I ordered a set of PXG 0311p irons. Made them 2 degrees strong so they’re sitting at 29 degrees. They were launching low with the stock offering shaft so I switched to the nippon modus pro 120 stiff and now they’re launching at 101 feet height with a decent angle of 47 degrees. 7 iron carries about 180. Best of both worlds
I fail to see the logic in a 29*, especially for players with limited club head speed unless your longest iron is a 25* 6-iron. Your 7-iron is now nearly my 5-iron. I only carry 3 wedges; 48 PW, 55 high bounce SW, 59 LW w/9* bounce. Your set makeup requires a minimum of 4 wedges and most importantly you’ve limited the number of scoring irons. For me, I have 6 clubs , my 36* 7-iron-LW that I can choose from that allow a minimum of 7500 revs on full shots to confidently shoot at pins from 175 yards in. In your set make up that would be reduced to 5, just 3 of which I’d be comfortable with full swing. I almost never take full swing w/SW and never a LW. For players w/limited clubhead speed I like to see them carry more scoring irons because they often have much lower GIR and will face more 80-120 yd 3rd shots on longer par 4’s and 120-150 yd 3rd shots into par 5’s. More high lofted clubs gives the slower swinger an opportunity to have higher spin rates and thus more control to get it closer to pin. With your loft choices, a 10.5-12* driver, a 16.5* 3-wood and maybe 2-3 hybrids they can effectively hit from fairways, 6-9 iron and 4-5 wedges would be the optimal bag setup.
@@MichaelM-to4sg I have a 9 degree driver turned down to 8 degrees that I carry about 280 yards. 15 degree 3 wood that carries 250. Then I drop to the 5 iron that carries 200. Looking at either a 4 iron, hybrid or 5 wood to fill that gap. 6 iron 195, 7 iron 185, 8 iron 175, 9 iron 165, pw 150, gw 130, lw 90. Looking at a sw to close the gap between the gap and sand. These clubs are strong lofted but are also high launching. Decent angles of 47 degrees so I can shoot at pins. I absolutely love this set up. I’ve taken 10 strokes off my game in two rounds
@@ryanwalters694 The problem I would have with that makeup is the limited scoring window you’re facing. For example from 175, you’re hitting a 33*(?), 8 iron that I’m betting you’re looking at 6000 spin? I’m hitting a 36* 7-iron that I can comfortably have 7500 spin. I’m taking dead aim at pin far more often with less risk of a bad miss. From 175-135, I am never facing a situation where I have more than 12 yard gap in my iron options which means better scoring opportunities and less chance of being between clubs. You’ve got gaps of 10-15-20 9-GW. I would recommend 1* weaker 9 and 2* stronger GW, if I had your gapping. Unless that LW is low bounce, I’d recommend limiting its usage to a 3/4 swing 60-65 yd club. It’s primary intent is firm, wet sand and flops out of deep rough. If you play courses w/fluffy sand, a high bounce SW is best choice which negates its consideration as a full swing club from tight lies and most fairways. General course management for your bag should be avoiding anything from 130-in. Your scoring targets should be 135-160 yd approaches which is entirely doable if you can tweak those lofts to tighten the gaps in your yardages.
“Up and Out there”, very true. I’ve just had these delivered after testing against a few alternatives but only gone as far as the 6 iron in my set matching the loft to my older Speedzone hybrid. My launch is great with these and not seen the issue you later described. Would recommend people have a try to see for themselves.
The Ben Hogan UiHi # 3 iron is a great iron for distance, launch and easy to hit.....for those that have trouble with the longer irons....I cary both this iron and a Cobra Hybrid depends on the condition of the fairways....Works Great...
Speaking of strong lofts for me as a super senior if a strong lofted 7 iron can get me back to where my old 7 iron use to go, I’m all in. It is amazing how technology can get that new 7 launch angle to near the launch angle of the old 7.
I am a senior and my new Rogue ST Pros and ST Max along with UST Dart graphite shafts put me back in the game. Easy to hit, distance is great, and my hand does not hurt. I absolutely love these irons.
I don’t know what a “Super Senior” is. My club they only group 50+ for Senior Club Champion. My dob is 2/7/59, does that qualify for Super Senior at your club? The problem with strong lofts is a traditional 7-iron is a scoring club. A 30*, which is halfway between my 5 & 6 iron, is not a scoring club. Too low launch and low spin to consistently and confidently know carry distance and having ability to hold a green. For older players generating less club head speed, that’s even more the case. You don’t need to maintain the same scoring iron distances you did a decade or more ago, you must however develop a target scoring range and always aim for that as an approach distance. Maybe a young good ball striker that’s 140-200, an older good ball striker it might be 90-150. If you’re playing these super-lofted irons, your scoring irons might be 9-iron through at least 3 wedges you can hit consistently from fairway with full swing. Then develop consistency choking down on each of those clubs and reducing swing length as distance and conditions allow. We build our game with scoring clubs and putter. The driver, fairway wood, hybrid and long/mid irons are to put us in position to use those scoring clubs. The SW and LW are intended to save our score from errant shot. Once you breakdown the bag in this fashion, you’ll concentrate on increasing the number of scoring clubs which in-turn will hopefully lead to better scoring. Any player with limited swing speed should look at the bags of many LPGA players. Many are carrying 4, sometimes 5 wedges and only 4 irons. That’s how you maximize scoring opportunities and minimize big crooked numbers on that card 👍
land angle is not a problem for me at all, and will put up with adjusting my club choice if need be, they're straight as an arrow, consistent, mid trajectory to get decent roll out. i club up to land it 140 yards in, no problem. i was playing rogue st os max, with the 7 at 28.5 and the ball was in the air half an hour , i get it. golf is a game of feel especially in the irons... try them out and see for yourself
Good review and valid criticism of launch angle. That’s one reason I bought Cobra’s other new game improvement iron, The AIR X. Seven iron is 31.5 degrees much more traditional; spin is high with its low CG and I liked the looks better too. Was able to leave my wedge setup intact. Cheers.
Interesting video! Cobra's irons are all pretty strong lofted. I think that the Cobra Forged Tec was probably the most interesting and maybe the best iron of 2021. Ticked all the boxes and good for a large range of players - the lofts were strong (like one club stronger) but not as bad as others, looked great, sounded great, felt like a players iron but with quite a bit of forgiveness. My problem with all these strong lofts, is yes you get the distance, but ball flight is quite strange for me.
@@ermangus Thanks for the info! That's like a normal loft (I am used to 34 in the 7 iron). Maybe it's just in the game improvement range. I remember that Callaway even as far back as 2014 and the X2Hot, had a 7 iron being about 30 degrees...

There is a reason for higher lofts on game improvement irons. One of the main issues with higher handicap golfers is just getting the ball airborne. Rarely if ever do I see high handicappers playing forged gamers irons because they cannot get the ball in the air. While repositioning weights lower helps with getting the ball airborne it comes with a price, distance. Also, creating hollow bodies affects things. You really do not see anyone jacking lofts on forged blades, or at least I have not. So yes game improvement irons have stronger lofts. This helps bring down the ball flight, a little offset to the weights, it’s all give and take. With forged blades that tend to have a more boring trajectory, spin is so critical. Not so much on game improvement irons. What we look for there is descent angle which most game improvement irons provide. The ball off a game improvement iron that comes into the green at 45-50 degrees will hold a green very well. While blades often come in lower and are more dependent on spin to hold a green, or to back the ball up on short shots, more workability for better players. It is an engineering thing. For amateur high handicappers they can get the ball in the air and maintain some distance. Yes, put these game improvement irons in a low handicappers hands and they hit them for miles. But, are these game improvement irons really aimed at them? Due to my age I recently switched to Callaway Rogue ST Pros AW thru 6 iron, Rogue max in the 5 and 6. To me it feels good to hit a 7 iron 155-160 yards again even if it’s a stronger loft I can now hang better with the big boys hitting forged 8 irons that far. Over the years my forged clubs have gone way down in distance and it has become harder to get the airborne. I was barely getting 140 out of a 7 iron. I just believe it’s so nice to have so many options on irons to fit/improve your game from game improvement to blades and everything in between. To help enjoy the game more. They all have a purpose and a reason. See your fitter for sure.

I was visiting my favorite shop when the Cobra rep came in wih these very clubs and i git to try them on the sim. I loved them straight-away. Wish i could have bought a set, Next time.
I got fitted a couple weeks ago for irons . After trying several I narrowed it between these and the Mizuno hot metals. I found very similar issues. I hit both about the same distance even though the Mizuno loft was 29 and this was 26.5. Launch angle, height and descent angle were better with the Mizuno and that’s what I ended up ordering. Also with graphite shafts price was about the same.
Nise vid thanks, i wonder if it´s time for manufactures to just stop marking silly numbers on the iron, and just go for the loft the iron have, like 23, 27, 31,35 and so one, then the consumer buy the loft he need, and put some hybr or/and fairw and thats it !! that´s fair for the consumer !! Don't get hung up on the number on the club. If you can reach the green with this 7 iron when you'd normally have to reach for a 6, then it's going to be flying at a similar height and dropping at a similar angle. If it flies further then it can't also fly as high and spin the same.
The one thing that I noticed is you still had a decent angle of 42 which with a spin number of 5200 they should still be able to hold a green decently. Though yes I would like to see one or the other higher but still with average consumer of these irons they would only hit about twenty percent of the greens. About ten percent over 150 I don’t think they would notice this.
Recreational golfers don't really care what irons look like as long as the price is right and they perform. My opinion they could be in my bag except I like 5and 6 hybrid instead of traditional mid irons.
I think game improvement irons should be about feel and forgiveness, not stronger lofts/distance. Most of the avg golfers I see, especially my age, are not playing irons past 175 yds. If we r being honest. I am much more confident in my strike with my Mizuno hybrid at 175 yds than with a 5 iron. Then it is 7 and 5 wood up to driver. If manufacturers would focus on iron feel + increased moi (as they have in drivers last 5 yrs) then it may be worth changing up. Maybe these Cobras are getting there. I hope Hannah is back with a smile and sunshine.
Which set of irons would you recommend for a high handicapper between these Cobra LTDX's and the Taylor Made Sim2 Max? They are both on sale for the same price here.
I picked up a set of Wilson staff CB with R300 Dynamic Gold as second set to my Srixon 585s. Wilson 7 iron is 34 degrees loft and Srixon 31. I've tried a set of modern game improvement low lofted irons with more offset, and I found them hard to hit, and the sole is too thick mostly for turf interaction. I would rather suffer some mishits with a better players irons or mid-player irons. Height and spin works best for me to stick it on greens. To each his own.
I tried these vs other game improvement irons and I was getting 5-10m more distance and better ball speed…whether they want to stop on the green I guess I’ll found out when I get to play them
Andy not to disagree but you tested the Mizuno 225 and at 30 degree loft on a 7 here is your comparison. carry launch spin Cobra LTDX 166.4 16.5 5027 Mizuno 225 162.3 15.7 4977 So the LXTD at 27.5 actually launched higher than the 225. Tech is amazing huh.
I've been using the cobra f9 one length irons similar to the these but I'm finding they fly way too far now Had 8 irons flying 180 odd yards way too often now sounds great but then next shot I can do prep much same swing and they go 150
The 180 when wanting 150 is triple bogey hole or worse. The ball is lost over the green or in water. I completely understand. Distance consistency is what I want all day long. I am happy with an 8 iron going 140-145. consistently. The guys I play with are older, and they don't even think distance anymore. But they play good golf.

I think with this type of iron you need to see a bigger picture at custom fit than you will get just by trying a 7-iron - do you really need more than a 6-iron, and how much feel do you get with short irons for pitching and chipping?
26,5° 7iron!?🤯 27° is my 5 iron🤷🏻♂️ Have clubs, for every 12-14yards . What are the gaps (in yards), on these clubs... beginning with a 50 or 52° gap-wedge🤷🏻♂️
Umm, sorry but a low trajectory is not always bad. I played a course today for the first time and I quickly learner to hit low runners as a high shot meant 🌲. It was tight & narrow. Suddenly I missed having my 3/4 iron in the bag. A tree lined 300 Metre par 4 becomes a beast if you cannot keep it under the branches.
I love my Cobra one-length Ltdx irons. I have no launch issues, and the feel is incredible.

My King Tour are 33 in the 7 iron. They have decent distance with that loft but spin a lot

forged tec are a club stronger but fall flight is great, 5 iron a get nice height from the whole set. no problems holding a green with a 5 iron

i have regular graphite shafts in them and they get plenty of trjectory. The KBS shafts are stiffer in steel regular
shafts.

How high you want a 7 iron with that loft to fly? I don’t see an issue on that chart for me with that club.

Had 8 irons flying 180 odd yards way too often now sounds great but then next shot I can do prep much same swing and they go 150
The 180 when wanting 150 is triple bogey hole or worse. The ball is lost over the green or in water. I completely understand. Distance consistency is what I want all day long. I am happy with an 8 iron going 140-145. consistently. The guys I play with are older, and they don't even think distance anymore. But they play good golf.
@@tomb9658 had it happen way too much was about 130 from a green today flushed a pw and it flew 20 yards over 😳 its almost like being punished for hitting it well
I think with this type of iron you need to see a bigger picture at custom fit than you will get just by trying a 7-iron - do you really need more than a 6-iron, and how much feel do you get with short irons for pitching and chipping?

I have strong lofted clubs but my 5 irons is 23.5 degrees like the LTD’s 6 iron 😂

Why wouldn't you hit balls onto a green with a 7i and show how the balls reacts on impact.
Umm, sorry but a low trajectory is not always bad. I played a course today for the first time and I quickly learner to hit low runners as a high shot meant 🌲. It was tight & narrow. Suddenly I missed having my 3/4 iron in the bag. A tree lined 300 Metre par 4 becomes a beast if you cannot keep it under the branches.
I’m not sure the idea of reviewing a golf club’s performance would be based on being able to play shots under branches?
