Very excellent instruction. I will not mount on the horizontal and now I know precisely why. Thank you for showing the "Why." Stay safe Mark. I also like your jacket.
I am a combat arms veteran. What I will say about mounting lasers is its mostly shooters preference / choice. What most do not know "No offense ill-trained law enforcement and civilian pukes" is that these lasers are more for communication than they are shooting, at least in the military. A team/squad leader can use their laser to point out enemy targets or point where they want a troop to move. So yes, more for communication than actual shooting. We use lasers, infrared, tracers for a reason. If the laser stops working, we can shoot some tracers and let everyone know where to engage. If night vision goes out / IR / we can still use a visible laser. If all SHTF, then fix bayonets.
I dont mount lasers for team/squad communications or tactics. Most here probably aren't either. I find point of impact shooting is faster than point of aim inside my home and train that way.
@@dsstrauser6144 There is no such thing as point of impact shooting dude... But by all means, can you explain your civilian jargon? Your comment has so much bs in it I'm going out of my way to call you out. It pisses me off. One, you don't just "switch to tracers" when your IR laser "goes out" tracers are used in linked ammo for machine guns, usually one every 5 rounds. Youre not going to carry magazines with only tracers. Using tracer rounds under night vision defeats the purpose. You communicate with your laser?? OK so we night qual with our NODs and PEQ15s for no reason then...sorry more bs. The laser has elevation and windage adjustment for a reason. Bayonets?? Get out of here! This guy took time out of his life to give ppl some good information from decades of experience. Your comment is insulting. You should delete this comment and do better in your life.
@@waltermullaney5041 At ease civ turd. Oh the ignorance... Ready to listen and learn m0r0n? Or are you to heated up (pissed off) and ignorant to learn? Guess what? Your nods might not work. Your PEQs might not work. 1 or the other might work. There is a REASON why the military has 3 sources for night fires. Any command not teaching the reasoning behind tracers being used with NVGs and IR is failing their troopers. If you disagree with what I have to say, that ONLY means, you lack experience and tactical training. That is a fact that cannot be changed with your words, opinion nor feelings. Do you know what tracer rounds are for? Tracers exist for a few reasons. The main reason "Especially for a machine gun" is to be able to adjust fires on the fly. If you are hitting low or over target, you're going to see it unless you're as blind as a bat. If you don't your AG/AB should be able to see it. Bottom line, the main reason for tracers is to adjust fires on a beating zone. Another reason for tracers is combat safety via establishing right and left limits. Still with me? This is where the safety comes into play. Let me give you an example of basic react to contact to explain how it's for safety purposes also. Element takes fire, your element gets down and reacts with a cyclic rate of fire immediately to gain fire superiority. Bravo team gets up and starts flanking the enemy position all while covered by machine gun fires and hopefully some mortar fires. Once the bravo team is in position, they communicate that back and shift fire is given. Shift fire "DOES NOT" mean removing fires off of the target. It merely means keeping fires in front of the flanking element "B-Team in this instance" and targeting any "squirters" exiting or evading the position the B-Team pushes out. This is where "safety" comes into play. B-team can see where those fires are landing at as and obviously A-Team can. So say you are getting ready to move into B5. "B5 could be depending on a units SOP Bravo floor which is the 2nd floor and 5 being the 5th room on the target building" etc. etc. etc. During a "lift fire", alpha team "The support by fire element" now has shift and lift "Lift and shift is mil jargon" fires which takes all fires from A-team off of the target. They can still engage enemy personal exiting the buildings or out in the open. The SAFETY part is pretty understood now yes? Now try and focus on this other reason for tracers... Try hard... You have tracers, IR lasers and NVGs that work into 1 system if used correctly. If one goes down "Say your NVGs take a shit, you can take your laser system (to many to list) and switch it from IR to visible. Lasers ARE NOT only for shooting purposes. They are mostly used for communication purposes. Say a team leader wants to give a trooper a left and right limit. Instead of trying to explain to them in the dark where the tree is at 0230 in the dark and fog, he just takes his laser and says, see this spot? ROGER THAT! done... See this intersection? ROGER THAT! done... This is your left and right limit, here is your PDF1 and PDF2 etc. etc. This is also for pinpointing enemy positions. WHERE IS HE! Right there, on my laser. ROGER THAT! Okay so now that we have established how lasers are used for communication devises, here is what I said... I did not say magazines. Magazines would imply that I used more than 1 magazine filled with tracer rounds. I had 1 (one magazine) I would keep full of tracer rounds. Well, why would you do that?! Hey derp, derp. Think about it... In the event I need to communicate during a night fight there is a couple reasons for it. Let's go back to A Team firing on the enemy OP and I am with B Team getting ready to assault through the OBJ. I call up in position and SHTF and for some reason coms are out. Well, why don't you just use a whistle and toot your horn! Well noob, it could be too far away for them to hear it amongst machine gun fires, I would rather not let the enemy know where I am at by using a whistle and a visual is always a better secondary communication for lifting and shifting fires. "Kind of like the movie Gladiator I know you have seen where the fire the arrow into the air during the battle scene". _This was basically to let the other commanders know that they are getting ready to assault etc. etc."_ Besides, me firing tracer rounds into the air will be camouflaged by other fires. In other words, the enemy will not be able to distinguish my fires from other fires from the A Team. Well, some CAG operator might, but not your typical haj. This is what the tracers could be used for. Well, what about a star cluster? Not always available and sometimes the overhead removes that possibility. So, I can shoot some tracers and let them know I am ready to assault. I can use the tracers again once I am on the position so that they can lift fires etc. Bottom line is this. Tracers have multiple uses. So yes, if your IR laser goes out, you can still see where you are shooting if you raped one of the SAW gunners drummed magazines and took the tracers out. Hopefully your unit is squared away, and your XO got ammo that already has tracers in the mix within the crates of zipper clipped ammunition so that you don't have to rape the SAW gunner's drums of tracer rounds. Do you have an understanding of what tracer rounds are for now? If you NVGs go out, you can still communicate and you can still see where you are firing. Yes, you can turn your IR laser on to visible laser. Not the best thing to do, but you can do it. What if the IR laser takes a shit entirely? Still have tracer rounds. What if you don't have tracer rounds at all? Then hopefully your NVGs and laser still work. The 1 magazine (filled with tracers) I carried on deployment was for commo, not to engage enemy LOL. Do you now understand why I carried a full magazine of tracer ammo? It's so 'in the event' SHTF and I need to quickly let the PL know where I am at by a few shots in the air or it could be because dopy the private isn't seeing where I am telling him to engage so a couple of fast pops towards where I want him to shoot is a fast way to let him know where. If that doesn't work, I lay on top of him, tell him he's blind and point it out for him. Carry on...

It only helps establish the point of convergence for that given distance. Now move your rifle forward or away from the target and see how that works. Bullets don’t fly flat.
I agree vertical is better then horizontal, however you should not mount a laser below the barrel why…. But when it’s on top you lob the bullet up slight and it will go above the laser and be zeroed at two distances because on it way down it will be another zero but when it’s below you are only zeroed at one distance and past that the laser will need to be aimed above the target to hit but on top youll have the laser below the target to hit in between those two zeros You 100% want it on top and not the bottom

Another reason for mounting it on the bottom has to do with how the round travels. The more distance there is to the target the greater the ark will be. The laser does not travel in a ark it travels in a straight line. You cannot account for the round ark if you mount the laser on the side of the weapon. This also creates a problem when mounting the laser on top. The bottom works out to be the best position to account for the round ark of the round. Also the size of the laser dot gets bigger the more distance you have to the target and the bottom mount turns out to be the best. Most of the lasers we use in the military have to be mounted on the top for access to the push buttons and proper grip placement to work together.
It’s the other way around on top account for the arc of the bullet trajectory and bottom does not your laser below has one zero on top it has two zeros because where the first zero is where the straight laser meets the beginning of the arc and the 2nd zero is where the bullets falls back into line with the laser

Yes, at some point, you have to deal with bullet drop and rise. But realistically using a laser past 25 yards I wouldn’t advise. They were good when I was on the swat team for inside of buildings when used with night vision goggles. I appreciate you watching and thanks for commenting.
This is well explained but I don’t believe that there is a perfect way to mount a laser. I personally wouldn’t count on one for any sort of distance. I have a laser/green dot mounted on the side and both sighted at 25 yards because my bottom rail is occupied by a bipod and a forward grip. My scope is sighted for distance and all I need the laser and dot sight for is close target acquisition, not to drive nails. I’m very happy with this setup.
I put one on Sabrina’s rifle. She has macular degeneration so the center of her vision, can’t see, or focus on a sight or crosshairs. I think it’s a good tool for people with disabilities. They can shoot from the hip as long as they can see the light, and be pretty close to target. With that being said on a shotgun, it is a pretty good tool, since accuracy at close range is not as much a factor.
No. Improper light discipline can telegraph your location. You lead with your head and eyes and muzzle of your weapon. Normally around the corner you use a technique called slicing the pie. I never used laser in a swat operation. For instance, if you had to throw a grenade into a room prior to entry, smoke, etc. can make the laser useless. Try shining a flashlight through smoke in the dark and you’ll see what I mean. Only time I would use a laser was with night vision goggles. You should only use any kind of light sparingly in a tactical situation. I see many police officers using their flashlights improperly. That is why an easily accessible hand switch is paramount for a weapons light.
I dont have near the experience as you, but I do have common sense and many years shooting. Mounting a laser offset, is plain stupid and I have never understood why someone would do that. Greetings from SW TX.
Ummm wtf ... I can't believe we are talking about this , for me it's common sense and I just assumed that everyone knows this and it's only in the movies where they have them mounted on the side just to "look cool " just like when they shoot pistols in movies and hold them on the side because it "looks cool " ... well there you go .. great vid to watch

My scope is sighted for distance and all I need the laser and dot sight for is close target acquisition, not to drive nails. I’m very happy with this setup.
i rarely, if ever, run a laser. I use them for bore sighting. great info to know though if that is in your wheel house
@@MarkKratzMC i never would have thought the part about shooting from hip or any other non shoulder position
Good points. Thanks!
Thank you for the insight
if you're peeking corners dont use your laser.
Very informative Sir
Thanks and thanks for watching
I agree 💯💯
Outstanding video
Thanks, Dave
I dont have near the experience as you, but I do have common sense and many years shooting. Mounting a laser offset, is plain stupid and I have never understood why someone would do that. Greetings from SW TX.
Hey, thanks for the visit. I’ve been sick the last three weeks and starting to feel better. I appreciate you leaving a comment.
A person would be stupid not to subscribe. You have alot of experience so that means i can learn alot from this guy..

@@MarkKratzMC Thanks Much and Great Video, Keep Up the Great Work Brother!
dont you mean your going to miss high?
Ummm wtf ... I can't believe we are talking about this , for me it's common sense and I just assumed that everyone knows this and it's only in the movies where they have them mounted on the side just to "look cool " just like when they shoot pistols in movies and hold them on the side because it "looks cool " ... well there you go .. great vid to watch
Yes in Hollywood you have to so the brands. Like Miami vice, they held the pistols up by their faces for the money shot and to show the Rolex
Any laser worth putting on your rifle is going to have windage/elevation adjustment. It doesn't really matter where you mount it.
It does
It does but you can sight them in at 25yards and be done with it. Wouldn’t depend on them any further than that.
The laser should be mounted on top of the rail at 12 o'clock.. You also have a cheap Amazon laser mounted on your rifle😏
Dude has a tasco optic and he wants to make a UA-cam video.. this is insane tell grandpa this is not what he wants😂😂😂😂
i like this
This is just a video of you bragging about being a cop.. spare me.
