Oh my. I decided to rewatch this series after having watched the latest Lakewood video from about a month ago, and it's amazing to see the start if this again now that it's a such a huge city. Especially your excitement at the possibilities of getting all the way out to those smaller island. Ah, I've missed Lakewood.
+Madame Traffic Jam it's crazy to think about how far things have come along since this episode was released. Not just with the city, but with the channel in general. It's been quite the journey! I definitely need to get the whole mod situation sorted out and get back into making more episodes for Lakewood. I miss this place! Hope things are good on your end! Thanks for the comment :)
Just discovered your series and starting to follow this build from the beginning. It is great to find someone intelligent and articulate who can communicate at a level that does not include profanity in every sentence or who thinks they are some hilarious wacky "dude". I find your presentation style relaxed informative and understated. Thanks for taking time to put this series together. I look forward to catching up by OD'ing on episodes in a weekend marathon or two.
The quality of your content is astounding. Informative, CALM, entertaining and pretty damn funny! Thank you for all the uploads, and keep doing what'cha do. (doing it right)
+TOvlogs Great to be aboard! Also thanks for taking out the time to reply to my comment, I bet you get loads of 'em to sift through and I appreciate it lots
I've really been enjoying this game and have picked up a lot of useful tips on your UA-cam videos. Looking forward to seeing more of this let's play series, keep up the good work.
I'm brand new to city building games, and after my first foray into the game I realized quickly ... I needed help. I really enjoy your videos, as they are very informative and helpful. Thanks so much!
Dude, your videos are so awesome! I was excited to play this game, but now, when I am watching your videos, I am seriously super excited to play! Hahaha, you make it look so easy! I'll just watch a couple of more and then try building my city! :D I guess your banter is what makes it so fun to watch! Keep us entertained mate... you're an excellent teacher!
Yay!!! Left hand drive. Another Australian pleased to see a left hand drive city... yes I too have wondered why Canada is not left hand too. Looking forward to watching your UK city unfold - love your vids. Have 'liked' ... and remember small is good too... quality over quantity!
Man, you have the best 'lets play' CS: Skylines. Keep up the good work! You should have more views, i hope your channel grows really big with Skylines.
Cheers from Scotland,,Thanks for your guidance on the layout of the roads.Being watching alot of vids on this game, yours is the best so far.. Keep up the great work.
I don't understand how you're so relaxed when you play this game. I get so frustrated on how I want to build my city in the beginning and I want it to look perfect.
discovered your channel yesterday because of your 'How to Grow& Manage a Small City' series and with this you earned a Sub and another like ;) keep going
der comtor the eventual goal is to be doing daily uploads, but I'm just trying to juggle quite a few things right now, so for the moment probably 2-3 a week. BUT, my classes will be done for the summer in about a months time, so I'll have plenty of more time soon to make content :)
Absolutely love your videos, Will. The tutorials were great and I'm diving into your LP's. You're phenomenal at thus game. I seem to keep running into money issues after a bit.
+Elizabeth L. well thanks for letting me know! I appreciate that :) If you're still running into money issues, you can always adjust the slider bars for some of your services, and then when it's available, don't forget to bump up your tax rate! Happy building :)
You have a soothing commentary voice. I enjoy watching your playthroughs. I am trying to improve how I set up cities so I can eventually reach the larger city content.
+Lizzlemmon thanks for the nice comment :) Hopefully I can be of some help to you! I am working on some newer series currently for the game as this one is missing some DLC and upgrades - still a lot of fun though!
Mirko T No problem! Glad you enjoyed it! I'll definitely be showing off the other cities here and there. I'm hoping to use them to make little mini series for common problems, and then just focus on the Let's Play for progression. I'll be done school for the summer in about a months time, so I'll hopefully be able to make a lot more content! Greetings from Canada, thanks for the support :)
I wish you luck für your graduation! And don't make the same mistake like in your bigger city with the cargostation in the industrialzone. Sry for my bad english, hopefully you understand me ;)
Mirko T Yea I think I'll be moving the cargo station a little bit further out on it's own, just to help with traffic. And I wish I was graduating, but it's just a summer break, I still have a few more years to go, but it's going to be nice to have some time off. Your English isn't bad, no problem understanding you at all :)
Wow +TOvlogs .. im loving your tutorial.. ive just watched this episode and im going to try to replicate your success. Well done and keep doing what you're doing. Thanks a lot!
Hihi, you keep sayin sims when you talk about the people sometimes at least in this episode. So funny that it's so hard to wash it off. So happy I found your channel, I'm hooked, thanks!!! :))
You're the Bob Ross of Skylines. Just another happy little bridge... ;) A good name for a city with King in it, Kings Town, or as it is more commonly named "Kingston" (where I live). There's actually quite a few cities in Canada and the United States named Kingston. ;)
***** my uncle lives in Kingston, we seem to be crazy about names that have a regal sound to them here in Canada. Not that I have a problem with that or anything, I think it's actually pretty neat that we sorta have a monarchy.
I got this game the other day and I feel like a pro already, (I've only watched this episode XD) but I really like your play style as well, good work mate keep it up, this my sound weird but I love your voice XD
Going to check out more of the series. I was completely convinced that the AI was bugged for Schools and Healthcare. Yours seems to be panned out maybe I was just expanding/building too quickly with dense residential zoning. Helped a bit with road ideas as well I can't stand grids yet didn't realize one ways were so helpful.
This looks better than SimCity. I've been a fan of the SimCity series but wasn't very happy with the last one and got bored pretty fast. I'm tempted to buy Skylines after watching a few videos :)
+Huldra fra Nord this is the game we all wished that Simcity would become. You won't regret buying this game, I guarantee you of that! Just be prepared to shut yourself off from the world for the first week of playing, you'll be so consumed!! In a good way :)
I recommend placing a one way road from your residential area to your industrial area so that the morning commutes don't interfere with the truck traffic.
So I was following your first series with the Great Plains map ... The one you lost when switching hard drives or something --- well I had finished the series and was starting to build on my own I was just starting my downtown section and then my saved file was corrupted .... And I only had one save (yea I know stupid). But now gonna follow this one!
SilentGames Aww shucks!! Thanks! I actually am not going to be using any mods for this series, it's going to stay vanilla. BUT I will definitely be doing a modded series later on down the road. I'm not opposed to introducing mods later on though, especially if there's one that would be really really helpful if we're in a bind, but I think we'll just play it by ear.
TOvlogs I think selfmade parking lots are very usefull, cuz you can put it beside your mainroads where u dont want to build and with some entertainment accumulation you dont need to build parks at your industrial zone, although too much would be kinda cheating. ...I wish you will tell us some more about the subway, even though i have built some, but i think its still not ideal. ...i hope my english is okay ^^ edit: i chose the same map btw :P it'll looks great, when all the small islands will be full of buildings =)
Tim Cartel good call! Those I might have to look into.. Seems weird that they aren't in the game. I'll try to remember to go a bit more in depth about subways when I eventually place them in the LP series :)
TOvlogs Tim Cartel - Someone recently released a 3-level parking garage that has 64 parking spots... probably one of the greatest assets you can add into the game for you busy cities!! Check it out!
Hey, Great videos and I'm pretty much hooked after the first video! I want to ask you a question, what city service would you go for first and why? I think Fire Station, then police then education. However no matter which building I place I end up with either to many criminals, overload of ill people or constant fires. I find it difficult to manage all three without getting into debt. Please Help!
Btw if i may complain just a little bit, i noticed since i use headphones, that your mic makes a little bit of a backround noise. Anyway awsome vid as always! Big thumbs up
There's a town in Ohio called "Kings Mills". So the local municipalities are referred to as Kings, e.g. Kings High School, Kings Fire Dpt. etc. But, there's a theme park there called Kings Island, and seeing as this is the Islands map... I dunno where I'm going with that. But it's food for thought! Also, calling the city just "Kings" would be cool, because then when anyone refers to it, it's "The City of Kings".
Kevin Macku yea we've got a King City just north of us. Always thought it was a cool name for a place. I think I'll name one of the high density areas the Kings, has a nice ring to it!
i really like your tutorial gameplay........and I'm getting ready to do my city exactly like yours........because I hate spending tons of time trying to figure out just how to plan ahead.......I really hate building a beautiful city only to have to tear down most of it because the streets are all fucked up with traffic and shit.
I currently have a city with 32k+ people, 90% happiness all around, and a good mix of farming and forestry so low pollution, but I might just start over because traffic is kind of congested in some areas and I actually kind of like the feeling of starting a small town compared to maintaining a large city.
epicman786 I want to suggest to you SimCity 4. Great game with a lot of land to work on, and no DRM like most games coming out today. Though, roads are limited to 8 directions and they can't pass over each other like Cities Skylines.
You have the voice and diction of a previous professor of mine. Are you by chance a teacher/prof? I really enjoy your play style - with each upload I get to vicariously enjoy the game. :)
TylersTerrain I am not a teacher, simply a student. Perhaps if I impress my professors enough they'd offer me a teaching position, lol. Honestly though, I am glad you're enjoying these :)
Hey, I just found your channel and I love these videos. I just got cities skylines. First time playing a game like this and you cleared so many questions in like one video, without even trying :D Why do you not have a twitter so I can tweet nice things to you? haha Thanks a lot mate!
+Vkay69 hey! Glad you found me :) Yea this game can be a bit intimidating when you're first starting out! Happy to be of help! Oh and I do a twitter - @ImperialJedi :)
Niklas Beick I'll be rebuilding certain areas to accommodate higher traffic volumes when the city gets larger. I find that this layout generally gets me to 40K people without too many traffic headaches. But I kinda wanna tackle that stuff together :)
In my personal opinion, I think the 4 lane roads are a bit excessive for just starting out. I recommend upgrading later on if the need arises. You could've saved a couple 1000 dollars by building the roads smaller.
You're like the third person I'm watching for this game's LP. It's so interesting watching different people's vision of their own city, but you all share one thing in common. It's the whole grid-like street. lol No one likes it. I find that interesting.
+crimson2knight I think where each UA-camr lives has a bit to play, I find that since I live over in North America I can't help but build cities and layouts that feel familiar to me. I do try to mix things up a bit though :) I do honestly love the little differences between everybody though. Always nice to see someone be creative and have fun at the same time :)
Hello, I am a real Urban Planner. And I will be Evaluating your city on each video. Now keep in mind that this is not meant to be an insult or mean in any way, just thought it'd be fun to evaluate your beautiful work at a planning standpoint.
TOvlogs I got the name from one of my favorite racing games ._. However, that's what I would do. I just wish I had the game. Too bad I don't have enough money in the world to buy everything I want. Waiting for steam sale of this game, and 'The Crew'
This reminds me of TheoTown, where you build your own pipes, power lines, and Ect. It's very close and accurate though, but TheoTown is in 8 Bit, and doesn't have the same mechanics as City Skylines. still fun.
have you tried any of the workshop maps? there are some really cool ones. i think the vanilla maps are good for starting out with the game, and the costum maps are just a little but more fun.
***** I haven't tried anything from the community yet, I'm definitely planning on it though!. I think eventually I'll also dive into the asset editor myself and make some nifty things :)
+PandaGamer Zone START OUT SMALL! SMALL SMALL SMALL! The way I do it (I'm not great at all) is I pretty much don't even think about making a city, I start by thinking 'what would this small village/town look like' and I just keep it small, only expanding to follow demand, only spending to keep up whatever the city urgently needs, and make sure you keep an eye on your budgets! how much water you're actually using for a small town might be a lot less than you're pumping, so put the budget down for that etc. I hope this helps a little, sorry if it doesn't, it's 6:AM here! :P
a good strategy is to build slowly and only when they demand. also manage good traffic flow that's extremely important. it just takes practice I was kind of bad at first too. UA-cam is a great tool hope this helped a little bit.
Maybe its not your cup of tea but what I like doing in this game is traffic management imo its most fun. disabling vehicle despawning. managing airports, buses, trams, trains and boats is also alot fun. and try create interesting cities rather than grids .
Lovely video i can't sub yet because i subbed to like 500 people and without categories in youtube everything is cluttered but ill remember to come back later.
bit stuck on landfills. If I place my landfill by my industrial it seems to be affecting my citizen's health even if it's far away from residential. How much should I be isolating landfills?
Joel Garman you can always build a service road that's a few hundred meters away from everything - it could have it's own highway access or just be on a long road away from everything. You can also relocate your power plants over to there as well, or just really anything that's a heavy polluter. Just keep an eye on service coverage and you might need a fire station close by just in case.
Mack Jabroni the buildings will pass power onto the their neighbour, you just need to supply the power initially and keep a line or two to keep larger zones powered. Thanks for the support :)
Erin Howarth not per say, but just keep an eye on the RCI demand bars at the bottom and try not to let one surge way higher than the others, for me I just try to make little zones at a time just to see how it will affect the others :)
I just got the base game, but I don't have most of the options he has like the overlays for building roads and the little pointers. Is he using mods or the expansions?
Jason Colbeck 99% of the time it's traffic related. I'll do it so that the "front" of the building is facing the street I want and so that I can keep vehicles from going up those sides streets. Also I'll do it so that traffic doesn't have to take the long way around to get in or out of a certain building as well in case I've got a lot of one-way streets in the area. Hope this makes sense :)
Holy moly, so this is the biggest Cities: Skylines playlist out there!
+angrysyndicate what's crazy is that it's still kinda on the go too!
@@ImperialJedi when are you gonna continue it?

Absolutely love your videos, Will. The tutorials were great and I'm diving into your LP's. You're phenomenal at thus game. I seem to keep running into money issues after a bit.
*this
+Elizabeth L. well thanks for letting me know! I appreciate that :)
If you're still running into money issues, you can always adjust the slider bars for some of your services, and then when it's available, don't forget to bump up your tax rate!
Happy building :)

TylersTerrain I am not a teacher, simply a student. Perhaps if I impress my professors enough they'd offer me a teaching position, lol. Honestly though, I am glad you're enjoying these :)
Hey, I just found your channel and I love these videos. I just got cities skylines. First time playing a game like this and you cleared so many questions in like one video, without even trying :D Why do you not have a twitter so I can tweet nice things to you? haha
Thanks a lot mate!
+Vkay69 hey! Glad you found me :)
Yea this game can be a bit intimidating when you're first starting out! Happy to be of help!
Oh and I do a twitter - @ImperialJedi :)
TOvlogs Perfect! you just got a new follower :D
Great awesome vid as always ;)
Great Video! Left sub and like :) Just one note: don't forget about the 'future' traffic. It could get really bad :D
Niklas Beick I'll be rebuilding certain areas to accommodate higher traffic volumes when the city gets larger. I find that this layout generally gets me to 40K people without too many traffic headaches. But I kinda wanna tackle that stuff together :)
TOvlogs I'm sure you will! Looking forward to it :)
Thanks again for an awesome video .
Simeon Ladopoulos no problem, glad you enjoyed it!
By far the best cities LP out there C:
Jesper Vines well thanks for saying so :)
In my personal opinion, I think the 4 lane roads are a bit excessive for just starting out. I recommend upgrading later on if the need arises. You could've saved a couple 1000 dollars by building the roads smaller.
many thanks for the start up,,, UK
Watching this video makes my inner love of symmetry cry. Nice city, though
YES PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE!!!!
Jake Sharpe haha, you got it!
2:02 That 3 road intersection will cause lots of traffic buildup. Especially considering the fact it's off of the highway.
Disregard this message. I just realised that you used that to make a symmetrical angle.
I do try to mix things up a bit though :)
I do honestly love the little differences between everybody though.
Your roads remind me of hot wheels tracks lol
In the future, would you consider building parks and connecting pedestrian paths with zones to create some green districts?
Ibrahim Yalcinoglu great idea!
Pressed the like Butten before watching :p
theoneandonlyLTM much love
Good vids bro. Reps to Toronto!
Name it Rosewood, name the industrial area Camden, and when you get a large downtown area, name that Rockport.
CobobS12 oh I like Rockport! The other names ain't so bad either :)
TOvlogs I got the name from one of my favorite racing games ._. However, that's what I would do. I just wish I had the game.
Too bad I don't have enough money in the world to buy everything I want.
Waiting for steam sale of this game, and 'The Crew'
I really liked this video!
efe eyüboğlu thanks, I appreciate that :)
I'm just watching this video for ideas and inspiration. I'm making a map of my own city for my story.
This reminds me of TheoTown, where you build your own pipes, power lines, and Ect. It's very close and accurate though, but TheoTown is in 8 Bit, and doesn't have the same mechanics as City Skylines. still fun.
Digging it man. Subbed.
pukkoku thanks, welcome aboard!
have you tried any of the workshop maps? there are some really cool ones. i think the vanilla maps are good for starting out with the game, and the costum maps are just a little but more fun.
***** I haven't tried anything from the community yet, I'm definitely planning on it though!. I think eventually I'll also dive into the asset editor myself and make some nifty things :)
TOvlogs looking forward to it!
tried to build 5 cities already, they all failed, i can't spend less and make more money, just can't i'm so bad at this.
TheNastyBAGL i already did a big city, but the game is boring, and it doesn't have a lot to do on cities so i gave up
Maybe its not your cup of tea but what I like doing in this game is traffic management imo its most fun. disabling vehicle despawning. managing airports, buses, trams, trains and boats is also alot fun. and try create interesting cities rather than grids .
Anarchy91 hum, i already stoped playin this, it gets borin very fast because there`s not enough content in the game in my opinion
Coin in the Loin? That's where we're keepin' it ehh?
"Yeah, your total is $10.60"
*Digs around in pants.*
Not sure how you're pullin' that off dude :P
EricIsAverage Eric I
Hopefully you can teach me how to play this game properly. Keep going!
Youre the bob Ross of cities skylines. With a little bit of the fake door salesman from interdimensional cable
Lovely video i can't sub yet because i subbed to like 500 people and without categories in youtube everything is cluttered but ill remember to come back later.
came back?
Tecta Krabaj yes
kballwoof00 excellent
How do I get rid of the urge to pan and zoom around in these videos?!
(nice series!)
purf plays haha I know what you mean, I feel like that sometimes when I'm editing :)
bit stuck on landfills.
How did your buildings maintain power with only one power line tower connecting them?(btw love the vids)
Mack Jabroni the buildings will pass power onto the their neighbour, you just need to supply the power initially and keep a line or two to keep larger zones powered.
Thanks for the support :)
Lakewood is just a default name. Definitely change it. :)
gangreneday I think I'm stuck with that now... But I do usually name my cities after the district name.
*Entertaining video*
Awesome video.
I've been hearing what sounds like muffled horror movie music. It kinda goes in and out, but i heard some around 9:35.
Or rather 9:30
Awesome help thanks
+Just Chilling no problemo!
Is there a suggested ratio of residential, commercial and industrial zones?
Erin Howarth not per say, but just keep an eye on the RCI demand bars at the bottom and try not to let one surge way higher than the others, for me I just try to make little zones at a time just to see how it will affect the others :)
I just got the base game, but I don't have most of the options he has like the overlays for building roads and the little pointers. Is he using mods or the expansions?
Can I ask why you stop so many zones 1 square short of the roads?
Jason Colbeck 99% of the time it's traffic related. I'll do it so that the "front" of the building is facing the street I want and so that I can keep vehicles from going up those sides streets. Also I'll do it so that traffic doesn't have to take the long way around to get in or out of a certain building as well in case I've got a lot of one-way streets in the area.
Hope this makes sense :)
+TOvlogs You should do a Gaming Setup video.
epicman786 what would you want to see me setup?
No like a preview of your gaming setup/workstation.
I hope you don't mind I don't copy :D I love your vids!
