a fight well and create a lot of space efficiently, but he lacks resources to actually engage in combat and maintain the space for long enough. Now I’m all for the small windows of opportunity to rush to make him have a higher skill ceiling, it’s just that his kit is a bit outdated as a more traditional hero that does less things to a better degree. It feels that he gets punished just for dropping the shield; pin is far too inconsistent for how high risk it is, his firestrike needs to be 125 (though I understand the hesitation to change literally everything for season 9 with how drastic it was), he has no damage mitigation AT ALL outside of his shield and only got “buffed” flat hp as opposed to armour. Not to mention, his earthshatter is too short to go for an ambitious big slam, but hard to use minimally such as securing a singular target kill as abilities such as cleanse exist. I feel his passive can be improved to give him an edge at close quarters, something similar to JQ imo, in my head it just makes sense that he has some ‘honour’ passive where he maybe gains some buff if his shield is destroyed heavily and/or if he is very close to a target but that’s just a shot in the dark. Some of his matchups make zero sense, Orisa javelin spin should not stop charge… the whole point was that fortify did this in the animated short. Orisa should also take headshot damage with fortify and just adjust her head hitbox to be a bit smaller maybe. I also am all for it if “rat rein” is the only way to play him as he is one of the best at just playing the objective and forcing those close range fights contesting the payload or capture point etc. I think by the next hot fix / mid season patch or whatever things should settle down a little, hopefully tanks across the board get their stats rightfully adjusted as they were (seemingly intentionally) left out of the season 9 changes and if we see any Orisa or zen changes hopefully rat rein can return at minimum.
The DPS passive is the main issue in my opinion. It’s also making playing any support that’s not zen/lucio and MAYBE bap absolutely miserable. Because healing is just bad.
Ideas how to buff rein: 4s dash cooldown when getting a kill with it Give him 3rd firestrike (cause it deals no damage now) Make his ult deal 100-150 damage Buff movement speed while shielding 😮
You are correct your butt when it comes to open queue the solution is actually pairing up Reinhardt to a Mauga/Orisa since your main tank will actually get the debuff instead of yourself remember this was the norm back in the day.
I think the 10% discord orb dmg on tanks is a fair way of handling it without gutting zen. Also i think it's time to see rein with a 2 second pin cooldown and also 6 firestrikes that do 150 dmg each
Not a tank player, but when i play tank I love playing Rein and it's sad to see such a fun cheracter reduced to this. I hope when they apperently are reworking Reaper and Rein they make Rein actually playable again.
I'm in plat and I'm a rein main but it's like you say you can't engage you can't take space you can't hang back you do no damage do distant enemies its all fucked up tried him in about 10-15 games and had to swap off every game
We rein players rly need to turn into the mercy mafia I'm a Tank player, a Rein main and the last 2 3 seasons I haven't rly touched tank cuz it's just not fun Rein specifically is just ahh straight up doodoo he got nerfed with every patch and every new hero put into the game (like the LW buff for his flower that projs can't go thru it it's a Rein nerf) Rein is the worst tank
People casually walking out of hammer range, no ability to chase, pin seems unreliable in the new patch, I keep booping people that should definitely get bearhugged into a wall, shield seems like it only has 300 hp these days it breaks so dang fast, firestrike isn't even useful anymore since it can't double hit kill basically anyone its just shatter generation now, and shatter essentially got hard nerfed because it does little damage and no longer lasts long enough to deal with the gigachad health pools, so essentially you are a poorly constructed wall made of playdoh that is reliant almost entirely on your team to actually secure kills now unless someone makes multiple mistakes and gets stuck in hammer range at 10 hp.
Players of other heroes, especially tanks, are now experiencing the same problems that Roadhog players have experienced many times and are still experiencing. Some heroes, like Orisa, are pointlessly baffed, while other heroes end up in unplayable situations. However, in the current situation, even Orisa's buffs that should not exist are useless. You may hate Roadhog or love Orisa and Reinhardth, but a game developer has to make they own heroes equally viable and playable in the game they creates and manages, and OW Team hasn't done this for EIGHT LONG YEARS and they doesn't want to do it, can't manage to do it, and doesn't even have the slightest idea how to do it. Overwatch is currently in the most unbalanced and unfair state in its history.
I play both rein and zen, and tasted the both sides, unfortunately. I think that discord is absolutely essential for zen’s survivability, he’d be in very bad position without it. So here’s my plan for zen discord rework: make it apply some kind of debuff on zen himself. Like if he’s applying discord on someone, he also starts receiving more damage from the player he’s discording. Because it’s kinda not very buddhistic to throw gigantic metal balls into someone, and not having karmic consequences.
I’m an avid overwatch player for years. I play with a disability, Rein is the only character I can play but I practiced so much I even hit masters. Now I can’t play thanks to counterwatch why blizzard
minutes into the match playing as rein *kills the enemy tank once... switch to horse *kills the dps once... switch to bastion/reaper/sombra *kills the support once... switch to ana zen
The real question is "who wants discord orb in the game?". I'm not a tank player, but discord orb is objectively poorly designed, nobody think it's a skillfull ability; it isn't even fun to use, you just press a button. I think if Blizzard removes Discord Orb, nobody would complain. Obviously they would need to give zen another cool ability.
Rein used to be THE tank. The cream of the crop of tanks. Now... he's been reduced to nothing. Playing any tank feels like torture now. Discord orb, soldier or tracer, just melts anything in it's path. Orisa bullies pretty much every other tank. Yeah thats her job but its miserable to play against.

I was wondering about if my low rank strats on rein can possibly be applied to high rank, so just hear me out:
Since the fun version (aka walk up while flashing shield/shieldhopping forward and using cover to dominate space to eventually brawl/rush) is not exactly working because of certain heros... I have been playing in a manner where I hold corners/natural cover and eventually back away (while flashing shield/shieldhopping backward) until DPS gets at least 2 picks in a single battle because otherwise Rein is forced to be at the mercy of Support/DPS to stall until it occurs. If the 2 picks occur, then Rein can approach with Charge and start the counterattack (fun part)
That is what I've been doing in my rein games and it has been working. The problem is when the enemy team decides to target you with mei, zen, orisa, and a pocketed bastion and synergistically push in on you all the way to spawn not letting up. Luckily that has only happened to me a couple times, mainly when they get annoyed at my rein not dying. The swap to sombra happens when I outplay the bastion in the comp I just mentioned.
I hope they help rein because he desperately needs help this season. Flats brought up the idea of the tank passive applying to all debuffs against tanks (30 percent resistance against discord, anti-nade, cc, and giving others ult charge. I think that as the new tank passive could work to fix tanks as long as the devs balance the stronger tanks when implementing this imo.@@nm3k511

Tanks should universally be less susceptible to enemy abilities effects.
They have boop reduction and lower anti time, just blanket it to most abilities. Less impacted by DPS passive, less impacted by discord orb, etc

I still think there should be two tank roles in addition to whatever they need to do to zen because the tank counter meta that has sorta formed is horrible for the tank experience and two tanks are harder to outright counter than one.
I seen Rein work and even made Rein work myself... Just trying to play the fun way is not possible this patch. Most of the time Rein is forced to stall and eventually back away until either a Shatter is available to use at the right moment or be at the mercy of support/dps to have outlast the fight until the DPS gets at least 2 picks.
Rein is only playable in quickplay and below masters. I started masters 2 this season, lost almost every game and deranked to diamond. Then won every game in diamond and climbed back to M5

Encourages players to go for squishys and not bully the tank constantly
The devs should’ve seen the positive changes that occurred from doing this to sleep and applied it to every other cc/debuff in the game.
If the value is the same across the board, then people are ALWAYS going to default to applying those effects to the tank in this 1/2/2 format.

I love the S9 changes as well, but the long-standing problem of Blizzard being madly in love with Orisa is holding the game back. Buff fire strike to 125 damage, nerf/rework discord orb so it only buffs Zen's own damage, and nerf Orisa gold so it only prevents CC and crit damage. Shouldn't give damage reduction.
I'd make an amendment to the Zen change, and let whoever he has a harmony orb attached to also get the bonus damage. If only Zen can use it then it's basically a useless ability, no way to support your team and you might as well just buff Zen's damage to 60.
It makes perfect sense that a small omnic floating in the air can kick a hunk of metal armor few feets away just as it makes perfect sense that Mauga cannot be counter charged
The only thing I hate about this patch is the dps passive is annoying cause now you aren’t punished for shooting the tank and now you can just perma de buff the tank 24/7 that passive is creative but they need to tweak it a lil bit

Man, as a rien main since OW1, I left when Lifeweaver came out. I loved being in frontlines, leading my team to victory. Keeping track of cooldowns and calling the shots like a leader was awesome to me. But now, his character is a literal joke now. Shatter doesn't even matter anymore unless you somehow get all 5. You gotta watch out for Bap, Kiriko, Lifeweaver, Orisa spear, Shields, etc. You can completely outplay the other tank in mind games and get punished for it. He's so easily counterable, and other tanks just mop the floor with him.Charge can be canceled, nullified, etc. Firestrike is easily avoidable unless you are in their head. You can barely swing at all or you might die instantly if they got a Zen or not. It's so different compared to season 1 or OW 1 in general. And comparing that new tank to Rien. Riens damage output is so BAD. The gigachad of tanks reduced to a laughing stock. Idk how you guys do it. But carry on my fellow rien mains. Honor and Glory, my friends. Because I'm done.

From my point of view (as a Rein main), Rein has 4 fundamental problems
1.The Firestrike feels weaker, the buffs to everyone's HP don't help it, I know that the hitbox is bigger, but it still feels strange (in the third point I propose 2 changes for the firestrike).
2. Comparing the Life of the other Tanks (HP/Armor/shields), Rein feels more basic and very simple, it does not have many benefits in comparison (yes the shield will have a lot of life compared to that of other tanks, but it is not very versatile, there are also characters that melt shields, such as mauga, hog, bastion, etc.).
3.He lacks his own Passive Skill, and if we take the above into account, it means that Rein cannot provide much more than his shield and his area damage at short (but very short) distances, I think that a passive skill would be useful for him. Just from him it would be good (as to give examples, the shield regenerates
instantly when you have less than 30% of your total health or the firestrike recharges the shield's health by 5% for each opponent hit, or 5% speed for each enemy hit by the firestrike, IDK blizzard usually has better ideas, I think that they will perfectly find one that doesn't BREAK Rein but that does make him playable against other characters).
4. The shatter doesn't feel so good, if the suzu exists (FUCK THIS ABILITY >:( ), the fortify of orisa (FUCK THIS HORSE) and among many things capable of blocking or canceling the shatter makes it VERY difficult to hit, an interesting buff would be to break the shields you hit with it or to get the oneshot you had for getting too close back (no matter how meme it sounds, it did have its uses, plus if we play well we can farm the shatter).
Firestrike hitbox was unchanged sadly, it’s still the same as old patch. It is mentioned in the season 9 patch notes for reference.

Tried Rein on console.. is just pure pain and is the same problem, counter swap (fuck you Ramattra) and Zen, you just get deleted. i wish i could play the hammer down guy for more time.
Rammattra is more fun to play against that Orisa. at least there is counter play that is apparent against Ram.

As a rein main that plays high masters/low gm before season 9, rein currently is just horrible. He is a high risk character with low reward. Completely stomped on by most if not all brawl tanks, and the majority of the other tanks out preform rein in respects to their specific niches. Rein needs a buff or all tanks need a nerf with a zen rework.

as a former support player, I never felt like discord was THAT strong until I became more of a tank main going into like season 4.... I literally bitch about discord almost every game... its just not fun and its a terrible mechanic
I been a rein main for a few years now and honestly i stopped with role queue. I only play open q. It is so unplayable. Like you said horse takes 0 skill and just annihilates you. I play in masters and its not overwatch its just counterwatch. Like W0W you can switch to a hero that counters me, insane.
Maybe we are just supposed to play rein in diamond and lower but higher they just swap to horse and its gg.

Reinhardt is a relic of OW1's design; he's the only tank in the game who cant do ANYTHING while his barrier up, which USED to be the tradeoff for having the strongest defense in the game, but now Orisa and Sig can absorb asinine amounts of damage WHILE doing other stuff too. Rein just does not work as a solo tank, you're cutting off 20% of your teams potential damage output to hold up a way fucking weaker wall. He's too slow, he's not tanky enough, and his damage output is clunky and unreliable.
What if the debuff only worked on some characters. Like we could say that on armored characters the debuff doesn't apply and rein could fall in this category
I was thinking, discord is bad (at least for me) not because it aplify damage, but because it's too relyable because zen does not need to aim in order to discord someoune and so there is not active counterplay, only passive, so what if discord was a skill shot on a cooldown with a fixed duration (e.g. 5s) that can be blocked by shields, DM, ecc... like any other projectile in the game, so tanks could try to block it, and it would be more interasting to play against and to play with because it would be a way to amplify skill espretion for the zen player, and the fact that it would have a fixed duration would reword the good zen player that land it, because the enemy can't neutralize the effect by hiding around a corner.
On a side note, 275 hp zen is too much they should nerf it to 250 or 225
shield should be able to los discord. it would be the best decision they could make other than overnerf zen or just remove him from the game
what if discord orb reduced enemy's damage instead? using it against flankers would help you or a teammate survive a little longer against lets say a tracer, using it on a dps in the back will reduce their impact so that you can push, if it's on tank, the tank won't get melted instantly but will do less damage so it could discourage them from going all in with their ultimate, of course keep the cooldown before reapplying discord again, i played a fair amount of zen before this season and i found that mechanic interesting
I'm a Zen main and I 100% agree with the call for discord nerfs. With the DPS debuff and the larger hitboxes, everything is hitting the tank all at once and it's not fair at all. They need to at least lower the boost percentage on tanks. Try 15% and see what happens

Not to mention the increased hitboxes making it virtually impossible to miss a tank meaning you are taking more consistent damage every round. I've had to swap Winston Sigma every single game. Rein isn't the only one feeling this, Hog is sooo weak now. his take a breather heals for 100 less if you are being shot by a dps not to mention Discord orb.
i had a 65% win percentage with rein last season with over 100+ games played. I have a 20% win rate with him now lol
Tank players seriously need to start pressuring for 6v6 to come back desperately. It's the only thing that would help atp.
we don't need 6v6 we just need competent devs. i am absolutely positive they do not play their game nor understand it beyond the casual level. they need people outside their perspective to cross reference with. they keep trying to do things the blizzard way and although doing things the blizzard way did result in season 9 which is admittedly one of their best patches, it also results in terrible balance and random spurts of incompetence.

@@ziggy2metalx720 it's a bit ridiculous to ask me to fix the game in the comment section. obviously it's a complex issue. also, the community needs to let go of the overwatch 1 nostalgia. overwatch 1 wasn't even better in terms of balance, just different. it's literally just preference. the only time overwatch 1 was close to balanced was the very end of its lifespan before they ruined it. overwatch 2 is suffering the same pains as overwatch 1, just in different forms. and just like overwatch 1, it can reach the state that overwatch 1 managed to reach if they do the same things they did last time.. which (crazy i know), was LISTENING TO THEIR COMMUNITY AND TAKING FEEDBACK.

Rein needs buffs, not reworks. Last thing I want to see is the devs give this man a trap or a bigger shield for "teamplay".
As a Rein player, I want to see these changes, one if not all is good (with some random bonuses because why not)
1) Hammer- Swing speed increase or decrease knockback, preferably knockback
(Bonus -N/A)
2) Firestrike - 125 baseline. That's it. Also, like Ram, PENETRATE LW'S PETAL! THAT WAS SUCH A DUMB BUFF FOR HIM!
(Bonus - Firestrike puts people on fire. Status ailments may be an interesting way to add CC without actual CC abilities)
3) Charge - Maybe a mini fortify, but I do like the instant kill potential in exchange for exposure. So I don't know...
(Bonus - shield can be deployed while charging in)
4) Shield - Reduce movement penalty when shield is deployed. And while I'd prefer not to, maybe the shield healthily needs increasing as well.
(Bonus - have it a meter like Dva, and have it leave a firewall based on meter usage)
5) Shatter - 3 second stun.
(Bonus - 300 DPS if bonked)
6) Hero Itself - Increase movement speed
(Bonus - Change health to 225 health and 325 armor)
REMOVE REINS SHIELD WALK MOVEMENT PENALTY. Every other tank can mitigate damage while simultaneously either moving, shooting, healing, or all of the above. Why does rein get penalized for mitigating damage? Either that or go back to 6v6 and nerf tanks and supports

the issue isn't zenyatta's discord orb per say, but more the fact that the debuffs stack, like as long as the 20% passive and the orb stack to create a 50% debuff, nearly no tank will be able to do anything.
like either have the 20% debuff or the zen orb be active, not both, thats why discord orb is so good, cuz it stacks with the debuff.
blizzard are literally the only dev team that are able to punish the weakest role in the game by far, because the supports are busted.
As a Hog player, I feel a lot of what you're saying as well on him. Half the time I am just sitting behind walls sucking heal juice. I'm not even sure the now 50% damage negation on him while doing Take a Breather is enough with the 20% healing debuff.
Bring back
1) 3 second shatter
2) 125 dmg Firestrikes
3) Multi- pin
4) Shatter damage radius.
5) If shattering from a fall/ jump shatter, the radius is expanded.
I think that for the Zen he can be reworked his orb to be activated only if you shoot your orb and activate his orb for a long time or just make his orb be 15% on tank and 30% on other roles
The season 9 changes were brought in to take power away from supports and healing in general but ironically it has made some supports more powerful. Good job blizzard!
I want them to give Rein's hammer the same treatment they gave for Winston by letting it pierce armor. For most tanks, Reinhardt swinging on them doesn't feel threatening enough for the risk that Rein takes for getting that close. Also let his hammer swing through javelin spin. Orisa should not be bullying Reinhardt in melee range.

I kept swinging my hammer over and over, even shattered two people yet no one fcking died except for when I pinned the soldier against a wall, makes me think the only thing capable of killing anyone anymore are on shot moves and rein has one of the worst.

Its easy, discord orb can increase damage recieve the closer you are to zen. You are a tracer diving zen? 40% damage taken, you are a Reinhardt a mile and a half away? You get 10% damaged increase
My last game with Rein I remember my Moira asking why I was dying in 1.5s if I had a 1400 hp shield and she was healing. It was horrible.
Rein needs dmg reduction or some sort of speed buff. That or fix pin because as a rein main pin is so unreliable. I only use it for movement.
Well heres my take for a Reinhardt passive.
[Honor and Glory]
The more teammates near you the tankier (starting from 4% dmg reduction with 1 teammate up to 20% dmg reduction with everyone) and stronger (5% dmg increase with 1 teammate up to 25% with everyone) you get. While alone, Reinhardt will get a small speed boost if he hasnt been damaged for 3 seconds.
Well this is my take but maybe someone might give it a bit of a tweak.

i have been one tricking rein in masters the last few days, and kept getting reported. They kept saying I was throwing because I wouldnt swap off rein. It got so bad that my account got banned due to the amount of reports. This season is so bad fo rein that just picking him can get you banned.

Zen rework idea:
Orb of harmony - launch an orb at an ally to heal. Allies with harmony orb will receive a small amount of shared healing from an enemy affected by discord orb is being healed.
Orb of discord - launch this orb at an enemy to decrease their damage. Maybe have 2 charges so it’ll increase the healing on your ally
Also put kick on a cool down or ramp up like how Bap’s jump is
people will complain about this more. reducing enemy damage is super unfun. my rework idea is just change discord orb to zarya bubble, make its vfx look like trans and call it a day. however this introduces bubble stacking issue. for this rework to work, they need to also rework zarya. but zarya's bubble ability would work so perfect with Zen. It's just right for him due to his positioning/playstyle.
ok so im gonna preface this by saying i dont play rein but my best friend was a diehard until 5v5, i main genji and orisa, im mostly masters but peaked gm5 on tank and gm3 on dps.
the biggest issue i think is still moving at a reduced speed when he holds his shield. Let him move at 100% base speed when he holds his shield.
since hes the only tank and he needs to close the distance on his own and has to choose between defense and offense unlike every tank in the game. its why sigma is so damn good no matter how many times they nerf him. this means reinhardts only synergy now is lucio. if you dont have a lucio youre boned more often than not into decent elos. It would also fit the hero fantasy, this big wall closing in on you working its way towards you until its right in your face. it would give the enemy tank less time to dump their damage into him and he can have more shield health when hes finally dueling them.
I also agree Reinhardt is not due a big buff, but rather some quality of life changes. He can initiate a fight well and create a lot of space efficiently, but he lacks resources to actually engage in combat and maintain the space for long enough. Now I’m all for the small windows of opportunity to rush to make him have a higher skill ceiling, it’s just that his kit is a bit outdated as a more traditional hero that does less things to a better degree. It feels that he gets punished just for dropping the shield; pin is far too inconsistent for how high risk it is, his firestrike needs to be 125 (though I understand the hesitation to change literally everything for season 9 with how drastic it was), he has no damage mitigation AT ALL outside of his shield and only got “buffed” flat hp as opposed to armour. Not to mention, his earthshatter is too short to go for an ambitious big slam, but hard to use minimally such as securing a singular target kill as abilities such as cleanse exist. I feel his passive can be improved to give him an edge at close quarters, something similar to JQ imo, in my head it just makes sense that he has some ‘honour’ passive where he maybe gains some buff if his shield is destroyed heavily and/or if he is very close to a target but that’s just a shot in the dark. Some of his matchups make zero sense, Orisa javelin spin should not stop charge… the whole point was that fortify did this in the animated short. Orisa should also take headshot damage with fortify and just adjust her head hitbox to be a bit smaller maybe. I also am all for it if “rat rein” is the only way to play him as he is one of the best at just playing the objective and forcing those close range fights contesting the payload or capture point etc.
I think by the next hot fix / mid season patch or whatever things should settle down a little, hopefully tanks across the board get their stats rightfully adjusted as they were (seemingly intentionally) left out of the season 9 changes and if we see any Orisa or zen changes hopefully rat rein can return at minimum.
The DPS passive is the main issue in my opinion. It’s also making playing any support that’s not zen/lucio and MAYBE bap absolutely miserable. Because healing is just bad.
Give Rein his own passive called Hardened Armour or some crap that negates discord effects or something idk, and maybe more shield and movement speed?
No reason for them to not add his 2000 shield back double shield is gone. Maybe give a shield ability he’s just outdated bro it’s sad
Zen kick with discord does 75 dmg btw. That's the same as old rein swing
Ideas how to buff rein:
4s dash cooldown when getting a kill with it
Give him 3rd firestrike (cause it deals no damage now)
Make his ult deal 100-150 damage
Buff movement speed while shielding

You are correct your butt when it comes to open queue the solution is actually pairing up Reinhardt to a Mauga/Orisa since your main tank will actually get the debuff instead of yourself remember this was the norm back in the day.

I think the 10% discord orb dmg on tanks is a fair way of handling it without gutting zen. Also i think it's time to see rein with a 2 second pin cooldown and also 6 firestrikes that do 150 dmg each
Not a tank player, but when i play tank I love playing Rein and it's sad to see such a fun cheracter reduced to this. I hope when they apperently are reworking Reaper and Rein they make Rein actually playable again.

I'm in plat and I'm a rein main but it's like you say you can't engage you can't take space you can't hang back you do no damage do distant enemies its all fucked up tried him in about 10-15 games and had to swap off every game

I'm a Tank player, a Rein main and the last 2 3 seasons I haven't rly touched tank cuz it's just not fun Rein specifically is just ahh straight up doodoo he got nerfed with every patch and every new hero put into the game (like the LW buff for his flower that projs can't go thru it it's a Rein nerf)

People casually walking out of hammer range, no ability to chase, pin seems unreliable in the new patch, I keep booping people that should definitely get bearhugged into a wall, shield seems like it only has 300 hp these days it breaks so dang fast, firestrike isn't even useful anymore since it can't double hit kill basically anyone its just shatter generation now, and shatter essentially got hard nerfed because it does little damage and no longer lasts long enough to deal with the gigachad health pools, so essentially you are a poorly constructed wall made of playdoh that is reliant almost entirely on your team to actually secure kills now unless someone makes multiple mistakes and gets stuck in hammer range at 10 hp.
Players of other heroes, especially tanks, are now experiencing the same problems that Roadhog players have experienced many times and are still experiencing.
Some heroes, like Orisa, are pointlessly baffed, while other heroes end up in unplayable situations. However, in the current situation, even Orisa's buffs that should not exist are useless.
You may hate Roadhog or love Orisa and Reinhardth, but a game developer has to make they own heroes equally viable and playable in the game they creates and manages, and OW Team hasn't done this for EIGHT LONG YEARS and they doesn't want to do it, can't manage to do it, and doesn't even have the slightest idea how to do it.

I play both rein and zen, and tasted the both sides, unfortunately. I think that discord is absolutely essential for zen’s survivability, he’d be in very bad position without it. So here’s my plan for zen discord rework:
make it apply some kind of debuff on zen himself. Like if he’s applying discord on someone, he also starts receiving more damage from the player he’s discording. Because it’s kinda not very buddhistic to throw gigantic metal balls into someone, and not having karmic consequences.
i also purposefully don’t discord enemy tank, if he’s playing rein.

I’m an avid overwatch player for years. I play with a disability, Rein is the only character I can play but I practiced so much I even hit masters. Now I can’t play thanks to counterwatch why blizzard

honesty you can replace rein here with most tanks. Only enjoyment on tank is hyper mobile and selfish heros like doomfist
The real question is "who wants discord orb in the game?". I'm not a tank player, but discord orb is objectively poorly designed, nobody think it's a skillfull ability; it isn't even fun to use, you just press a button. I think if Blizzard removes Discord Orb, nobody would complain. Obviously they would need to give zen another cool ability.
Rein used to be THE tank. The cream of the crop of tanks. Now... he's been reduced to nothing. Playing any tank feels like torture now. Discord orb, soldier or tracer, just melts anything in it's path. Orisa bullies pretty much every other tank. Yeah thats her job but its miserable to play against.
So they kill zen to make rein good?
