How did a Great Romantic Poet Ruin his own Reputation?

This video introduces a great romantic poet with a rather controversial reputation. HIs name is Yuan Zhen 元稹. He composed the most beautiful poems for romantic love and was one of the earliest novelists in Chinese literature history. However, he ruined his own reputation and that of his first love by writing an autobiographic novel in the title of 会真记 which was later adapted into a play by the title of 西厢记. It has since become one of the best known drama in China. Two romantic poems by 元稹 are translated and analysed.
