When referencing Elliott's rock band Heatmiser, they mistakenly circled the wrong person when mentioning his co-vocalist/guitarist Neil Gust. There may have been other things, but that was the one i noticed and pointed out. It's cool they bothered to fix it. Most wouldn't have.
I listen to this album religiously. So amazing and criminally underrated, should be up there with Sgt Pepper’s and Pet Sounds. Love u Elliott, thanks for everything 💜💜
@@curly_wyn That's a ridiculous statement. Writing and then playing intricate guitar arrangements while singing perfectly at the same time, often 2 to 3 times over in a complete take straight to tape is not 'ridiculously easy' and there has never been an artist since Elliott that has achieved that sound to such a high standard. Period.
My very first introduction to Elliott Smith and it just blew me away. I then bought all his other albums up to that point and became a fan ever since. RIP
Rose Parade is about being forced by friends to take a part in "happy" event, when you are depressed and feel like shit, literally unable to feel happy. It's not anti-capitalist lol
@ayeayeayeist No, there is nothing in those lyrics that point to capitalism or ant-capitalism. The song is very open about it being about Elliot's depression and misery. I say this as a massive Elliot Smith fan who's listened to this album countless times
Do you know of any places where he talks about that? Ik he studied philosophy but i swear I’ve looked thru tons of interviews and haven’t found any where he gets to talk about it much
Pictures of Me is about being sick of having to act extrovert, but you know...this is Pitchfork and everything has to be interpreted about the 'media.' Pitchfork, aka The Rolling Stone 2.0

It is not true that Miss Misery is an outtake from Either/Or. He did however record an early version of Miss Misery a few months after recording Either/Or, but that version is significantly different from the one that ended up in Good Will Hunting.

Yeah rose parade is about being high on drugs (opiates) and miserable and forced to fake pretend you're okay when you're out at a parade with your friends. It's about depression and drug use it has less then nothing to do with capitalism

either/or is a great album but if you consider it to be elliott smiths best album then you don't fully understand why he is and always will be a genius because he's so much more than the 'sad, melancholic, break-up album dude'
Well obviously Elliott Smith was an intellectual, so he must've hidden deeper meanings in his lyrics. "Throwing out candy that looks like money" was obviously a stab at the U.S.'s lackadaisical demeanor towards capitalism, and it's so-called democratic standings......this was meant as sarcasm, but now it sounds like someone smart could've said it, rather than me. ANTI-CAPITALIST!!!!! COMMIE!!! 9/11!!!! HOLIDAY TERRORISM!!!! MEDIA!! THE CHURCH!!! yeah. someone smart....
This album seriously changed my life, Elliott is one of my favorite songwriters of all time.
Hence the profile picture ;^)
@@versnellingspookie and he still hasn’t changed it
Probably my favourite album, along with ‘Begin’ by The Millennium

Dude. Props to you guys for having the integrity to fix your mistake and re-upload. Seriously, most folks wouldn't bother. Thank you.
HanQuixote What mistake did they fix?

HanQuixote Yeah its pretty cool of them. Nice to see videos of him coming up to the 20th anniversary
Elliot’s shirt game was always on point
I 💔 metal was my fave.
@@jacobsims8307 mine was his bocephus shirt.
One of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. Right up there with McCartney, Elton John, Paul Simon, Lisdsay Buckingham...
Lynn Turman yes I completely agree, it’s a shame he isn’t as big, but than again he didn’t want to be famous
Agreed, but just so you know, Elton John didn’t write his own lyrics. Bernie taupin wrote all of his songs.
Either/Or is the best record ever put to tape I swear to God.
@@dylandarcy1150 1000% Pink Moon!
Yea if its wasn’t for Nick Drake, I’d agree. Elliott is still amazing tho.
He was heavily influenced by the Beatles during the recording of EVERY album.
Yes, and Big Star
Yeah, he loved the Beatles
And little one

Beautiful record from a beautiful human being

One of the best albums ever one of the best artists ever
We love ya Elliot. His talent for doubling his vocal and guitar is insanely difficult to pull off.
It's not really difficult at all
I know right, how could he sing AND play guitar while he was singing and playing guitar at the same time?
It’s extremely easy to pull off. He’s not special.

King Cobra to you there may not be but to others there can be. That’s the beauty of music
I agree
Why didn't you include the fact that the album was heavily influenced by Soren Kierkegaard's book of the same name? Seems like a bit of an oversight.
Cuz humans sadly make mistake
Cuz he had 5 minutes to cover a lot of material and explaining existentialism takes a little time.
Wow didn't even know that
Do you know of any places where he talks about that? Ik he studied philosophy but i swear I’ve looked thru tons of interviews and haven’t found any where he gets to talk about it much
Apparently not, when any casual fan like you can just find that factoid on the Internet.
Nice that this was re-uploaded on the 20th anniversary :)

Interesting how his biggest hit back then now has 10x less popularity than between the bars
Great album with great lyrics and vocals. My favorite song of his is instrumental, though ("Kiwi Maddog 20/20").
I was 3 and a half months old when this album was released.
Right now my favs are Figure Eight and New Moon.... though I do love either/or...
You guys left out how Smith named the album after a book by Kierkegaard. Seriously, how did you miss this?
It's Pitchfork, enough reason inna nutshell buddy!
