AUGUST 21, 2014 - DREAM THEATER--Grammy-nominated progressive metal titans--have announced the release of BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL (LIVE FROM THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE), a live Blu-Ray / DVD set of the band’s one-of-a-kind performance from the Boston Opera House on March 25, 2014. Produced by the band’s own John Petrucci, filmed and directed by Pierre and François Lamoureux, and mixed and mastered by Richard Chycki, BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL (LIVE FROM THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE) is over 2 hours in length, capturing the special evening, which featured guest performances from The Berklee College of Music Orchestra and Choir. BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL (LIVE FROM THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE) arrives September 30TH.
The collection will be available in multiple configurations including Blu-Ray, a 2 DVD set, and a webstore deluxe exclusive Blu-Ray/3 CD set with poster, all currently available for pre-order via the Roadrunner Records webstore. Furthermore, Dream Theater have premiered a video of “The Looking Glass” (LIVE) taken from BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL (LIVE FROM THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE) which can be streamed on the band’s official UA-cam Channel. All pre-orders for the webstore exclusive will receive an instant download “The Looking Glass” (LIVE).
Dream Theater’s John Petrucci commented on the special event saying, “In many ways, this was a huge homecoming for the band given the history of Dream Theater’s origins and ties with Berklee. With John and I both being alumni and Mike having been a professor at the college for 10 years, we saw the opportunity to perform together with the students of Berklee as a tremendous thrill and honor. We are extremely grateful for everyone's hard work in making this special event a reality and to all who participated.” He continued, “All of the Berklee College instrumentalists and vocalists did an outstanding job that night and it was awesome to have one of its students, Eren Başbuğ orchestrate and conduct them live at the Opera House after having been a part of our latest studio release in the same capacity. Dream Theater has always had a great connection to the city of Boston and we knew that against the backdrop of the beautiful Opera House, this would end up being a historic stop on our 'Along For The Ride' world tour and an evening most definitely worth capturing on video. Beautifully filmed and directed by Pierre Lamoureux and brilliantly mixed and mastered by Richard Chycki, this is in my opinion, a major highlight in our nearly 30 year career as a band. We are eagerly anticipating its release this fall and really hope that everyone enjoys it!”
This past year DREAM THEATER earned a second Grammy nomination for “Best Metal Performance” for the single “The Enemy Inside” from their current self-titled worldwide smash album (released September 24, 2013 on Roadrunner Records). “DREAM THEATER” made a spectacular debut this past fall, topping Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” chart while simultaneously entering at #7 on the overall Billboard 200. The extraordinary chart position marked the group’s third consecutive top 10 debut, and also saw "DREAM THEATER" making top 5 chart debuts in Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, and Finland, as well as top 10 debuts in Denmark, Austria, and Norway, with career high debuts in the United Kingdom and Australia. Had a crappy day and just discovered this. LOL! I am SO frickn happy with how well recorded and filmed this is- can't wait for the Blu-ray :-).. All respect to Mike Portnoy who started it all and directed so much of DT for over 20 yrs, but now I think Mike Mangini is the best thing that could have happened to this band. Truly Awesome...

I like that you can HEAR petrucci sing, that almost doesn't happen, not even live. I like also that they fixed petrucci's solo and improved the levels on mike's set. This is going to be a hell of a blu-ray

They seem to want to showcase their incredible chops, but it'd be interesting to see if they could come up with something that would get airplay, and also demonstrate their incredible talents.

Finally a Live with a good production, for fuck sake ! it was about time, this sounds way better than the luna park dvd ! It sounds even better than the actual album ! snare drum is gorgeous, and crispy, not goofy, it is not "only about the guitar" you can actually hear loud and very warm bass ! Very pleasant to the ears !!

This sounds pretty amazing. I kind of hope Dream Theater's next album is totally different though. It would be amazing if they put out a jazz fusion album. I bet they could do amazing things with that; it would spice up their catalog AND created a bigger fan base.

I didn't see the whole Luna Park DVD, but this impressed me a lot of more than the Luna Park youtube videos I saw, the overall mix and feel seems so much better.

Every day , every year and decades , Dream Theater has achieved an extraordinary maturity. There is better phase of the band , as all stages are unique. But being without malice whatsoever, disrespectful to the band , I would say that currently Dream Theater is in its prime . Quas a mature stage than absolute.
Is the audio out of sinc for anyone else? Still a much better mix! I'm sure it'll be fine on the actual DVD. Can't wait to hear awake live!

They actually tuned down the backing track and turned up JP's vocals just like I hoped they would do. And not only that, but a gorgeous vocal harmony that I had no idea was there is suddenly revealed - listen to him singing ''gold mine'' part, that was tremendous! I'm surprised they bothered to fix anything, I don't think it's such a big deal, it's just that us fans can be too critical.
I know it's been almost 10 years but man did they look SO MUCH better in Score..... Still rock though!

I heard on my laptop with earphones and the experience was completely different, is like a microphone on the stage. When I disconnected the earphones the mix sounds wonderful.

MM is a way better performer than most of the drummers that I know, almost a one shot recorder, no mistakes, etc... But I still miss the life that brings MP to the scene.

James' vocals are still a bit too low for my tastes, but still better. :-P Now, if only the video could've been shot in a way that the highlights aren't blown out, this would be top notch. Good editing to cover up the overdub on the guitar solo too! I'll buy this one. :-)

Actually from what I've seen from videos of this tour, he isn't doing as well as the previous tour, but he's pretty good in this video, hopefully the rest of the dvd will be like this.

They should have released the SF show at the Warfield. I have seen DT play maybe a dozen times and it was by far the best performance I have ever seen by them including videos.

What an amazing performance! One of my alltime favourite Dream Theater-songs.
I didn´t realize before today that there would be a new live release, and I´m looking very much forward to it! It is my hope that this time, the live DVD would include lyrics with the subtitles. I became a DT-fan around 2004 as a 14-year old boy and I have spent hundreds of hours watching the different live show-realeases. As english isn ́t my mother tongue, I always enjoyed having the lyrics on the bottom of the screen while watching the band perform. So I found it a bit sad that song lyrics was not included on Score and Live in New Yourk. Please Dream Theater and Roadrunner records, bring back lyrics in "Breaking the fourth wall".
What do you other guys think? Should it be included or is it just unnecessary luxury?
