It made my heart sing when I saw Cheryl's tackle box. My aunt stored her DMC the same way, and I now have that tackle box (with all her floss) and use it with almost every project.
I do, too, Laura. I have my mom's floss tackle box and my own that she gifted me with about 40 years ago. I love the double sided one that Cheryl has - my 2 are singles. When I combined mine with my mom's I found that we didn't do a very good job of checking our "inventory" and have multiples of many colors!
I store DMC in the Bisley storage drawers. I ordered the Pip and Chip Bobbins to set in a full drawer unit. I store all my CCW on a large ring hanging them on a IKEA peg board system. Cosmo is stored in clear drawer cases. One of the best purchases I have made are the Aurifil Thread Cases. I own all the variegated colors and these I store in a clear plastic box. I have a video on my instragram on thread storage. Love my pattern filing system in a rolling file cabinet purchased from Container store. Wool threads stored on clothes pins.. Love a huge thread wall but realized I will never use all the colors. Ever. Love organization.
Thank you so much. I am in need of more organizational ideas. All my cross stitch is in my bedroom because all my quilting is in my craft room and kitchen. I'm all over the place...
I have the white cabinets from HL - but use them for quilting fabric storage - I may have to get another one & some of the acrylic dividers for my cross stitch stash!
Thx Kimberly! I’ve returned to stitching after a 28 year hiatus… and my storage “system” is in flux! 🥴 I definitely like to have a stash, but not a huge one! Happy stitching!
Thanks so much for all the great ideas for storing my cross stitch items. I like the acrylic boxes and the plastic bags. I’m not sure which one i will use. I already have 4 of your stackable acrylic draws with floss in them …they are fabulous. I may just order more of those. I liked the magazine holder idea for my patterns. As always your sharing of stitchy stuff is past kind!!! I appreciate all you do and your staff at Fat Quarter Shop!! Hugs
Thank you for showing these systems of organization. I am a sewist, knitter, and cross stitcher, and I can see how these systems would work for all of my crafts. I love this!!!
OMG ! I"m too old for this! I've never had all those fabrics to stitch on but definitely had all the threads! No boxes, though- just the plastic bags hooked on the huge rings! At 66, I'm not sure my eyes have the time left to use all that stuff. Glad y'all have got it! I'd love to try those silk threads!
I like seeing how the DMC is organized. A color card is so smart. I have a TON of DMC in a big pile in a drawer. A spreadsheet of colors is such a great idea too - it must be the accountant in you, Kimberly.
I love the clear containers for the drawers! I have a cabinet that I store my patterns and fabrics in and most are kitted with the floss waiting on me to stitch them. I like your method of the floss inventory so I need to get started! Thank you for another great video! ❤️
Hi Kimberly, I hope you are enjoying your family vacation 💖 I received my beautiful purchase yesterday full of Lori Holt fabrics for her quilts I plan to make and several of her stitch cards, floss to get me back into cross stitch. 💜💖💜 Today’s video was perfect timing for me as I forgot a bunch of helpful items you spoke of in the video. ☺️ Thank you so much for helping this old timer back into a beautiful hobby I have always loved. 👏🥰👏 Chris-Raleigh NC
I like the spreadsheet idea. I actually just started that with what I have for quilting and was going to use it also for cross stitch. Love the tackle box idea, that is what I use for some of my sewing items that is what my dad got me to store my stuff in. Love the video
This was so much fun! I love how everyone you featured does their storage just a little bit different. Like Kimberly always says, there is more than one way to do it. YOU DO YOU.
I love this video and all of these fantastic ideas it helps so much! I think the small cabinets from the container store is really all I would need right now as just returning to stitching in Feb! I have quite a bit already but it may fit nicely in those! Thanks so much💕
I have just started reorganizing my DMC floss. I have had them in small zip lock bags that I made about 35 years ago and decided those bags were getting grungy. My husband has put about 12 inches board on my sewing room wall … six of them right now. They have decorative screws on them. So far, 15 in all. I am rebagging my floss using bags from Walmart. They have square bags that are 3x3, I think. I put a sticky label on the outside and a paper on the inside with the numbers. Then I am putting them on large rings that can then hang on the boards my husband made me. Right now I am on number 700! My attention span isn’t very good, so I don’t do lots in a day! Enjoyed your video!
What is it about the words “organization” and any of the following (cross stitch/craft room/quilting room sewing room) that makes me automatically click to watch? Like a moth to a flame.
So happy! I am Rewatching your great organizing videos to inspired me for this coming Labor Day weekend! I just purchased the HL drawer cabinet: JUST like you and Lori! I found it in Great Falls, MT Hobby Lobby in a corner in the store after searching on numerous visits before! I do store my precious Xstitch items similar to Cheryl- my DMC wound on tabs in a drawer customized by my Jim to hold the floss tabs like Cheryl has…since 1985 or so :-). I will have a blast organizing my recent purchases/updates due to my renewed interest in cross-stitch this year thanks to Kimberly and Lori! Thank you, thank you!
I also have the two large drawers from hobby lobby that you showed in the beginning but they’re black. I used them for embroidery thread when I had an Etsy shop for kids applique clothing but I’m not doing that anymore. Thanks for the great ideas❤️
Thank you, Kimberly. Your video was full of so many ideas...the first of which is that I can make much better use of the space in my craft room/spare bedroom if I would just get ride of extraneous stuff!
So nice to see that I store my dmc like Cheryl, in a tackle box. Now to figure out my new floss from weeks dye works. That’s for the great video. I think the plastic bins will work in my IKEA storage. Thank you ladies for the great ideas.
I am really enjoying these organization videos. For years I tried to organize my DMC and I finally did a couple months ago and they're overflowing in 5 boxes.
Thank goodness for Flosstube and Quilt tube and Crochet tube, with all 'like minds' getting giddy with all the color goodness, organization wonderfulness, collecting, displaying...none of my friends or family ever ask me about my craft room, what I am working on, want to see or look, or care...kind of sad in a way, when I always ask about their lives...I guess for them, it's just a hobby, and not important, even though they know it is an important part of my life. Fine... they all get a Staples Gift Card for Christmas!
Thank you for showing how different people store their floss. I have the same tackle box Cheryl uses! I got it a million years ago when I exclusively used DMC. (ok, it was probably 20 years ago, but who's counting?) I hated the color, but LOVE how it stores the floss so perfectly. Now that I have ventured (dove head first) into the world of overdyed floss I'm struggling to find something that works perfectly for me. I also struggle with whether to keep floss by manufacturer (so it's easier to find when I get a pattern) or colorway (so it's easier for me to pick my own colors) I've decided to do a hybrid. I have a drawer for each manufacturer and the color families on a floss ring. So, if I need a blue, I can pull out the blue floss rings from my classic colorworks, weeks, etc. drawers and choose what I need. If I need CC Deep Blue Sea, I go right to my classic colorworks drawer and pull it from the blue ring. I also keep a floss ring with partially used floss. I go to that ring first to see if I have any on them instead of starting a new skein. It works great with my floss bitties as well as the cards from the manufacturer.
I like the idea of the 6 drawer little cabinet to store small patterns and accessories...tis always great to see how other stitchers store there stash :)
Great video! I think I want to get that narrow white drawer set I saw at HL. The 1 you're using. It would be ideal for my home & decor. I have DMC dating back to the 1970s crammed into large zip locks & this just isn't working anymore!! I hv floss for shadow work embroidery & smocking & now cross stitch. I've got to get it better organized! Loved all the awesome ideas! Thanks!!
My system is like Cheryl’s, except if I bought CCW floss in a floss pack ( like the seasonal ones put together of Priscilla‘s choices) I keep them together
I found an old accounting file which held people’s bills, etc. it holds my small patterns perfectly. I use tackle boxes with bobbins for my floss and the antique vases with flower frogs for scissors and one I made a pin cushion.
My husband bought me one of those cabinets for Mother's Day, knocked my sock off, didn't think he was paying attention. Anyway the great news about these cabinets apart from what Kimberly said, is that if they are shipped to you, they are shipped in one piece, no putting together, no putting feet on them, just set them up and start filling those drawers.
Just starting out and want to get organized from the start ( for a change!). Can you tell me where you found those terrific acrylic boxes? Thanks for all the good ideas!
I’m just wondering if there is a tackle box out there like that now. I love it. Thanks for these ideas. I showed my husband the chest at HL and thought it would be great for storage. He chuckled. Next thing I know a lot of you bought it. Now he realizes that it wasn’t a silly idea after all.🤦🏼🤣🧵🪡💕
Love this video!! I use the stack and store containers too. Nice to see different ideas. Is there a link for the turquoise box from Container Store? Thank you 😊💓
I love your floss organization! Nice system. Thank you for sharing where you got your storage items. I believe that the link that you shared for the clear plastic drawer organizer boxes are for the 9 inch size. I assume that the longer drawer organizer at the back is a 12 inch size. Hi Sharon, it is a floss brand to stitch with!

Cross Stitch and Embroidery. The Aurifil floss comes on a wooden spool and that’s so nice. No organization. Just use.
