the two of them are having a friendly sparring match on the hand of Rhalger, actually with in the main story quest. this little moment is eluded to when she asks you, the main character, if you would have an exhibition match with her. so the male monk is you the player. its nice little nod to the expansion trailer, which I always watch right after I accept the quest.

The Monk and Samurai dudes are the same person, just different Jobs. Monk is the job for the Pugilist, a DPS Class. You can be a Pugilist from the get-go, but to be a Monk, you'd have to be a lvl 30 Pugilist and do the quest Job for it to unlock the Job. Samurai is a DPS Class Job. It doesn't require a base class (like Gladiator, Pugilist or any starter class), but it does require one of the classes you possess to be at least level 50. Both Samurai & Pugilist/Monk share the same armor set (except for some armors exclusive to the Class/Job), and also they share the same accessories with other Melee DPS classes like Lancer/Dragoon and Rogue/Ninja. The place the Monk and the girl are at is called Rhalgr's Reach, inside a territory that once belonged to a fellow city-state of Eorzea called Ala Mhigo that fell to the Garlemald Empire about 20 years prior, which ruled the region that's called Gyr Abania. As for the Japanese town you see (it's not Chinese), it's called Kugane, the only port city of the isolationist archipelago nation of Hingashi that're open to foreigners. They're kinda like Japan during the rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate, where they don't really accept foreigners, except for one location, Dejima, an artificial island just off-coast of the city of Nagasaki. Meanwhile, for the underwater palace that you saw, is called as the Shisui of the Violent Tides. It's a reference to the infamous underwater palace in Japanese tales, known as the Ryugu-jo, or the Dragon Palace Castle.

First comment on your videos after watching them for a while. Great reactions man, keep up the good work! The environments in FFXIV are pretty versatile depending on the culture of the area itself. Stormblood as an expansion was very oriental oriented in general as they moved east on the map. The leopard skin wearing guy is the same guy as the samurai guy later in the video. And he is present in all the other trailers as well, always donning the armor of the poster job of the expansion. And if you have not yet seen them then you should absolutely check out the Star Wars: The Old Republic trailers! A good order to watch them would be: Return, Hope, Deceived, Sacrifice and Betrayed.

Thus far in the trailers I've seen him as an axe weilder/ berserker style, dragoon armor style, and now fighter and samurai style. Can't wait to see more of them. Thanks for recommending the Star Wars videos, I love Star Wars so much but my knowledge of their games have been very limited to the console ones only. One thing I love about FFXIV is that the world is only just getting bigger and more is being introduced as you go, new friends and allies, new places to go, so much to do!
Yeah I heard, and with all these expansions and extra content added; I mean they wouldn't do that if there wasn't a demand for it so that is a testament to the quality of the game as well as it's audience!

Personally I've always felt that, when compared to the others, the Stormblood cinematic is the shortest one and the least impressive but that's mainly cuz the dev team felt that the Heavensward was too specific (and even used the wrong model for the dragons) and thus this one is far more "generic" as to not give the story away. The main theme of Stormblood is that of revolution and reclaiming the City state of Ala Mhigo (first part with the Monk fight) and the City State of Doma (second part in the Japanese inspired city with the Samurai) as for the "chinese atlantis" that's just to showcase the main new feature introduced to the game with Stormblood: swiming and diving. Once you're done with Shadowbringers (which is for the upcoming expantion) you should give a try the Dissidia cinematics, they're also full of crazy awesomeness, all of them

Stormblood was a great expansion, it's basically a fight for Freedom of its people that were suffering because the Garleam Empire had control over them in a dictator form. That was also the first time where you experienced true defeat as the main hero of the show more than once. The person who ruled over those lands was too strong, even for you. You got humiliated by him 2 or 3 times through the story, until you managed to beat him in the end. Seeing the Warrior of Light on his knees while he watch the city burn and people die was heartbreaking. Freeing them at the end was awesome. I still prefer Heavensward because it was much darker and sad. Having to defend Ishgard against the horde of wyverns and Nighogg itself while you were trying to clear your name of the false acusations that made you flee to ishgard as a desertor was much better, haha. Btw, the Monk guy who fights the red girl at the beginning, and the Samurai guy are the same warrior from previous trailers. In heavensward he transition from Warrior to Dragoon, then in stormblood he goes Monk at the beginning and then Samurai later on. You can see that he appears much older as a Samurai, since many years has passed since Flames of Truth. You gonna get a big surprise with the Shadowbringers trailer, it was a mindblow even for someone who are waiting the expansion to play in 2months. He also look even older.

This story seems to get better and better with each expansion and I gotta say, what an epic journey this character is on (or rather that the players are on). This is what FF is all about in my opinion, the grandeur story filled with twists and turns but ultimately displaying the clash between good and evil (often times not so easily distinguishable). Ok so, first of all watch out, spoilers ahead. Second, I don’t claim to be an expert, so I’m going off what I can remember feel free to correct me At the beginning of the trailer, I believe the guy is actually the warrior of light (a lot of people call him derplander, including me, for reasons, but yea he represents you in the story, but isn’t actually you) the lady he is training was actually in flames of truth with the people kneeling at the blue light, she was next to a smol man and had a mask on. In the story it is revealed that her name is lyse. She comes from ala migo, which is where they were training (they were in an area of ala migo it was rhalgars reach, named after the guy made out of stone I think). There are 2 new areas in storm blood, othard, and kugane. Othard contains a bunchhhhh Of places. The place that had the underwater China, is called the ruby sea, cus it’s a sea. And kugane is the place with the big tower where the samurai stuff happened The samurai guy I also believe is the warrior of light, again. As a samurai. The two people we see after the big eagle are yugiri and the other guy I don’t remember the name of (gosetsu? I think ). They come into the story in stormblood. The next expansion is shadowbringers, which I recommend you watch, it’s really confusing if you haven’t seen the story before but still really Badass.

The job system is such a key part of the FF franchise and I'm glad to see it being use the way it is being used here. Can't wait to see more, this has definitely got us hyped :)
On this one is Abit different than b heavensward we were part of the system trying to change it from within on stormblood we are the resistance ..... Yeah like a reversal Our mision is to free the land from the opresion of the garlean empire It's a great story it is also the first time we get owned badly by the bad guys xD the whole team fights the main bad guy and we kinda get beaten it is awesome xD
That is cool how all these version are such different story line. Like you said one is resistance, to other you're a force for change; I'm guessing Flames of Truth was about survival against insurmountable odds. I can't wait to see what Shadowbringer will be about. A plotline where you lose is definitely one that is intriguing. I'll definitely have to read up on the lore for these. Thanks Jos!
