What do you mean? I have a Dell, Win 10, and VLC. I just purchased a new commercial set of DVDs (Longmire), and the computer doesn't even recognize that there is a disk in the disk drive. Yet, an older dvd I'd previously purchased works just fine. I'm really frazzled....
@@coeneschamaun1735 I'm not an expert with DVDs, but I can try and guess a few things that explain that. Maybe your DVDs are different in some way? Like, maybe your computer doesn't recognize it because it's some kind of different type of DVD. Or maybe there's something wrong with the player itself? I don't know, I think it's best to ask a computer shop about that.

This worked great It was easy to set up and I don't know much about computer stuff anymore. LVC requests a donation of at least 4 euro or more. Pay it....totally worth it. I'm so glad I decided to see what that disc thing on my computer was for, lol. Comments from others kept saying media player doesn't work and many tried VLC so that's the route I went. thanks so much for the help

VLC is great but to be safe go to the original website and when you go to the original website and download VLC your notice that you'll be able to play DVDs as well as CDs this video was great and thank you so much for your help

This trick worked very well for my Acer Aspire e15/e5-575-72n3 laptop, it originally didn't come with a drive but had a slot for it, and this works very well, I tested it with my Sonic the Hedgehog movie DVD version "I also have Blu-Ray" and this trick worked perfectly...thanks.

Wish you were a neighbour; I live in Japan and am a woman in my 50s always struggling to sort out computer problems thru videos like yours. Most of my friends are older females like me and if I ask them anything concerning PCs, provider contracts, whatever, they invariably tell me they have no idea and say: "I always leave it to my husband, son, son-in-law (insert any male relation here) " and it is so frustrating. Is it the same in the UK and why? Why do men seem to be more knowledgeable on the whole? BTW nice to hear a British accent again!
VLC is a good and quick work-around, I use it myself, but it might not play all dvds. For example it doesn't always like discs with more than one episode on.
Thank you, that was very useful. I have to go into hospital soon (joint replacement, big op but just mechanical repair rather than anything nasty) and these days they make an eye-watering daily charge to watch tv etc so I plan to take my laptop.
If you have homebrew on your Wii or WiiU, you can connect that same drive to it via usb and play dvds with the WiiMC app. On the WiiU you can watch them off the game pad.
I can't thank you enough - I have spent almost a full day on the MS Store and bought three aps that I hated. THIS ONE IS SIMPLE AND IT WORKS!!! Now - I hooked up a external HD/DVD optical Drive so I can watch my DVD but it will not recognize the Disc - is there a player you can recommend? THANK YOU.

Never could get mine to work. I had to replace the DVD player and the pc recognized it. I simply cannot get the VLC to function. I followed every step exactly.

There’s a Power DVD CD that should come with your external player if you go to Best Buy.
for me all I get is a stupid orange cone staring me in the face all the time every time I open it!

I use VLC to play DVDs, CDs, and lots of other things. For Winamp, I use it to play audio and look at the visualizations while the audio plays.
