- Permies can't have all the fun! Our Otter X Over flip-over ice house is fantastic, but it gets a little crowded when the whole family goes out. I also find that overnight trips can work with my cot, but it would be better to have a sleeping area in where the seating is located. A futon can be both and it fit in the shack! With some slight modifications and a little prairie ingenuity, the futon works as seating, a bed, and still tilts out of the way to access the storage area in the sled below! There is no question that it adds weight to the flip over, but it is already chunky. Our cover still fits and the functionality outweighs any drawbacks. A REDNECK PALACE FOR THE ICE!

Sweet video. That pipe is HDPE and thats important because its more flexible than pvc or abs. Great idea and I have HDPE at work so i'm doing this for sure!!
I appreciate the comment. The futon is still going strong and works out great for overnighters and adds that extra space for all four of us to hang out in the shelter.

We have been really enjoying it. Might do an overnighter on the ice with it this weekend as the weather finally warmed up here. Arctic air mass was sitting on us for a week. 🥶

Can you still get the cover on it with the futon?
Absolutely! With the Clam Fish Trap cover I use, it has more than enough depth. If you check out my video about using the Clam cover on an Otter flip over or my review video on the shelter, there are some detailed shots of the fit and the modifications I did to make use of the cover. I never owned the Otter cover designed for this flip over to say if it would accommodate the futon or not. I did not like the design of the Otter cover as I needed the integrated cinch straps to keep the cover pinned down during transport on the highway. Hope that helps!
