I moved to Reno more than 25 years ago and you hit many of the highlights! With the exception of this pandemic year, there is always something going on in Reno ! From the pub crawls to the many events (Artown, Rodeo, Rib Cookoff, Hot August Nights, Street Vibrations, Balloon and Air Races, cultural festivals) and outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, climbing, snowshoeing, kayaking, skydiving) there is never a dull moment! I think I need to do the mural walk as there are several in the video that I have yet to see! Thank you for sharing!
Next time your in town try Scoopers! It's an old fashion local burger place. The original local has the parking spots and walk up window like an old fashion drive up. The food is ok but the milkshakes are TO DIE FOR and they have more flavors than any other place I've seen!

Great list, but you forgot the Reno Aces ballpark. It’s great catch a game there. Also the great long standing Basque restaurant, Loius’ Basque Corner!
Those giant rings in front of the museum represent wedding rings and hark back to the days Reno was known as the "divorce capital of the world" from 1909 to 1970. It was short to establish residency (thus all the roadside weeklies) and grounds for divorce were very lenient, which brought couples from all over the world to split the knot. Afterward many liberated lovers walked out of the courthouse and tossed their rings in the Truckee. People still do it, and in the summer you can see metal detectors wading around searching for preciousss :D And "The Basement" is in the old post office; too bad the top has closed because it is really cool with all the old PO boxes and art-deco design :)
You can play Duplicate Bridge at Mathewson Bridge Center 5 days a week. Classes are also offered if you want to learn to play bridge, a great competitive card game.
I've stayed at every casino's hotel, here are my ratings in order. 1. Grand Sierra Resort 2. Circus Circus 3. Silver Legacy 4. El Dorado 5. Atlantis Atlantis just sucks, ElDo wifi kicks off every 5 minutes. GSR has a huge pool, indoor mall and is outstanding. Only thing bad ab it is the prices. Circus Circus has the best wifi of all casinos, and a gigantic arcade. Silver Legacy is the tallest building in Reno and has a beautiful interior while the green lights that light up every night make it 10x better.

A lot of places are getting so expensive now, including Reno. The demand is too high and there's not enough inventory. I hope the city does something to this before it gets out of control. I know Portland, Boise, Austin, etc are all going through rapid changes due to CA exodus.
@@alistairt7544 Reno has always been on the expensive side. The recession in 2008 and this pandemic have just made it out of most people's reach. We receive 2 or 3 offers in the mail almost every day from investors that want to buy our house for cash, as is. That's the problem, the rich are buying up all the property and then they flip it for a way higher amount or they rent them out at astronomical rates. We don't have the kind of job market where workers make enough to afford even the smallest of places in the worst part of town. There are places that you wouldn't go by yourself and the rent is higher than my mortgage -- I bought my house 20 years ago so it's not exactly a fair comparison, but even back then, I lived in an apartment before buying my house and I was paying $300 more a month than I paid on my mortgage.
What's amazing is I'd love to say is: add Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, Truckee/Donner and Carson City, because between us all they're continuations of home - but they are they're truly all their own entities that would need their own full videos. The best place in Reno during the summer is tubing on the Truckee from Mayberry Park to Idlewild Park is the best I lived in Idlewild for 22 yrs. This is an out of the way area Secluded from the rest of the City. It's own world. On Saturday morning starting at 9am during the summer you can get a cup of joe at the coffee shack and then get the best Pot Stickers in the door way of China Dynasty in the CVS shopping center. Great way to start a Saturday morning. Fridays are Food Truck Friday Idlewild Park. Because of the amount of visitors parking only available in the neighboring streets just don't block the home owners driveways, this is common because people don't think. You need to update your video because Brothers BBQ has relocated and old location now a Mexican Torta shop still great food. Brothers BBQ now in Midtown. I enjoyed my 22 years in Reno and am now living on a Farm in Kentucky. Idlewild will always be in my heart.
Hotel Jesse is a hip this six room hotel with bar downstairs, and Tequila and Taco garden in the gated area behind. Great mattresses. Great staff. It is downtown near the minor league baseball park and across the street from the bus station. Recently gutted and rebuilt. Allows dogs. We stayed here four nights while we were looking for a new house.

Hot August Nights.. a week of old fashioned cars in mint condition completely fill the city! Street Vibrations ... HARLEY-DAVIDSON'S literally shake the city for a whole week! The Rib Cook off.. if you want good food, this is the week to be in Reno/Sparks! Born and raised here in Reno. Only thing that saddens me is how much the mental health system has failed the many homeless people you see downtown. It's depressing to see first-hand
How is it mental health issues when they don't want to work and rather get a few bucks and go smoke a rock. It's not mental health. It's poor life decisions they have 100s of programs to get them back on there feet. They choose to be homeless.
@@koobski the reasoning behind the drugs is because of past trauma and they are stuck in this headspace where they just wanna escape. They need help and they need to be shown that they matter and they still have worth just like everyone else
I was waiting to see a comment like this.. I'm from California and visit reno frequently. I'm in Reno now and I gave a bag of food to homeless off the strip.
@@serenagutierrez395 there needs to be change. These homeless people deserve love and know that they have just as much worth as everyone else. They treated so poorly here
Additionally: The go cart race and drift tracks at the Grand Sierra, and the zoo north of town in Stead. Cuz, really? You're list of best places in the city includes a thrift store?
As another native Renoite, this is a great video. Of course, as he said, there is much more, and I will add only a few places, such as Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe, the Nevada State Historical Museum, The Pyramid, at Pyramid Lake (from onshore), Truckee, CA (another 25-minute drive, and half-day excursion with an "old town), antique row, which a bunch of antique stores on S. Virginia in mid-town, Scheels (I rarely pitch businesses, but this place is fun), and, if you are a science nerd, try to get a tour of the Desert Research Institute, plus, finally, come on one of the great event weekends, such as Hot August Nights (old cars) or the Nevada Air Races ! Thank you and enjoy!!!!!!!
I've been here for 31 years and the only places I've been is the river walk and the car museum. I've never heard of the rest of the places. I guess I'm missing out, too. lol
Been here for almost 22 years and I am happy to say I have visited most of this places, some of them multiple times, I recommend to every one to go check the Depot, really good service there
Visit The Halfway Club. An incredible Italian restaurant that, just recently, Grandma Inez, who had cooked incredible meals, passed away. The half and half is amazing; half ravioli, and half spaghetti. Add the meatballs. These aren't your typical meatballs, these are the size of your fist! Everything is cooked homemade, and, ask them how you can write your name on their wall! Hint...make sure to have a designated driver!
The things I like the most about Reno is that we have pretty lax laws and restrictions on what and when stores can sell anything. Also we have a lot of public land so you can camp just about anywhere you want
I miss Reno, NV. I lived in Reno for many years and my family live there. Its changed a lot thru out the years and I think the changes has made it better. The art is beautiful and the restaurants are the best! I live in Puerto Rico now but I'm going to visit Reno soon. I'm definitely going to try some pastry at that bakery. 775 STAND UP!
Have never been to Reno and had no idea about the murals. Really awesome! It looks like you must have visited during the peak of autumn so that River Walk is stunning. Virginia City is pretty high up on our list.
This video was amazing. We have done several of the things suggested already and every one of them has lived up to the hype. If you're headed to Reno, this video does an amazing job to showcase some of the awesome-ness of Reno and the wonderful city it really is!
I went to Reno the last week in a solo trip, I had a really bad time :( I understand that there are homeless in all cities, but in this case two of them with serious mental problems made me run away. A woman yelled at me as if she knew me, she started insulting me and when I wanted to walk away she went after me while continue cursing me, I have to run and hide in "the basement" until I felt safe. I got very nervous and preferred to leave.
Lived in Reno 2012 > 2014. Totally took me by surprise!!! Great place! Best Thai food I've ever had at Thai Lotus. Across Virginia St. from Thai Lotus is the best Whole Foods I've been in. At the time had possibly the best bread bakery EVER ! ! !
Yeah! you went to the car museum, a great collection, the sculpture in the other museum is also pretty unique and without the crazieness of the actual Burning Man. Never really explored Reno, usually the place where we stay when Tahoe is just too expensive. Will do the river walk next time, seems fun.
Nice list. Definitely some new things for me to check out. But, you left off the Terry Lee Wells Nevada DISCOVERY Museum at 490 S Center St. If you have kids, it's even better, but there's plenty for adults too enjoy, too. I've been to many different science, technology, and children's museums, and this one is really great at combining those three aspects into one entertaining and educational museum. No food or drinks inside, but there are convenient eats within easy walking distance.
I'm homeless and love this vacation city. The only place I know of where you can thrive and not just survive dispite your class (upper, lower or middle). I think I will try that rock climbing. How many homeless in the world love the city where they reside? Well I love this city, so much opportunity here. I'm about to work, get a home, it's great, the American dream. An I was homeless with a 1st grade education. This is the city to come to.

Gold and silver diner is really good. Love to go there especially with living right down the street from it.
As an omnivore, I was surprised at how good Laughing Planet was.
Yes! Legends as whole! Meadowood is a normal mall but still pretty cool! If you want a nice view of Reno / Sparks, go up to Somersett.
Honestly as someone who lives here, there isn't too much too see😅, still pretty neat here though!

Yeah I was born and raised in Reno so all of this is like “oh I did/saw that almost every week”
You just don't see so good
Agreed
No matter where anyone lives it’s always “boring and not much to do” .
And I’ve lived on the east and west coast
Hey now! Born and raised here. I love my City🍻
Reno also has a ton of all you can eat sushi for about $25 per person.
Probably one of my favorite things being raised in Reno.... I feel spoiled by it when I go to California and you have to buy by plate
Can you name drop some of your favorite spots?
Jose Torre ijjis, tha joint
Jose Torre tha joint has better customer service
@@rickycortes1322 thanks. Appreciate it
Born and raised here in Reno.
@@koobski I hear your opinion, not all homeless are lazy they're a million more reasons why they are the way they are. It's ok to be kind sometimes
@@serenagutierrez395 there needs to be change. These homeless people deserve love and know that they have just as much worth as everyone else. They treated so poorly here
That's the first time I've heard a walkway located roughly two stories above street level described as "underground." 3:26
That part bugged me too!
Haha!! SAME!! Or... bridges connecting them he meant?
I’ve lived here all my life ans have never heard of some of these places😂
Same lol
hi taylor k hahaha
@@kurtlawrence507 heyyy
what’s your ig? 😂

I had never thought of visiting Reno, but this made me reconsider. 👍🏼
Its really just a HOMELESS dump. If u like the truth
It's a great jumping off point for visits to Lake Tahoe and Loneliest Road as well.
@@MrMattcatalano I live in Reno and honestly this is pretty accurate. Reno has some nice areas as well though.
Reno is magical and you should definitely come.
@@MrMattcatalano it’s so privileged and disgusting to call something a homeless dump go choke
Almost everyone in the comment lives here.
Myself included
I would recommend visiting a huge store chock-full of collectibles called Antiques and Treasures in downtown Reno. It is pretty cool!
Thanks, sounds like an awesome spot!
Its now closed
@@jadenyuki3138 Man, that sucks.
Additionally:
The go cart race and drift tracks at the Grand Sierra, and the zoo north of town in Stead. Cuz, really? You're list of best places in the city includes a thrift store?
Oh I completely forgot the zoo!! Lol
I thought that was weird too lol.
I'm a Pyramid Lake tribal member, & don't think the Pyramid side is open to public. To much vandalism.❤😊
Hi
Been here for almost 21 years and have been to none of these, definitely missing out.
I've been here for 31 years and the only places I've been is the river walk and the car museum. I've never heard of the rest of the places. I guess I'm missing out, too. lol
Been here for almost 22 years and I am happy to say I have visited most of this places, some of them multiple times, I recommend to every one to go check the Depot, really good service there
Soooo much Burning Man, all over the city! Much more than last time I was there. 😃
I moved out of Reno a year ago and man what I wouldn’t give for a breakfast at pegs
If you remember landrums at all? That was a feast for a king.
@@jamesmurray3082 that was a little before my time, but I’ve heard about it before.
Reno looks so empty...
Ooh I need to tell my hubby about this place so we can go sometime!
I went to Reno the last week in a solo trip, I had a really bad time :(
I understand that there are homeless in all cities, but in this case two of them with serious mental problems made me run away. A woman yelled at me as if she knew me, she started insulting me and when I wanted to walk away she went after me while continue cursing me, I have to run and hide in "the basement" until I felt safe.
I got very nervous and preferred to leave.
Awesome Josh. We've been to Reno twice and love the city. Now we need to go again to try a few recommendations on this list
Awesome, I hope you enjoy them!
Awesome, I will have to have thai food next time!
Thai Lotus is seriously one of the best Thai restaurants I've been. And their Whole Foods has great selection!
Thai Lotus is so good, but i also love Moo Dang, specifically their Panang Curry...yum
Another one is Tamarack but it's not thai food
Yeah! you went to the car museum, a great collection, the sculpture in the other museum is also pretty unique and without the crazieness of the actual Burning Man. Never really explored Reno, usually the place where we stay when Tahoe is just too expensive. Will do the river walk next time, seems fun.
The car museum was really amazing! We loved it. I was glad to get to spend some time in the city
Thanks for the tip, sounds like a cool spot to check out
The Discovery Museum is one of my favorite places-wonder, enchantment and awe. Even got a flu shot there last year!
Hi Josh!
Now I want to go to Reno as well. Thanx for the video!😊
I didnt even know that place was called the row. Me and my family just call it circus circus😂
Thanks for making this video!! I love living in Reno! Next time youre here, try Beaujolais Bistro, its so good! My favorite restaurant in the city!
Your a lucky man Josh, getting paid to look around, there’s only one other person that comes close to what you do and that’s the Daily Woo. Good job Josh, keep it up.
Love it!! I graduated from UNR and enjoyed revisiting the area through your lens. Thanks for another great video. 🥰🙏🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
