    Thanks for this. MY Ford focus was giving out a hissing sound. Turns out it was this hose which had collapsed and had a big hole.

    great vid, I was able to swap out hoses w/o removing parts , but it was because I knew what to look for !razor was needed to remove rear connector.Seriously helpful!

    Thanks for the video. Found it was far easier to attack this from below; didn't even have to jack up the car. I did need a razor to cut off the old hose. Took me a total of about 15-20 minutes.

    Great detail. Thank you. As a test I put a tougher, smaller hose inside the collapsed hose as a stint. Works awesome! At least I know the pcv valve itself works fine. If it was shot, I would have to go all in.

      Also, the collapsed hose was causing the pressure in the engine to push oil out right over the exhaust manifold. After 10 minutes of driving it would smell pretty harsh haha

    Ugh... I didn't need to replace rear hose (shielded hose)... 90° boot that the PCV valve connects to was all that needed to be replaced. Took off my thermostat housing - didn't need to. Make sure that you need to rip everything apart before you take it that far. The 90° PCV connector is sold separately from the rigid pipe that connects to the rear (shielded) hose. Hope that helps someone out there.

    Great video,,I had just replaced the thermostat on my son's car. Wish I had watched this video before!! I would have swapped the pvc valve and hose out at that time.
    Also has some commented about getting to the hose from underneath might be an option.

    I didn't replace my pcv because I didn't want 2 damage the 90°hose altho I don't have any of the described blowback problems.still, I don't like pumping oily sludge back n2 my intake either.thought about disconnecting it all 2gether.tho I hear capping it w/a filter will cause a lean problem & probably bad mileage or ruin catalytic converter. idk? What do u think?

      I'd have to research it, but if capping it would cause those problems I definitely wouldn't go that way.

    It is not seen how you placed the tube and the valve, that is suspense.

    Seriously helpful! Thank you for posting this. My only question is how did you manage to remove the original clamp connecting the hose to the back of the engine? One tough cookie.

    • @jakebarnes9880
      @jakebarnes9880  8 років тому

      +Seth Browder It's been so long ago now I don't recall. I remember it being harder to get it back on than taking it off.

      when I did mine, it was a few yrs ago.. yeah, it doesnt want to come free... think I used needle nosed pliers on it and twisted back and forth till it snapped..be careful to Not damage the plastic intake manifold or its nipple under that hose...I used a standard mini C clamp that could be tightened with a screwdriver so that future repairs would be easier... why doesnt ford think this way?

    did you get a new metal piece or clean out the old one?

    • @jakebarnes9880

      Which metal piece? The PCV valve? I bought a new one.

    Maybe I didn't look good enough but I looked 4 vids about the pcv system 4 my zetec & couldn't find Em but, looks like maybe ur valve cover gasket might be leaking? I might of replaced. my thermostat housing Unnecessarily The plastic connector 4 my heater core hose was cracked so I thought it was the thermo= wrong! my exhaust was a little loud 4 a day so after adjusting it, I developed a miss & assumed my coilpack was going bad.Wrong! false code 4 catalytic conv.so I tightened exhaust, problem solved tho,after I had allready ordered a new coilpack.anyways. iv learned 2 use my scan tool when possible & not 2 assume.almost every part is New on my car is new now & I refuse 2 trust & pay a shop 2 destroy my car.maybe we can help each other.

      D.j. B Well you can't just go to any shop with any guys (or girls) in there. Gotta find somebody who really likes your manufacturer. That's the best way to go in Can/US.

    will this cure rough idle or rough cold start ?

    • @jakebarnes9880
      @jakebarnes9880  7 років тому

      I suppose it could, though I'd look for other causes first. But a PCV valve is an inexpensive fix, so if you haven't replaced it, it can't hurt. I suspected the valve because I was leaking oil and the check engine light was showing a code indicating a mass air flow meter problem. The PCV's job is to regulate air flow pressure. When it gets clogged from sludge, gaskets and oil seals start to fail. Also, without it carrying air flow, sludge continues to build up. The check engine codes often show up as O2 sensors or mass air flow sensor problems. Sometimes you'll also hear a whistling or whining sound when your valve is bad.

      aaron shirley could u have bad motor mount or trany mount? a dirty Iac valve causes stalling & rough idle=clean it with brake cleaner..

    Thank you for the informative video! Where did you purchase the hose from? When I went to pick up the "elbow hose" from the auto parts store I only left with elbow connectors.

    • @jakebarnes9880
      @jakebarnes9880  8 років тому

      +Kelly Hanus I got it at a regular auto parts store--Advance Auto Parts or O'Reilly's.
