3:33 if you read further, the up-to-date sales number for Tropical Freeze is double what you said.
Within less than a year, the Switch version outsold the Wii U version. 60 dollars isn't going to stop people from buying it. Most people probably can't tell these are old games.

They’re definitely not. You’re not taking the full picture into account here.
-DK is a main character in the Mario movie
-DK has his own theme park in development that’s almost the same size as Mario’s.
-DK has his own Lego sets
    -Mario vs DK remake
    -and now the DKCR port.
They’re not scared of DK. They’re trying to actively and safely boost his marketing appeal. There is absolutely a new DK game in development. It’s sad it won’t be on switch, but a new one is coming.

Here's the thing, though, these re-releases aren't targeted towards us, their targeted at the people who never grew up with these games. The reason 8 /U Deluxe sold so well was because to most people, it was a new game, ones that also fixes the problems with the previous versions. Same can be said about 2 HD, Most casuals that know Luigi's Mansion, played only 3 which had nothing to do with the title besides being a sequel, so having the prequel also on there brings more audience into series. There doing the same thing with DK with how much their pushing him with the movie, theme park, and merchandise, and like Warioware, Nintendo refuses to let this die.

@@fishyperil2153 No, they use game sales to gauge interest. They use remasters to pump out a cheap and easy product to make a fast buck and then turn around and continuously ignore the franchise because it doesn't meet some arbitrary sales goal.
Also it's kind of insulting to have that kind of response when Nintendo 100% botched ReBoot camp's release by delaying the gaem "indefinitely" having zero news on it for over a year, then shadow dropping it a year and a half later. The sales weren't caused due to "lack of interest in the title" the bad sales were due to nintendo's botched attempt at seeming "sensitive to world events" and convincing everyone that the game was just outright cancelled. I guarantee that a lot of people don't even know that it actually got released still.
If any company says "you need to support this product to get this other product that you actually want" everyone's reaction should be to NOT buy what they're selling because thats garbage, manipulative business model that should actually be illegal. And no, Advance wars failed because nintendo delayed it for a year and a half and then basically shadowdropped it with little to no advertising. The game had zero chance.
Also, "testing market viability" with games is a bull excuse for companies to guilt people into supporting things they don't want with the vague promise of that they might get something they do want later. It shouldn't be done. If anything it should be illegal. Especially since in the case of Reboot camp, Nintendo were the ones that 100% failed the franchise there. Not the fans. Donkey Kong is more alive now than he was for a majority of the 2010’s lmao
He got a major role in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, even bigger than Luigi or Toad in it, along with a massive marketing push with Donkey Kong toys as apart of the Movie’s branding.
Jakks Pacific even put out large scale Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong figures for the first time ever, as apart of their own dedicated toy line! All because of the boom in popularity following the movie!
Furthermore, Donkey Kong is getting his OWN ENTIRE THEME PARK as apart of Universal Studios. Which cannot be said for Zelda, Splatoon, or any other IP besides Mario. And it’s entirely based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, which is why this HD port is releasing in early 2025. So when people visit the park, they are familar with locations such as the Golden Temple and DK’s Treehouse, because they saw them in the Returns port on Nintendo Switch months beforehand.
Let’s not forget that there’s also the remake of Mario Versus Donkey Kong, bringing the old rivalry back with brand new stages and boss fights, making for a perfect reintroduction to Nintendo’s two most iconic characters, especially for a new generation of kids who only know the characters from the Movie, or Mario Kart.
I could go on about the Donkey Kong LEGO sets, the Mario Rabbids DLC campaign starring Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong characters appearing in Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but you get the point.
Donkey Kong is not dead, or dying. It is actively growing, in a way not seen in over a decade.

But in all seriousness, it’s game “series” (calling it a series is a bit of a stretch) made by the company Brownie Brown, or 1UP Studios as it’s known today, and published by Nintendo. There are two games in the series, being Magical Vacation and Magical Starsign. One was released on GBA, the other on the DS. The games themselves are turn based RPGs with a bit tactical grid-based combat sort of similar to Mega Man Battle Network but also very different. The art style is very similar to that of the Mana series, as the share the same art director. The series itself has little recognition here in the west, only Starsign was every released over here and it pretty much a commercial failure. The series has lied dormant since Starsign’s release in 2007 and it doesn’t seem likely that the series will be revived any time in the near future. It’s unfortunate because they’re actually really fun games with great gameplay and surprisingly compelling stories. It’s really a shame they weren’t more successful. But I guess there’s nothing we can do about it now.

And if the original Luigi’s Mansion were available on the Switch (be it bundled in or stand alone), I’d probably get 2 at that price too as I’d then have the entire trilogy on one console. But as it stands, the most recent version of it is on the 3DS, and so if I were to want to play through all the games, then since I’m already bringing the 3DS into play I might as well just stick with the original LM2.

Inflation has zero to do with the increased prices of rehashed games... they're old games with next to zero work put into them since their initial release. They could port them at half the price and not lose out on money. Inflation takes into account the increased cost of manpower and other supplies/services, none of which has much of a presence in rehashing old games (even if they are "HD" remasters). They're not increased for the heck of it and then labeled as "inflation".
You can make any financial decision you like, obviously, but people using inflation as the logic for rereleasing old games at the full price of a current game are bonkers.

    3. Remasters have generally been well made (not buggy) and maintained (faithful to originals)
    4. You can wait till price drops or buy used physical copies
    5. Remasters cost less than buying the original games and hardware
    6. Remasters have helped Switch stay relevant and add value to the console while Nintendo can concentrate on releasing stable polished new titles

I understand being disappointed about the remaster and potential price, but DK was one of the best aspects of the Mario movie. Nintendo wouldn't have let dk have such a big role if they were actively trying to kill the franchise. Retro made the last 2 dk games and have shown that they're the studio that understands dk the best after Rare. Every time anyone else tries to make a DK game, it gets cancelled because of quality concerns. Retro is making Metroid prime 4, maybe after that they can work on a new DK. But I don't see how remastering one of dk best games is a bad thing. It's obvious that the switch 2 is coming soon and Nintendo is mostly remastering fan favorites to hold us over until the switch 2 drops. But DK literally just dropped Mario vs dk. Before that tropical freeze. There are more main line dk games on the switch than there are on the GameCube. The wait between DK64 and dkc returns was actually longer than 10 yrs and took 2 console generations. Why make a new DK when nobody bought the wiiu and one of the best dk games was stuck on the wiiu? Tropical freeze on the switch is technically a new release since the wiiu was a flop and nobody played it on there. To most gamers tropical freeze switch was a new game. I have co workers who are legit hyped for dkc returns because they didn't play it when it first released because the Wii was honestly kind of dead after 09. But it's obvious the switch 2 is coming so Nintendo is either making smaller scale titles like Mario and Luigi or a 2d Zelda, or fan favorite remasters. No need to assume they're killing off dk when we haven't had a star fox release since 2017 and that game was botched. I'd be jumping for joy if Nintendo was remastering star fox 64. I think you just got too emotional about the whole thing rather than thinking rationally about it. Happens to the best of us

I dont look at the price-tag, just the value of the game. DKC tbh isnt my cup of tea so it wont be on my list, but Luigis Mansion 2 I have bought because as a kid I loved it and I wanted to play it again without the uncomfort of the 3ds

Yes!! My frustration here! I've been working through the retro games with my little dudes, and naturally on the SNES they fell in love with the Donkey Kong experience. I've been slowing walking it up, as far as gaming and systems, but the only game left is "Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze" and some nice guy named Alex who did a hack on the old DK games and breathed new life in them. I was astounded this guy named Alex and his game was the closest new thing to a DK game. I was certainly hopeful seeing DK and some crew in the Mario movie. They make so many crappy run off games from movies, to not at least put in a drop of elbow grease and get us a fun DK game...just baffled. Good to hear I'm not alone.

Inflation doesn't really matter on it's own, though. The cost of living in the 80s was FAR cheaper than it was in the 2000s, which was even cheaper than it is now. Simple inflation means nothing without the context of cost of living. Paying $60 for a game now is far more of a hit to the wallet than it was in the 80s. Heck, paying $100 for a game in the 90s hurts half as bad as paying $50 for a game nowadays.

Nintendo is mistreating Donkey Kong. Instead of making a new game in the Donkey Kong Country series, preferably with the long-awaited return of King K. Rool and the Kremlings, they re-release Donkey Kong Country Returns, a divisive game with disappointing replacement villains, which had already been re-released in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS. If I were running the DKC franchise, not only would I be giving the series the aforementioned new game with the return of King K. Rool and the Kremlings, but I'd also have Jakks-Pacific give the DKC characters new action figures, particularly Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, King K. Rool, Klump, and Krusha. I saw a hypothetical wave of those figures on Reddit and was very impressed with them, saying I would buy them if they were real.

What a bizarre and totally inept argument. Price is based off of whatever they want it to be. Nintendo releases these games because of one reason, whether it makes sense to us or not ☝️ simply because they sell! Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, after all the criticism it received, still became the number one selling game in both Japan and the United Kingdom! You can complain as much as you want, but Nintendo is definitely not killing Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong County Returns HD will undoubtedly sell enough units and become successful, regardless of whether you buy it or not, and Nintendo surely has plans going forward with that IP. I love Donkey Kong County Returns, I bought it for the Wii, loved the 3DS version, and its extra levels. Now, I will enjoy it in HD in the coming year and will have a wonderful time, no questions asked. Nintendo knows these games sell, and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is a perfect example of this.

Plus unlike Tropical Freeze, Returns has been getting a lot of Love lately(Lego set, Mario movie, DK expansion), so when you really think about it, it makes sense that we would get the game that all this stuff is based on.

    • @jesusvillicana6276
      @jesusvillicana6276 20 днів тому +1

@Mymy_64 is very true, plus many gamers, especially children who are ages from about eight to ten, will probably have their first exposure with Donkey Kong County Returns. Nintendo knows their audience, which is the reason they'll always sell their respective games at full price since they, of course, recognize the value in the games they develop, especially within the time frame of the release date. I'm sure the theme park will attract plenty of customers to the game and will sell a few millions because of it, and Tropical Freeze will probably get a boost in sales also, and Nintendo still have the Donkey Kong Land trilogy they've yet to release on NSO putting them on a position where they can hold of their release in order to propel the DK IP and increase the popularity to New heights all within the next year. Quite the opposite to killing it, Nintendo literally saved Donkey Kong, regardless of what anybody says, but don't just take my word for it. We'll let the number of sales do the talking 👌

Just because someone can doesn't mean they should. Pricing out people is not a good move, morally, or long term through business logic. You're alienating people by making sure they have no option to buy the game. This is only going to increase piracy.

    • @sarkaztik3228
      @sarkaztik3228 19 днів тому

You can be a crazy Nintendo fan if you want, but a rerelease of an old game isn't going to be "successful" like a new game is. Also, your language is entirely deceptive. There's a difference between "becoming the number one selling game" (which it isn't, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is) and "being at the top of the sales list this week in an incredibly slow period of game releases" (which it currently is).
The sales numbers for Luigi Mansion 2 HD remake, while being number 1 CURRENTLY, for this week, is still an an incredibly small number in sales (88,425) Freaking Animal Crossing: New Horizons, sold 4 years ago, made 10% of LM2HD's sale this same week. Time will tell whether the release is TRULY successful or not, but when the top three selling games of the week include a 4 year old game and a 7 year old game... using that as a point of success is a bit unreliable.

Nintendo's main market comes from the 18-30 year old range, and like I said technically 60 dollars is cheaper than the 70 dollar industry standard now but I still think Nintendo is missing out on money and exposure by not making these games cheaper. When I was a kid my parents and family members would buy me Wii games like Mario Galaxy but only because they would eventually go on sale!! Nintendo is missing an entire group of people that would buy their games here
