The Ballad of Chang Gan 长干行 by Li Bai 李白

This video translates and analyses one of the best-known poem by Li Bai 李白, The Ballad of Chang Gan 长干行. The poem tells the story of a young wife of a travelling merchant from a first-person perspective. Unlike the melancholy tone we often find among classical poetry in China, the poem sounds endearing, romantic, and even courageous! No wonder it is still so popular in China.

Hi, my dearest subscribers and friends. I need to take one week off because I am planning to make two videos for the Ballad of Mulan. There are quite a bit research I need to do about the historical and cultural contexts. The legend of Mulan is a significant cultural icon during the last fifteen hundred years to the Chinese people. Although two videos are apparently not enough to do justice for the legend of Mulan, I would like to make the videos as good as it is possible given my resources and time.
