*I just spoke with DJI and they ensured that the camera records at 10 bit even in full FOV mode. It sounds like others who commented about their video stats also confirmed this. So glad to hear because that would have been a huge let down having to record at 55 degree FOV all the time.*
Thank you for clarifying, Justin. I am going to pin your comment to the top for everyone to see! Great detective work.
Well that’s really good news but what is the HQ part that requires the crop then? I think the next logical step is to find out what’s actually happening in HQ mode then? I mean, it’s not cropping in for zero reason so I think a lot of us who are on the fence would love to know the actual reason. If it’s just some sort of added processing to make the 10 bit even better then great. But whatever that added processing is we would like to know from a logistical standpoint because that would be even more awesome, right?
Fly Guy If I understand correctly Full FOV scales the video down to 4k from 5k which doesn't give as sharp of an image when compared to the HQ mode which just crops a native 4k portion from the M2P oversize sensor.
Such a relief, thanks Justin! I think they used “HQ” to clarify that it is not an upscaled image, but real 4K crop of the sensor. Also don’t quite get how full FOV could be less sharp - oversampling makes image sharper usually. May be shots were a bit out of focus, have to test that out next week when my M2P arrives!
Justin Cuellar As per DJI manual page 38. HQ mode is croped which is 55° and records video in better quality(thus they name it HQ) then full FOV 75°. FOV is downsample from 5.5K to 4K.
but its lame bcs in HQ sensor is 1.6X cropped and is just a little big than M2Z sensor.
people are buying M2P for 1" sensor but if they want better quality in 4K then thy have to use 1.6X cropped sensor and use HQ mode...really?
also they could have easily implemented smooth digital zoom like M2Z in spite of these all these modes.
It would be nice if you do the same experiment at night. So we can tell if there is any difference with the lowlight performance.
I've been waiting for a night review and that would make my decision
@@joelindooo I'm a little late to the game but if you still want to see this, I'd make that video for you and give test files.
@@LaneMcCall Did u ever make that? I'd like to see it.
Nice explanation! My first drone is arriving today so I can finally have drone footage in the daily vlogs!
Great explanation of the 2 different options. Once again Billy, thanks for your tutorials. They’re always a big help.
4K HQ mode looked sharper! Thanks for the comparison.
Fantastic footage & explanation Billy, both pro images are stunning to be honest.. look forward to more vlogs on getting the most out of these amazing drones 🤞
Thanks for this Billy. I was wondering this today on my first flight!
I downloaded the files and cropped the HQ video to about 115% and you get equal parallax effect to that of the Mavic 2 Zoom. Quality is also indistinguishable from what I can see.
From my experience the FOV 4K looks better than HQ 4K! HQ just looks to zoomed in a slight blurred
Amazing image quality from both the zoom and the pro versions. Thank you Billy. :-)
Love the train shot. Very nicely done
Nice video Kyle. I really appreciate you and your good knowledge of drones. I really appreciate you Sir. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video with us. Please keep those good videos coming. ✌️✌️✌️✌️💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👨✈️👨✈️👨✈️🚁. You are an amazing pilot. Thanks for all you do and please keep flying.
Thank you!
Billy i also have both but I'm experiencing some issues with the cache files to my phone. It's breaking them up into a bunch of videos and also there are some missing on the phone only! (There all there on the sd card) I realize you edit and probably don't care about this but can you tell me if your videos are being cached as one file to your phone. I'm using Android note 8. It's also doing it on the iPad mini 4 so it may just be a bug. A bug that kills my channel though. At least with these 2 drones. Lol. All my other drones are caching one big file to my phone. ie: a 20 min video in one file with audio that i can then upload to UA-cam. (Works on the p4p, Mavic pro, mavic air just fine so it's not my phone) thx for any help. Dji does sell the fact that you can now upload 1080 video to social media so??? I'll take 780p in one file at this point. Ugh. Please check it on yours. Just sit it on the counter and hit record. Wait 15 to 20 min and see what you get cached to your device. I would really really appreciate it! May also make a good video or a heads up to people! A lot of hobbies like myself don't do the whole edit thing and love this feature. Straight to social media that is. Thx for any help. If you need my email address to discuss please let me know. Thx
Got it... thanks for the quick and easy explanation. Also at 3:10 ... literally holding ~$3k of Mavics 😱
but it looks like he can't afford any cutlery ore a single Cup =/
Thanks Billy! This really helps me out!
I bought Mavic 2 pro and I am reading the Manual just for you~
thank you very much.very useful your sample file for my editing testing.thank you
Great video, thanks a lot for posting. A minor correction though: around 3:55 you imply that no other drone can achieve the parallax effect like the Mavic 2 Zoom when zoomed in all the way, but you can do exactly that with the Inspire 2 and the 50mm lens for example (and resulting footage being considerably better quality-wise). Yes it's a much more expensive drone than the Mavic 2 Zoom, but just saying.
nice touch on the google drive link, I appreciate that, Thank you
I suspect you should be comparing the quality at the edges of the image. The HQ mode probably crops away optical aberrations that appear in the corners of the full view.
HQ would be sharper on the edge of the frame since you’re cropping in the sensor and only using the center portion of the lens. IQ on all lenses fall off on towards the edge.
Thank you for uploading the files! I really appreciate that!
thank you so much for this! I have been reviewing Mavic 2 Pro raw footage from others and it always seemed surprisingly soft. Now, im addicted to Image quality and love to colograde some shots for hours, so i guess im not the average joe. But i was so happy to immidiately be able (even after yt-compression!) to spot the sharpnes desired of that good camera when you showed hq mode. Im quite sure all my downloaded samples are in wide. Not to mention the little bit more cinematic style it posesses.... now im excitet for this one! I Guess it skips/bins quite a few of those 5.5k Pixels in Order to save battery or bec. of CPU power...
S.H. they skip pixels bcs to shoot 4K we req only 8MP and it is having 20MP.
processor is not able to process all those 20MP and make 5.5K video and downgrade to 4K(which is best option) so either it has to bin the pixels or crop the sensor.
Very good video. Thanks mate
Nice comparison, well done!!!
The reason that FOV doesnt look as detailed as the HQ is that DJI downsamples from 5.5k to 4k by 'pixel binning' which ios effectively throwing away the spare pixels. If DJI had downsampled by 'supersampling' in other words using all 5.5k of pixels, the image would actually have 'more detail' than HQ. Unfortunately it requires a lot more image processing power.
Does phantom 4 pro supersample because it is sharper than the mavic 2 pro?
Rob Collins True, thats how sony A7R2 records 4K video without pixel binning.
bushgreen we need to check that. DJI doesnt disclose all these info normally. let know if u find.
but i think yes, P4P gives much better quality than M2P. and it camera is bigger, battery is bigger thats why chances are there that they have implemented bigger and better image processor in camera of P4P.
@@arpitjain4025 even the mavic 2 zoom's camera is sharper than the 2 pro and has better colors so it must be supersampling when recording 4k aswell because it has a 12mp camera so it can do the supersampling to 4k because it needs less processing compared to the m2p which has 20mp camera.
bushgreen yes thats quite possible because for 4K we just required 8MP M2Z is having 12MP and M2P is having 20MP so technically 12MP camera will perform better just sensor is small but any how HQ mode on M2P is 1.6X cropped so sensor area is not much diff in M2P to M2Z.
Great comparison, was stoked to see that zoom footage. i am impressed. it looked better to me in this comparison then the pro. we gotta get these out with us this winter and do some snow videos when we meet up!
Full FOV 4K mode for giant and wide landscapes .. and 4K HQ for everything else .. meets my needs
Does the 10-bit work in Full FOV and HQ?
It does, there was some misinformation in the manual but 10 bit is being recorded and reported in both FOV and HQ.
Great video man. Where did you purchase yours? And were you using any ND filters?
My video in 4k full fov is so blur..
Great informative video , you are best Sweden
Let me tell you, that shot of the train with the Mavic 2 Zoom its' awsome. Thanks!
Hi Billy !!! what camera settings do you prefer ? sharp - con -Sat .you add any sharpness in Post Process ?
Best Regards
still going with this? it is optical resolution from camera that is bad from start, not some crazy processing/ software. that should be known by now.
Can you compare how big the file size is shooting at full res on the mavic 2 compared to the original mavic pro.
Great video bro
Bill, I turn to you one of my main teachers. There seems to be a lot of misinformation and I've been squabbling with some pros trying to get some answers. I'll spare you the details but the simple question is. If you use H265 in "NORMAL" color profile is it 10 bit? I say no and some of the pro youtubers like yourself seem to think it is. I'm searched the web and you tube for an hour with no real answers. I suppose I will try and call DJI but I wonder if the tech people would know.. If you don't know I give up. Thanks for al the lessons and all you do for us.
Do you edit in final cut? If so, how do you manage the H265 files from the mavic 2 pro in final cut?
I’m having trouble with final cut not recognizing anything shot in h265, it only finds the h264 files. This is a problem because I can’t seem to find and log color profiles when I select h264 on the Mavic 2 pro.
Thanks for your tips, cool vids.
My Finalcut 10.4.2 can play and edit h256 4K 10 bit DLOG-M CINE with LUT applied on MBP 15" 2013 SSD
I think it is 28mm Eqv in FOV 4K while HQ 4K is more like 40mm Eqv. I hope they come out with more gimbal / lens options for the Mavic 2 in the coming months. I still cannot get over how quiet this drone is. They should have called it the Stealth.
More gimbals & lenses I’m totally agree with that.
It really is quiet. I don’t get it lol
The camera is not changable they cannot do that
HI...Billy..but tell me honestly..is it worth it to replace phantom 4 pro?is the camera better then phantom???please let me know soon...thx.Chris
When you switch to HQ mode it actually turn into a 40mm lens or is it just the crop factor? I mean.. does it actually compress the backgroud as if it was a 40mm lens compared to a 24mm lens?
thanks billy =) u rock !!
Hello, we are a team from japan call “Drone-jo plus” which is a team that created by only woman who loves Drone.
We like this beautiful mavic2 video!
We also think that it is a wonderful drone work!
We'd love to go to this place We subscribed your channel as well. Hope we can see more!
top video!
How many degrees of view does each Drone have . The Zoom vrs the M2Pro.
Billy, hi, I'm a subscriber, just got a MP2 and want to ask if you or anyone who owns a MP2 can relate to this "Issue"...
When folding the back wings, do the tips (where you attach the propellors) rub/scrape slightly against the body of the drone?
Mine does and I'm worried this isn't normal.
I like the wider FOV so much I would be willing to sacrifice image quality. Of course I could always fly the the drone further away if I was in HQ to achieve a wider FOV. And you mentioned compression, and made a good point, people sharing their video's on UA-cam, Vimeo, Facebook and other social media platforms will most likely never see the difference in quality between these shooting formats. Most of the advanced photo quality features of this new camera can really only be seen by the creator at home watching it on his 27inch 4k monitor. Or unless you load the video on a SSD drive and give it to someone who also has a 4k monitor, and even than there will some compression.
Are you from philly?
Billy will you be testing ND filters in a future video?
Also that means if you crop the 3840 x 2160 in 15% from hq you will get the Mavic zooms 48mm without loosing hardly any resolution
That's what I was thinking! Then you get the best of both :)
Luke Maximo Bell I know right! It's awesome! I mainly want the pro for the aperture control it allows you to use less Nd filters and have to change them less
Yes, my thoughts exactly!
I was torn between MAVIC PRO 2 and ZOOM because that parallax on the ZOOM is SO SEXY...
But I think it can be at least 50%-70% achieved on the HQ FOV mode on the PRO 2, which makes me happy.
Anyone else have some examples that it works just as well (or close to) the ZOOM effect?
Thanks for the video ! I was wondering a long time between the pro or the zoon and I'm gonna with the zoom since it's so much more versatile
did u land up sticking with the Zoom? how do you like it?
personally even though im recording 4k i edit my videos to 1080p as file sizes are drastically reduced and most people dont watch 4k anyways
I upload in 4K to future proof my videos as it will one day become the standard.
@@billykyle very true, something i will no doubt swap too. How do you store all your footage? do you keep all the original video videos?
Good job! :)
interesting what are the ff focal length equivalents on those two modes, HQ vs FOV, if anyone knows.
Wondering if all this time later you still feel HQ gives a better image quality?
That's excellent. I'm going to download. Great idea. Just got my pro 2 and I'm figuring it all out. I'll try both views a lot over the next few days.
Your cinematography and editing is getting better aswell.
The 2x zoom is optical right?
Hate to say this but my P4 pro vids and jpgs are sharper, but will still buy Mavic2 Pro mainly for the portability.
The latest update on the Mavic 2 pro gives a little zoom bar on screen from macro shots to infinity. It's just a tiny zoom but ok.
Sup Billy! I'm curious even though the Pro model doesn't have optical zoom does it have the digital zoom like the original Mavic had by using the D-pad button? Thanks Bro!
excellent video, thank you!
HI, a question about MV2Pro and 10bit DLOG-M color profile ...is this profile only avalaible in 4K mode or is it also avalaible in FullHD mode ? In post using Premiere PRO CC how is it usable for color grading ?
Thanks for explanations :)
Crap, I forgot....Is the only work with an iphone/droid, and an iPad mini? I suppose there is no way to attach a full size iPad. Perhaps the Crystalsky ?!?!?
I have the 7.8Crystal Sky with the Pro and Zoom . . it does work but there are issues with installing software upgrades and also the maps seems to be an issue . . poor quality acuse they are free I guess. Also the CS connection to the Mav2 Seems to be flakey . . I often have to unplug and insert again more than once to get it to connect. Hopefully they will fix the software compatibiulity soon
You can use any ipad with the stock lightning-usb cord and a tablet holder to fit (there are some really great ones).
Nice review. Looks like the Ben Frank.
Thanks for the amazing review *Billy* and sharing the footage. I just realised that H265 footage won't open on my 2014 MacBookPro, Resolve 15 Free version. i've just learned that you need the licenced version to use this codec on Resolve 15(please correct me if im wrong). I'm just a hobbyist and make videos for my Instagram channel using free copy of Resolve. Currently, I have Spark and will be upgrading to Zoom (and not PRO) purely for the practical reason. Although i love the Pro camera. Thank You once again. Liked & Subscribed.
Hey billy just want to say a big thanks for your tutorials they are helping me out heaps,i have only just bought my mavic 2 pro but i am more of a photographer than videographer, this video editing thing is so damn confusing and even my pc wont load the dlog video file as it doesnt have the codec or something, anyway my question to you is if you could explain in a vlog how to basic edit or even show what editing programme is suitable for the mavic 2 series as this is out of my league and i am pulling my hair out lol editing photos is easy but doing video editing is a hole new thing to me.hope you can help me out with this cause i would like to try and do a video, just dont know how and what software is conpatible with this drone. Thanks in advance hope to hear from ya soon.
if you download original files you'll see a clear winner. Zoom is way more detailed Pro is more blurry. I don't mean digital sharpness, I mean detail. I guess the thing is so called line skipping on Pro 2
Verdict: Phantom 4 pro is still a king)
Can you do a presentation and demonstration of the NEW WayPoint w/POI Intelligent Flight Mode? It seems to have 2 nice features. (1) You can fly or use a map prior to flight to set the waypoints. (2) You can select a POI for each waypoint. This is like having the camera aim at a selected POI for any shape you develop with the waypoint pattern you design. WOW ... much more than the "circular only" POI of the past. This subtle difference seems to have been overlooked. If this is really how the NEW WayPoint Intelligent Flight mode works, it would really set the new drone apart. Then the questions is if this mode will be updated for DJI G0 4 for all drones.
Hi Billy, it would be nice if you could do a PICTURE quality comparison of the Phantom 4 pro vs Mavic 2 pro. Since I'm a phantom 4 pro fan, but can't make up my mind on which to order... The mavic 2 pro, or mavic zoom. Many thanks, keep up the good work.
can you change the FOV in jpeg photo mode also? thanks for your answer in advance.
I actually love the HQ Mode it looks a lot sharper to me and makes the image look a lot better in my opinion, makes you not compromise on image quality and you basically have a zoom lens too I prefer the pro over the zoom
Can you zoom in as you fly the with Maverick 2 pro?
No
Hey Billy, Nice find and thanks for digging into the manual for all the Mavic 2 Pro owners. That's very interesting comparing the two Mavic's images together, thanks!
Just analyzed some of the footage on your Google Drive.
Seems like you recorded the D-Log footage with a sharpening setting of -3.
The Phantom 4 Pro applied blur using this setting. A workaround was to set it to -2 which still applied sharpening but at least no blur.
Apart from that footage looks great and way better than anything I've seen from the Phantom 4 Pro.
Been waiting for this test. Thank you. The HQ on the Pro is so fucking gorgeous.
Nice video, Billy. And thanks too for the link to the manual. I'll have a week to read it now before my M2P arrives.
Very informative....BUT try to use precision landing..., it's gone!
Please what is your picture profile for Dlog-m? ( sharp, saturation and contrats)
talk too much , (Long Wind!!! ) Just......Fly the freaking Drone!!!!
So if full sensor is 5.5K 20MP then in HQ mode sensor size is 4K = 12MP?
So if you could only pick one or the other, would you bring the zoom or the pro??
Like on its own which is more valuable to you, that parallax and Dolly, or the larger image sensor?
@@cpojoe Well that's the question isn't it?!. When I saw the leaked info pre - launch I was gunning for the Pro but after seeing what the zoom brings its a tougher choice although I'm still leaning towards the Pro. As a first time drone buyer who's been waiting for the Mavic 2 launch I'm struggling to decide.
Great Videos, just subscribed to the chanel :)
Would you do Mavic pro 2 RC setting walkthrough ?
Thanks
Great explanation of the difference of the two. So what's you favorit drone, the inspire of the new mavic series
nice i just bought mine mp2 comes tomorrow,,,, cant wait nice video bro
Duce, I meant to comment this on the other video, those train shots are epic, the way you follow and ,matched the speed, outa control!!, no actually, total control :D
all Dji drones seem to have end of life >3 years. mavic pro is in the list.?
they did end of life the Mavic Pro this week.
Will I get 4 Pro image quality from the Mavic 2 or not ?
I have the mavic pro and the 4 pro. If the mavic 2 is as good as the 4 pro i would sell the mavic pro and get the 2, what do you think ?
That's exactly what I just did. Mavic pro... Sold, mavic 2 pro... On the way.
Also, the portability is important to mention
Hot Brass and Bullets everything I read and have seen says the P4P is going to perform better. I’m kinda sad that I sold my p4p. Best: have both the phantom four pro and the mavic two pro.
This looks like you are filming in Philly/ South Jersey. I am just curious, did you need to get permission to fly near the bridge and in the city or did you just do it? I want to film on the river walk along the Schuykill and wasn't sure if I could fly the drone or not.
Yeah! No permits needed to fly over the water.
@@billykyle Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers.
My gosh man! 6 videos in 3 days! HOW ARE YOU DOING IT!?!?! Lol
Nice shots of the Ben Franklin. You must live somewhere near me. I fly over that way also. Good video!!!
What's the field of view in degrees of the 1080p mode as a comparison?
Drone videos are amazing.
But I started looking at what and where you can fly them... wow, I don't think the average person has an idea how limited you are on where you can fly one.
Want to video Old Faithful? Not allowed
Want to video the Statue of Liberty? Not allowed
Want to video down Market street? Not allowed
Pretty much restricted to your property, wild areas with no people.
It is really limited in environment, because it is safe to use drones wherever possible.
What f-stop were you shooting at? Did you use ND filters?
Just found your site - you do great work man! Peace from the UK!
Long press the screen and you can pan the camera!!
Billy, Can you do a walk through with the best settings for the Mavic 2 pro? Thanks
Did you buy both versions of the new Mavic 2? Do you plan to keep both?
