    Duane Eddy grew up in Phoenix. Cut this song in Phx at a local studio, with Lee Hazelwood as the producer.. His group took it's name Rock'n Rebels from my high school, South Mountain HS, The Rebels. The B side of this 45 was called "South Phoenix" where I lived.

  • @primalcoach1
    @primalcoach1 6 років тому +137

    Some of the guys in school back then complained that Eddy's playing was overly simplistic, and that "anyone could do that." First, it takes skill to do what he did, and second, what really matters is, does the music sound good to you? It's for entertainment, fer chrissakes! Not a competition to see who can do the most complicated riffs, it's just for making music. I've been playing guitar for some time, now, and I still can't do what he did, as simple as it sounds. I'm not a natural, so I may be slow or unable to master certain skills, but I still respect those who can do what I can't.

    • @evensteve284
      @evensteve284 6 років тому +10

      @primalcoach1 - I agree with you. Some might put down Dwane Eddy for being a “one trick pony” but that doesn’t matter if you can do that “one trick” better than anyone else!

      primalcoach1 that music is *primal* ... it hits you straight in the gut - that’s why the old folks were afraid of the visceral beat and those knarly, rude sounds, and the young folk were so stimulated!

    • @michaelszczys8316
      @michaelszczys8316 5 років тому +8

      It’s not tons of skill that makes a hit, but writing something original. If you have both then that is great but sometimes people write a new tune and can’t even play it themselves, or they learn just enough to perform it.
      I knew plenty of people that could play the neck right off of a guitar but couldn’t write anything good to save their soul.

      With his passing he may very well have been the last of the real true 50s Rockin Rollers
      I guess you'd have to count Chubby "Let's do the Twist" Checkers as the last of that era unless I'm not aware of anyone else still alive

    Some of Duane's best songs were album cuts and lesser known tunes that never
    were major hits. I just loved his sound back in the late 50's and still do.
    I was a fan of all those great instrumental groups back then....Duane, The Ventures, The Fireballs and Johnny & the Hurricanes.
    Somehow Duane's Rebel hat doesn't go with a sport coat and tie. 😅😅😅
