Hi. I started out bobinating a very long time ago. Gave it up. Have been using floss away bags since the 70’S. Keep them in cookie tins. I also use the index cards. I put sceins on one side loose threads on the other. Thanks for sharing.
For me the bobbins in the plastic boxes is the way to go especially for projects that have lots of colors. I put the numbers on them and put them in order (if it’s a kit) that saves me so much time lol. I dislike the thread cards that have the threads just hanging from them because I always get tangles haha
When I start a cross stitch project, I use a scissors & metal threader that I string on a long piece of ribbon that I wear around my neck. Always accessible. 😺
Hello, thank you for the different ideas on storing my floss. I am getting up there on the amount I have , also I needed ideas on how to keep my floss together for my bigger projects so, Thanks again.for the video 😊😊😊
A very informative and friendly face! You did a great job telling about your method. Every day I say I am going to organize my floss. It is out of control!!! You have given me some motivation to do something with it all.
Thank you so much for this awesome video. I am new to needlework but have been crocheting for over 40 years and love all of the ideas for storage as I have limited space to do so. Love Caterpillar Cross Stitch
Man I wish you would have done this a year ago! I've gone through several different ways to keep my floss! I do use the snack bags but with the closure on the top! I too use the FQS Cross Stitch journal, for me it's a game changer. When I started stitiching just over a year ago, I had stuff everywhere, the journal has helped to me at least know what I'm working on. Thank you again for the helpful tips, can't wait to reorganize my floss again.
Hello from Dallas. I’ve been looking for this information all over UA-cam and finally found you! Thank you, I can finally find a way to make my projects organized.
Hi Erin, i did your method but have them in small plastic boxes from Dollar Tree and have file cards dividing every 100 so i can see it from the front, etc. I have lots of bobbinated bobbins that I also put them in the baggies so everything is together....As you said...its super easy to find the floss you need.
I am organizing my floss right now and I chose to use the floss bags, then attach them to a file folder (trimmed and hole-punched) in the order in the DMC catalogue. I put them all in a Sterilite file box. I have a separate box for Fancy Floss. I’m just very worried about buying floss for a project when I already have the color, but I just don’t realize it. I enjoyed your video! I also use a combination of fabric project bags and the plastic ones from Amazon. Happy Stitching!
The scissors! Hahahaha - yes! I am currently using one - and I am always looking for them because I change projects I am working on constantly. Why haven't I thought of just getting more?? :) Just getting into watching flosstube, so a little late to the party and your video here. ;)
I use the floss away bags to store my floss. I also fold an index card and place it in the bag after writing the number on the card. So I get ready to kit up a project I just pull the bag and place on ring. Just a thought. Liked your video.
I love this method. I checked out snack bags years ago but didnt like the zipper on top, lol. Never even thought to look again. Love the portion control bags. Walmart has them too. Very inexpensive. I think I will start setting them up for my Classic Colorworks first. Then the DMC (I have almost all of them). I will stick the bobbin into the bag to though. Slowly working them out of stock. They are inexpensive enough to set them up for each project too. Love it. Thank you.
Hi, enjoyed your organization of your floss. I use clear bags as well. I find that this method words well for me. I’m also keeping a cross stitch journal as well because if you post a finished project on Facebook someone is going to question you about your project and it makes a quick answer to their question. Enjoy your day! 😊
I don’t know if it helps but you actually have a nice cross stitch store in Arnold Pa just about 20 miles NE of Pittsburgh.....pretty much straight up RT 28. I used to live in the neighboring town and went there often. She also has some evening stitching once a month and the group of ladies are awesome and meet other places near there also frequently...I know some of the ladies are from south of Pittsburgh. It’s called Country Counter. Not sure what her hours are now tho. I’m lucky to live outside of Cleveland now and you know the great places that are near here😁. She also does framing, will order anything and has lots of fabrics, threads, notions, and patterns. It’s all cross stitch. Like a little smaller Crafty Ewe. Great video by the way!
This is awesome!! Maybe the steel City Stitchers will take a group trip there and check it out. Thank you! I so wish we lived closer to the crafty ewe.... Thanks for watching!
I use the bobbins for storage as well I do like the snack bag idea as well because no matter how many times I look through my floss I don't lose the color tags or they start looking like a messy knot.
Good video, and great presentation. I use the storage methods you mentioned and work well, except the cloth storage bags. I personally do not think they are functional, especially the ones without a clear side. I like seeing what’s inside a bag by not having to unzip the bag every single time.
I use floss bags with a 3x5 card like that. I keep them in boxes that they fit exactly. When I pull them for a project I keep those in a plastic container
I have the same system but I put my threads into wooden boxes that the threads in the snack bags and they fit perfectly and works perfectly for me and I have 4 boxes for my threads and I do have a lot of threads for my cross stitching, I just wish I could attach photos of my system
I use the plastic Flossie's to bobbin. I use a Plano double sided tackle box to store my Flossie's. I have been doing this for years. I do like the mesh storage bags from Amazon. I would rather use my money for charts, floss, and fabric . I use gallon storage bags for storage.
For me since I tend to buy for project then theme my next project around the floss left over my stash stays kind of small and i just have a handful of bobbins in my photo organizer for scrapbooking since I have small photo boxes it all tends to stay in one photo box. Though I also tend to buy pre made kits and rarely do my own made stuff
Floss thread I’m new to still learning. Where can I find link or book see what each color is if it’s not got number on it. Also the floss on the holder it have number on it how do you know that’s the right number. Also trying find better way organize thread and bobbins
How do you kit bobbins? They’re so inconvenient. I was given 4 boxes of floss, on bobbins (I hate hate hate them), but great gift. I gave away 2 complete sets of skeins in 06 thinking I was done with CS. Where do I find the floss bags? I like that idea. Hope you see this and respond. Thanks, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, thank you so much for watching 😊 I think all your questions might be answered in our updated floss storage video here: ua-cam.com/video/9ZWwJZoY9U0/v-deo.html - including how to make DIY floss bags. Any further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know 😊
Very nice video. I wish this was available a year ago. I have bobbinated all my DMC and find they curl up when I stitch. What is a simple method to unbobbinate them and convert them into the zipper bags? Thanks again. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I would imagine to unbobbin them and put them in the plastic bags would actually help with that, actually. I think it's amazing that you have them all on bobbins!! That's a very long, tedious process in and of itself.
4:04 Even when designing, I wouldn't recommend sorting the skeins by color. Why? Because if you're a designer, you'll have the color charts sold by the brand you use, which are already sorted by color; and there you can see the number and go to your storage by number directly.
I'm new to cross stitch so forgive if this is a silly question but what is the process you go through when you open up a new skein? Do you simply unravel the amount you need, cut it, separate it and then put it back in the baggie? Then you use the part for your project and then the remaining strands from that cut are loose in the bag? Thanks for your input!
I have been thinking about how to word this for a week but I think I'm overthinking how to respond... I usually cut off a piece of what I'm using at that moment, use the 6 strands and then cut another piece. My bags while I'm stitching can be a bit sloppy but all together in a bag which is nice.
I have been using the floss bobbins for years and it has always worked for me. I keep them in a double sided Plano box and take out what I need for project and put in smaller box. My extra skins are stored in the interlocking stack containers by numbers (100 's in box 200's in next box etc.), these interlock on top of each other ,then I shop from these when I need more of one colorworks. Also to make bobbins easy readable I cut the number off the skein and tape it to my bobbin. Great video and I understand about not having LNS close, the nearest on to me is about 4-5 hours away
Hello from Dallas. Am I a freak that I just need to bobbin everything up before I can even embroider another color? I just hate the idea of starting a project without every color ready to go. Yeah, I’m prolly a freak. Sigh
Great question! I think the card helps them stand up better in the drawer. It gets a little sloppy without it. So glad you like it!! Good luck organizing!
For myself, I will never use bobbins again! It leaves permanent bend in the thread and, to my mind, raises the question of weak spots in the floss. Since 1977, I have either use acid - free cardboard, punched 3/4-inch holes and arranged the floss by DMC colors, or using thread drops. I have significant arthritis in my hands and always stitch in hand. Using a hoop causes too much drag on my wrists and fingers. I also put my thread minder on whatever clothing I'm wearing, not on the Aida itself.
I just can’t seem to look away from your beautiful necklace! The scissors tip is genius!🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽
Thank you!

Thanks for the helpful tips. I'm in the process of storing my floss. I did buy the big ring and the floss-away bags. Thanks again!!
You're welcome! I'm happy you enjoyed it!
Thank you! Just starting embroidery and was overwhelmed on how to organize supplies. Love your suggestions and your manner of presentation.
I did it! I followed your tutorial and I LOVE your method Erin.

I use a lanyard for my scissors 😍
I changed over to the floss bags. It's allowed the threads to relax. I just had too many crimps and kinks from my floss being on bobbins.

What colour is your fabric for Bloom & Grow? It looks fab! I'm tempted to use a darker colour!
Sorry I'm not too sure what colour Erin has used, but I say go for it with a darker colour!
Thanks for the video. How do you organize your collection of patterns and how do you keep track of them to avoid duplication of purchases? Thanks
You could use an A4 folder with plastic wallets.

Hello From North Carolina 🪡🧵🕊
For scissors I stick a magnet on them (not permanently) and then they stay with whatever project I’m currently stitching.

I truly hate bobbins and like your system. I’m transitioning my storage also.
The problem with the bobbin system is that the floss gets very crinkly.
Thank you for your feedback!
I just throw the bobbins in the correct numbered bag. And use off the bobbins first
I like your scissor suggestion
