I have been looking for a van to use for mobile repairs and was looking at government surplus auctions. This 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan was nearly 5 hours away in Tennessee listed as a bad engine and bad transmission, and after almost no activity on the listing I decided to bid on it. And at $310, I won it! In this video I assess how bad it is and what it really needs to get going again (hint: it isn't as bad as it seems).

I would like to install one on both this and the truck at some point. Maybe this off season!

@@EllisMowersandmore I had a Mercury Villager wherein I would load a tractor so that I could mow a commercial property I then owned. I would slowly drive it up the ramps to where the heavy engine end was inside the van, then brake it & cut the engine. I would then dismount & easily push it all the in. My tractor fit with the steering wheel in place but you would have to remove the wheel before the final push.

Yeah Casey like what Mick said a little winch would make it a lot easier. Great find!!! Looking forward to a winch video 📹....

Very cool. You may want to somehow permanently mount/anchor a chain in the back that can latch to the tractors tow area. If you are in any type of accident, you have 500lbs of Troy-Bilt coming right at you.

You probably need to replace the batteries in the tire pressure sensors

Well it’s a Chrysler product. Not a fan, but if works and reliable for local driving go for it . It’s a steel. Hopefully it works out

It has so far, thankfully they are very easy to work on. I wish other manufacturers made vans with the Stow N Go seating like Chrysler did.

Nice van Ellis, exactly what you need. Good you got that crankshaft seal replaced and the serpentine belt as well. I'm also happy to see that all the electrical amenities still work after over 200,000 miles. Forget the TPMS sensors, you don't need them, just check the tire pressure manually. It would be a good idea to hookup your OBDII scanner to check for other codes though. If your in state that doesn't do vehicle inspections, the worn out catalytic converter don't matter, so as long as its not restricting the flow of the exhaust from the engine. Glad to see you can get some riding mowers in there. Get your Ellis Mowers & More decal over those doors, and ride proud.

Thanks, I had to replace the transmission cooler as it was leaking after making this video. No emissions in my county and the TPMS sensors won't be replaced. It is a great van for what I'll be using it for!

I happened across your video in my Recommended list, as I have a 2008 Town & Country van I’m going to use for auto parts hauling. It’s days as a family hauler are pretty much over, but I’ll leave the seats in the floor wells in case I need to carry a helper or two.
Point of my comment is, if you’re lugging heavy tractors and such in that, you should consider installing heavier duty rear springs. I’m going to put a pair in mine, the next step up in rating (the heaviest duty springs are used in wheelchair accessible transports).
    A recommended upgrade that doesn’t cost a ton. 😎

Good idea, I'm going to see how it all pans out and then do some upgrades here and there as long as everything holds up with the engine and trans. So far it has.

Caravans are nice I used to load them at Home Depot you can put a lot in those we would put like drywall the 4 * 8 sheets go all the way from the back of the seat press wood 4 ft by 8 ft we put that in there. I love buying used cars I would work on them I love the adventure you never knew what you were going to get but a lot of times you would get gem. I had a Jeep Compass 2010 the rest of the body was like little surface rust here and there to my finding when they did the inspection the engine cradle I never even heard of one of these a lot of makes models have this problem rust write out and it only only had 74,000 Mi on it I'm disabled I couldn't put it in but I couldn't even find anybody would put it in so I sold to somebody else and they found somebody to put it. I want to get one we live up on a hill in Pennsylvania we get the wood pallets all the time but we don't think it would make it up the hill so we never bought one I wish I could come in 4-wheel drive but anyways thank you for the video

I'm near Durham NC, so it was about 4.5 hours to Greenville TN to pick it up. We don't have deals like this in our area.
