  • So here I was after multiple starts and stops from what was planned as a thru-hike had become a multi-section hike and it was finally coming to an end...
The last day was a warm one as I headed out from Intake Farm in Littlebeck and finally got to Falling Foss, a pretty waterfall in a cool wooded valley. The walk from the Foss to the head of the valley at Old May Beck was a pleasant section and I encountered multiple walkers with the dogs and then the masses started to appear heading down to the Falling Foss Cafe.
A sharp climb up the road led on to some pretty moorland covered in heather in full bloom. Crossing the B1416 was unpleasant with no path and it was a high-speed road. It was one of the worst road crossings on the entire trail.
Heading over the Greystone Hills towards Hawsker was thankfully for me just an uneven path but I could imagine a few days of rain and this would have been a quagmire.
The road walk towards and by Hawsker was fairly easy going and I soon found myself rejoining the Cleveland Way at Northcliffe Holiday Park and the sharp drop down to the cliffs edge.
The final section into RHB seemed to go on forever there was no breeze and it was stifling but I was eventually passing the Coast Guard Station and then heading down into Robin Hood's Bay, the end of the Coast to Coast.
It was heaving when I arrived and the tide was in so although crowded, throwing the stones I'd carried was an easy task.
Dipping my toes in the sea I'd finally covered every step from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay.
A pint in the Bay Hotel to celebrate and then time to jump on the bus to head home...
The Coast to Coast is a particularly challenging walk, which requires a significant amount of fitness especially if you are carrying a full pack. The Lakes and Cleveland Hills are surprisingly tough. However, access to places to stay, food and resupply is particularly easy compared to other trails.
