Answering your last question- its because they wanted to retain volume control at the app. If it was a normal rotary knob its physical relative position could differ from its actual setting.
The 10" woofer on the 3 series had a 2.5" voice coil crossed at 2.5 kHz, while the new 4 series has a 2" voice coil crossed at 2k. (TS3 went down to 54hZ, TS4 down to 57 hZ) The TS410 is also slightly larger by about 1/2 inch. The new app might be handy for some folks s well. Unity is achieved with the volume knob all the way up (5 O'Clock position) for the appropriate source.
Great overview - thanks! Just FYI, "unity" has no real meaning for a power amp. Unity means the signal passes through unamplified - so that shouldn't really be a concern for powered speakers.
they made the bluetooth volume nob a rotary control so you can adjust the bluetooth volume without jumping from whatever the phone set it for, to the volume of the nob. otherwise it might go from loud to quiet or vice-versa abruptly
Thanks for this info,i have to bring this up for people who own older alto speakers and planning to buy the new TS4 series, the volume of TS4 is very low and you have to crank it up all tthe way to the max to get the volume you need,i have an old TS110A which only 300watts that is louder than my TS408,i was kinda surprised when i first test the 408,at 12 o clock position,it has zero to minimal volume while my old TS110,it's super loud at 12 o clock!
Great video. I have a pair of TS310's, which are great speakers. My only (very small) complaint is the limited EQ, when I use it as a single speaker with a digital piano, and I need to add an EQ pedal to get the sound I want. Other than that, the TS310 is great. The TS410, if the custom EQ is easy to operate through their app, might be a nice upgrade.
I have two EV 15" speakers and needed a couple more to cover a wider area. I tried two TS415s and was shocked by how low the gain range is (line level). I have to keep the knob maxed and they still aren't as loud as my EVs at mid-gain settings. 🤷🏼♂️ Im not dogging on them, just a bit perplexed.

What do you think of the Alto TS410 in general? I've ordered an Alto TS415, but also thinking about getting a smaller one for the occasions where i dont want/need to bring the 15 to places. Is the 410 fairly loud? It says 130db peak and 127db continuous, however it's hard to know how loud it is until you hear it for yourself. How would you judge its loudness and sound quality compared to other PA speakers? And can two different sizes (e.g. 415 and 410) be linked up via the app via bluetooth? Great video btw.
In general, it's a good speaker. Loud and clear. I'd use it for an audience of about 50 people. Maybe even a bit more than that. Compared to speakers in a similar price range, I think Alto wins. Mackie might have better bass response, but Alto delivers clean overall. In theory, you should be able to link different sizes, but I wouldn't recommend it, unless its a case where a ts415 is for the audience, and ts410 is the monitor for the performer. Thank you
