    "and thats what you chose?"
"what YOU chose... I did not have full control over your hallucination, or the direction it took. It was your mind driving the delusion. I merely played along."
"Are you saying I tortured myself?"
"You torture yourself every day John. But in this case, it was your mind, manifesting your darkest fears. You were the archetype of your own self-deception."
Uhm, ouch..... not just for John, but thats basically anyone with trauma/anxiety/depression. What's interesting is that after his time in the sanctuary, viewers were made to think he had learned to let go of his regret and fear, and yet, here we are, watching his fears play out again. Shows just how deeply fears can hide, and how much they can still impact us.

Well, he still had some fears and regrets afterwards, as shown on that planet with the Wraith hallucination machine.

As a kid this was a sad scene, as an ex soldier its almost tear inducing. PTSD plays in various forms and its weird how there are many who push themselves via torturing themselves and you'd never know it. This honestly is a great scene and something Stargate did that gave these characters a bit of depth its similar to the scene with Tobin and Teal'c and you realize that Teal'c has a very horrific past of contributing to atrocities that only gets referenced here or there in a few episodes, but that line of "You will never forgive yourself," hits me in the gut as much as this scene because its very real.

The sad thing is the "military man" was most likely to be on there side. Its civilians they should of looked out for.

This is SG-A; if you desire military propaganda, watch SG-1.

@@StYxXx i dont know about good guy. guess it depends on your definition. John and by extension the Atlantis expedition did some pretty questionable things.
