Dude, the U.S.S. Cerritos is like that 30 year old battle ship in the military, one that's still being used and yet is run down and constantly needs to be fixed up. It's essentially the ship where those who qualified to be in star fleet, but were essentially not worthy of going onto any other ship were essentially forced there. Hell, the Captain alone is a perfect example of this where her entire mindset is copying more successful captains and treating her crew like crap just to look better.

How often has the holodeck been the root of the problem for a star trek series now? It's probably the second to fourth most dangerous room in the entire ship, and it's used as a dang toy.
Re watching this and had a thought. If you simulated a warp core and then disabled the safety protocols could there be a core breach in the holodeck? So after a huge anti-matter explosion the investigators are like: “Well they were doing an engineering SIMULATION and the safety protocols malfunctioned.” Maybe they shouldn’t use the holodeck for engineering simulations.
Despite me really enjoying this ep... I realize the absurdity of the situation (not in the way you think)... if they had to divert power from non-essential systems (which is a thing) they wouldn't just sap power for holodeck safeties... they would straight up turn off the Holodeck itself too... but the gag was just too fun to pass up

Well if you think about it holodecks malefunctioning was always kind of a thing in star trek and there was also that one rouge murderous hologram in voyager that killed his whole crew then lied about it and tried to kill b'elanna only this time its a starfleet hologram that goes all psychotic murderer well then again there also was that equinox emh i guess you could also count him in that. And of course the rouge holograms the hirogen made with starfleet holodeck tech trough except for their leader i think they only really fought for self preservation(trough they got swiped with when he made is revenge plan on the hirogen)
Badgey is a problem that ought to have the ship' Chief Engineer (Although there should be Chief Computer Engineer/Technician) hands all over it in five minutes. If it is that bad (i.e. Moriarty) then YES the Captain should b told without fail. Star Trek frequently treats self-inflicted threats to the ship and crew like you kid accidentally breaking a drinking glass and never bothers to tell the parents, just cleaning it up and moving on. Badgey has to potential to be HAL 9000 if left alone, and the season finale does not convince me Badgey is gone.

Ultraman619 well their dynamic is a more dorky and friendship oriented than mariner and the other guy whose just a stick in the mud. They have better chemistry and aren’t always the center of trouble when things go bad.

The safety protocols aren't powered separately, they're a setting which is linked into the holodeck itself. That be like your computer shutting down all non-essential systems so it turns off your PC's fans.
