Mordecai is the oddball on this list. Everyone else failed due to being bad to horrible in the ring whereas Mordecai failed due to getting sued from a bar fight. Something the boys did all the time back in the day. He should've been an honorable mention at most. It's not like it was a lack of in ring work or his character that caused him to fail. If he hadn't gotten fired, he probably would've gotten more over than he was at the time. He seemed pretty over to me anyway and quite a few people in the comments here agree.
Yeah, Fertig isn't that bad in the ring. Problem is he has a natural ability to create characters, but doesn't quite have the storytelling ability in the ring. A character like Mordecai, you have to guide the audience, pause to build up suspense, pay off the pause with a big move. HBK and Taker are masters at pacing things like that. Fertig is good, just not at THAT level.
Fans didn't like Khali 🤔 I seem to remember he was loved as a face hated as a heel 🤔 yeah I think you missed the point of being a heel and face in wrestling
That and claiming Roman got any skill...yeah, no. Even that McGee-guy seems better, but dunno about him and Nathan Jones, tho the short segment of the latter looked like Roman Reigns trying to shoulder bock somebody. Tho I guess Wrestlelamia also thinks Hogan has any wrestling skill, when he's only slightly better than Roman...but Hulky had a load of charisma at least, and that was all that mattered back then in the USA. Safe for Zeus and Giant Gonzalez, the rest tho are all leaps and bounds above Roman(well, Khali only a bit, and worse than Corbin, but the big man had charisma) and also better than Corbin, tho Corbin at least periodically improves himself. Tho Luther Reigns and Corbin might be a bit close. Roman tho? That guy doesn't even know how to due a proper Headlock...
I remember Khali only for one thing. He had something with Shawn Michaels and took him out. Then he appeared on stage as some kind of hero that was never defeated.
@@Kaldin0203 Reigns is average in ring and i generally have no interest in his matches but man, it has been a very long time since i read such a ridiculously exaggerated claim : the dude isn't great by any means but he's certainly a lot better than that (even Vince's love for muscular men has its limits). Also, i wonder if you even watched McGee match : the dude had some agility but outside of his matches with Bret Hart and Arn Anderson, his matches were way more horrible than the worst matches of Reigns (his one match in AJPW was so bad that they never bothered giving him a second one). And yes, Hogan did have some skills (he proved it more than once in Japan), he just never bothered showing it in the US. I perfectly understand why people doesn't like neither of Reigns or Hogan (especially the later) but come on.
Well they had CM Punk and ruined his push, but he still beat Cena in merch and was always a top 3 draw from 11-13. Says a lot about a guy that's isn't muscular and sweaty like most of McMahon's top guys. You could say Ambrose was there but WWE ain't use him to his full potential.
That guy didn't remind me of Hogan. He looked like a Mr. Universe champion 🏆 that after a a year or so would leave and become a movie star. Well... . If he had lasted. 😏
@@johnnymegabyte Actually, he was supposed to face taker at wrestlemania 21. That was before his altercation in real life. Thorn talked in an interview about how taker was supposed to be face and mordecai heel, making the interesting point that the good guy was dressing all black and the evil one all white. that was so much wasted potential.
There was one that was extremely short lived. Remember Kizarny? Despite heavy promotion in the final quarter of 2008, he wrestled his first match around early January 2009 and won, then completely disappeared never to be heard from again. Wrestling just one match for the WWE, this was one of the most ever short lived WWE Superstars of all time!
My friends Dad is Kevin Thorne and I would really like to meet him. That’s crazy that he almost faced the Undertaker at wrestlemania 21!!! It’s also crazy to know what I know someone who’s dad was in the wwe
I remember the first time I saw Mordecai's promo, the very first thing I thought was "He's the perfect anti-Taker" and couldn't wait for them to clash....what could've been
The Mordecai character was brilliant and had immense potential the look the entrance all fantastic. I envisioned him forming a new ministry of darkness and ultimately going after Undertaker with his faction beating taker and putting him onto a cross reminiscent of the ministry during the attitude era this potentially writes take of TV at survivors series. Taker could then return in time for a Wrestlemania revenge programme.
Rollins is a push I think fans are ready to see be over with. Wish they would make drew mccintire a middle face heel and whoop Shane. I seem to like heels more today, love Lacey Evans but she gets no air time anymore
I bet WWF cut her tv time because she was botching a lot and was involved in a lot of botches she got pushed to early and wwfs probably letting her get more experience on the house circuit before giving her another chance and push so we'll go back to seeing flair getting all the push
@mmm yeah by the end of his career. It annoys me how little the fans brought into his monster gimmick though, I feel like that definitely stunted the last few years of maximum success.
In regards to Mason Ryan even he has stated that he didn't want to be called up to the main roster as he wasn't ready yet. He and Nick Aldis got TV exposure through the UK's reboot of gladiators but which is why they got picked up my wwe and tna respectively even though they where both green.
Marcel Edel I would've imagine if The Great Khali's former tag team partner from the Indies wrestling, Giant Silva, debuted with Khali at the same time back then.
Mordecai may be the biggest disappointment in wrestling history. Not necessarily the man himself, just disappointing that things didn’t work out. He was released for a bar fight? And the Usos are still employed why?
Maybe he got his ass whooped in that bar fight? There's like an unwritten code amongst the wrestlers: If you're getting in a real fight, don't fucking lose.
Two things: (1) I remember the Nathan Jones vignettes and thought he would make a great psycho-heel, but man did he lack the talent! And (2) It's hard to believe there was ever a time where Vince would "change his mind" about a bad idea. Now it's like he is the captain of a sinking ship, and even though there is room for him in a lifeboat, he insists on going down with the ship.
I heard a few wrestlers tell the story of Vince and the warrior laying naked on a bear rug with a couple bottles of wine and a case of bud wiser in front of a fire place with baby oil all over their bodies discussing the warriors contract , so i would have to say vince loves a muscular body he didn't want to push Steve Blackman because he wore karate pants to the ring , abd Vince wanted Steve to show off his muscular legs
I didn’t mind Mabel. I was never crazy about his gimmicks but was always impressed by his size. As a 5 year old kid I believed Zues and his non selling character was unstoppable. I enjoyed the Saturday night main event gimmick matches between him and hogan. The Great Kali was a Giant. WWE is supposed to be a bit of a circus freak show. It’s fake and not every match needs to be a technical wrestling match. I enjoyed watching Giant Gonzalez and bought in to the larger than life super hero / super villain type characters as a kid. As I got older I started to enjoy the more technical matches put on by Bret hart, mr. perfect and the steiners. Then there was Luchadore/cruiserweight/high flying type matches and loved Rey, Eddie, Benoit, Dean Malenko, Jericho the Hardy’s anyone who could do a moonsault. Then there was hardcore matches, ECW and the Attidude Era. I enjoy a balance of all types and helped me as a fan grow up and continue to be excited watching the show. The chemistry and combination of all types creates the perfect storm and max entertainment. That all being said, the remaining wrestlers in your video were trash and I agree.
Unfortunately it needs the people in attendance to pop for a wrestler to get them over. They can have a billion fans at home watching on television but if the ones at ringside are booing, it looks bad on the whole show.
George Harry John cena told big show that he fucked his mom , he didn’t introduce the pg era, to say any wrestler introduced the pg era is just stupid 😂
Cain Velasquez is one of my favorite fighters of all time but if he doesn’t bring the energy up and get the crowd interested in him he’s gonna end up on this list
WWE built him up, jobbed him out, and made him look like a chump before booting him out the door. Such a waste of talent. Cain could have been a big star in WWE and had some high profile matches for a few years. Buyer's remorse? Who should be more butthurt, Cain or WWE?
Willis Skull WWE should be, Cain is a good wrestler. I think Chael Sonnen made the point that he should have a manager like a Paul Heyman and that would’ve been perfect. Cain could’ve been a massive star in Wwe but the wwe doesn’t know how to use their talent
I remember Nathan Jones. He looked amazing, but aside from a semi cool looking spin kick, he was pretty horrible. I remember reading that he was so homesick for Australia that when they came to Australia, Jones refused to leave. Vince threatened to sue him for every thing he had, and Jones didn't care, he just quit and stayed home.
Heidenreich. Remember him? He was like Nathan Jones, except more perverted. Watch his vignette with Michael Cole where he turns Cole around. His character was supposed to be R...@...pey but they tried to make it more palatable by having him read poems.
Nathan Jones famously has died twice in movies: In the beginning of Troy, he dies at the sword of Achilles (Brad Pitt). In The Condemned, he died at the hands of Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Mordecai had the potential to be the best gimmick ever, i guess vince had no choice but to pull the rug off this gimmick because of the mounting pressure by the religious community. I guess the cross is too sacred.
Its actually due to a bar fight and a law suit being filed. Vince is a cheap prick.. If you aint drawing big crowds at the time, Mordecai being fresh, wasnt their yet, Vince wont back you. But I remember him debuting and was instantly hooked for his stint with taker.. Then he disappeared and I was all like "WTF?" This video has now enlightened me.
If anything Vince cares little about the religious community. Reminder that before that he had Reverend D-Von, Taker crucifying opponents in the Ministry of Darkness, and after that he made his own religion and booked himself in a match against God, because Shawn Michaels had become a born again christian..
Vince - “I love beef. I want my wrestlers with some beef on them. If they look like a T-bone steak we’re pushing them to the moon. Oh my God look at the beef on them. Incredible. “ Nathan Jones was awesome in mad Max fury Road.
4:20 Might be interesting: He wasn't totally scrapped from the match, but should do one (1!) outside-the-ring move - a kick... which concussed Big Show -.-
Ultimate warrior was physically very strong though, it did get him through with his show of impressive strength. But yeah his in ring moves were very limited.
Vince was smart enough to see that Austin was the most over wrestler on his roster. Had Vince not pushed him to the top when he did, WWF probably would have died.
Cant lie, I was super excited about Nathan Jones. He had the look, a badass theme song, made his limited moveset look overpowering and had the coolest nickname ever, "The Colossus of Boggo Row". Such a waste.
Here's my list 10. Mabel 9. Tom Magee 8. Nathan Jones 7. Zeus 6. Giant Gonzalez 5. Mason Ryan 4. Heidenreich 3. Mordecai 2. The Great Khali 1. Luther Reigns
Don't forget that Tom Magee was also incredibly athletic. He could easily do a standing backflip and do all kinds of acrobatics around the ring. He just couldn't do a "fake fight".
holy shit i'm seeing this now and mordecai would've been so goddamn cool! they should've gave him more time to train like they did Del Rio. man I wish they'd bring back that gimmick
That Mordecai character was unique. If only Kevin Thorne was good at wrestling, it would've made a great match at Wrestlemania 21 w/ Taker. We got that match in the form of HBK vs Taker at Wrestlemania 25 though so all turned out good
Khali actually brought audience in India back to wrestling where his name was used by even regular people took his name Not so much with jinder mahal (whose name doesn't mean anything) And mahabali shera (again the same is silly)
Re: Nathan Jones: I was there, at the in-ring debut of Nathan Jones on a cold Tuesday evening at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario. The plan was to do a run-in to save Undertaker from an Albert and Big Show double-team. He ran FAST down the ramp, then made a huge, cool, baseball slide into the ring, and threw literally ONE kick at Albert and Big Show (who had beaten down Undertaker). He kicked hard and fast, and obviously too fast, because he overbalanced, and threw his goddamned body all over the ring, two sets of ropes bouncing him around, desperately trying to right-himself before falling with his back onto the ropes at the last possible moment. He would’ve basically done a comedy pratfall if there was even a single obstacle in the ring. I’d never seen a man so big flail his arms around so much. The crowd (including myself) just laaaaaaaughed and laughed. After a weird and un-earned hand-raising beside the Undertaker, and after Albert, Show and (I think) Paul Heyman left the ring area, Vince must’ve ordered them to re-shoot the spot (this was Smackdown, after all). Albert and Show came back into the ring and Jones got another attempt at kicking them. He did it right the second time. It was...weird.
I wouldn´t put Ryback in this list. He knew his powerhouse moves, his problem was, that sometimes he worked careless and dangerous for the opponents. There were other guys, who really couldn´t tell a wrist lock from a wrist watch.

Sean o’ haire
I never knew Deebo from Friday “Zeus” was a wrestler
JabarikJay he briefly was. dude looked like a prison material though.
After Zeus n Hulk Hogan made that movie 2gether
hulk and tiny lister were in the movie "no holds barred" together.
Michael Autrey yupp....fun fact....tiny Lister....the name doesn't fit Deebo.....dude is huge.
Dont forget he was in WCW too as Z gangsta lol
Mordecai is the oddball on this list. Everyone else failed due to being bad to horrible in the ring whereas Mordecai failed due to getting sued from a bar fight. Something the boys did all the time back in the day. He should've been an honorable mention at most. It's not like it was a lack of in ring work or his character that caused him to fail. If he hadn't gotten fired, he probably would've gotten more over than he was at the time. He seemed pretty over to me anyway and quite a few people in the comments here agree.
I think Vince had the idea to push mason ryan as the next Batista 😂, to be fair the two do look alike but still
I remember discussion that it would eventually be Mordecai who'd end Takers streak.
Roman tho? That guy doesn't even know how to due a proper Headlock...
the great khali is still loved till this day I'm sure he was never hated
@@Harakengard regins isn't a draw.
We just need a wrestler that don’t give af lik stone cold Steve Austin
Well they had CM Punk and ruined his push, but he still beat Cena in merch and was always a top 3 draw from 11-13. Says a lot about a guy that's isn't muscular and sweaty like most of McMahon's top guys. You could say Ambrose was there but WWE ain't use him to his full potential.
"Hes going to replace Hulk Hogan" .. he was half right, just talking about the wrong wrestler.
That guy didn't remind me of Hogan. He looked like a Mr. Universe champion 🏆 that after a a year or so would leave and become a movie star. Well... . If he had lasted. 😏
This video just proves more to me , the unappreciated gold that was Bret Hart.
Like Dolph ziggler and mr perfect

Mordecai was awesome and the feud vs Taker would have been epic. Not a "failure", just Kevin's hothead ruining it all.
i remember seeing his hype promos and thinking please fight taker
Could have been a great addition to the Wyatt Family
Mordecai could have been portrayed as evil, and fight the Undertaker for "Most Evil"
@King Markbarry dude to short he needs be 6'10
There was one that was extremely short lived. Remember Kizarny? Despite heavy promotion in the final quarter of 2008, he wrestled his first match around early January 2009 and won, then completely disappeared never to be heard from again. Wrestling just one match for the WWE, this was one of the most ever short lived WWE Superstars of all time!
And later founded his own company
He did one more match in the WWE, but he was in TNA prior, and also after his WWE run.
My friends Dad is Kevin Thorne and I would really like to meet him. That’s crazy that he almost faced the Undertaker at wrestlemania 21!!! It’s also crazy to know what I know someone who’s dad was in the wwe
I remember the first time I saw Mordecai's promo, the very first thing I thought was "He's the perfect anti-Taker" and couldn't wait for them to clash....what could've been
I wouldn't count the Mordecai gimmick. That's more of an issue of personal circumstances and not a lack of ability and charisma.
Mason Ryan's most notable moment was having "Batista" chanted at him LMFAOOOOOO.
Taiyah Jackson no...it was when he was suppose beat up th CM Punk as initiation into Nexus.
It's a bit like when people chanted "Goldberg" at Ryback.
lol i so remember that 😂😂😂
Omos is our current day Mabel. No other way about it and it speaks for itself
She is a realy good family in real life but ring...Bitch situation
I bet WWF cut her tv time because she was botching a lot and was involved in a lot of botches she got pushed to early and wwfs probably letting her get more experience on the house circuit before giving her another chance and push so we'll go back to seeing flair getting all the push
Mordecai vs Undertaker would have been great match
Even Mordecai vs. Kane would have been good
Khali was ruined
He could have been a monster
Too bad he couldn't move better or get him younger or speak English
Actually Khali can speak english
@mmm yeah by the end of his career. It annoys me how little the fans brought into his monster gimmick though, I feel like that definitely stunted the last few years of maximum success.
Vince McMahon pushed certain people due to their size and strength.
And roid intake.
Vince was actually right about Mordecai. It’s a money gimmick.
Great khali was a staple in the early 2000’s vs mysterio and undertaker.
In regards to Mason Ryan even he has stated that he didn't want to be called up to the main roster as he wasn't ready yet.
He and Nick Aldis got TV exposure through the UK's reboot of gladiators but which is why they got picked up my wwe and tna respectively even though they where both green.
I figured that The Great Khali and Giant Gonzales would be on this list.
Duh...
Butterbean?
Marcel Edel I would've imagine if The Great Khali's former tag team partner from the Indies wrestling, Giant Silva, debuted with Khali at the same time back then.
Gonzalez maybe however Khali had a decent run and one could say he was a star at times...
Has anyone ever accused Hulk Hogan of being a wrestler?
Always love these videos as they bring home the importance of performance and physical skills. A lot of people stupidly think it's all about look.
The screenshot with Giant Gonzalez and The Undertaker shows how big that guy really was. Wow!
Kevin Thorn in ECW!
What did the Usos do?
@@boozec The Usos have had arrests stemming from DUI and, I believe, assault.
The USOs are related to a wrestling family hence the slack
Two things: (1) I remember the Nathan Jones vignettes and thought he would make a great psycho-heel, but man did he lack the talent! And (2) It's hard to believe there was ever a time where Vince would "change his mind" about a bad idea. Now it's like he is the captain of a sinking ship, and even though there is room for him in a lifeboat, he insists on going down with the ship.
And, there's even time to save the ship! But Vince is like, "nah... I've been here a long time. Can't leave."
Zeus was awesome. I remember trying to rent the VHS and it was always taken. The guy would give me wrestling nightmares.
Lmao u funny asf
Oh man I forgot about Mordecai, I actually like him when I was little
I didn’t mind Mabel.
Mable wasn't pushed to be a mega star LMAO his inclusion on list was TERRIBLE.
Although WWE was being watched in India from early 2000s but Khali was the reason that it became popular that's why he was being pushed by Vince.
That time wwe ws not so popular...
Now wwe is popular because of the great lhali
dude....wwe was popular in india...even b4 khali's debut
May b.. bt in rural area no body knew the name of wwe... Now everyone know
Unfortunately it needs the people in attendance to pop for a wrestler to get them over. They can have a billion fans at home watching on television but if the ones at ringside are booing, it looks bad on the whole show.
India doesn't draw enough money for that kind of nonsense.....He pushed Khali becuase of his size....pure, and simple.
Only saw mordecai wrestle a few times main one was vs harcore holly on some ppv. I thought he had a good look and his finsher was pretty nice.
1:57 “OH MY GOODNESS!” That clip had me rolling with laughter
I still don’t think Roman Reigns has “it” either, no matter how hard they try to force him down our throats
They need to just let him be himself. He’s a chill dude in all his interviews outside of the wwe.
George Harry John cena told big show that he fucked his mom , he didn’t introduce the pg era, to say any wrestler introduced the pg era is just stupid 😂
This didn’t age well😂
Cain Velasquez is one of my favorite fighters of all time but if he doesn’t bring the energy up and get the crowd interested in him he’s gonna end up on this list
He's actually good. Look at his work with AAA. It's vince that wants him to be more mma like in his wrestling.
He got released today lmfao
Ohhh what a shame, that mordecai storyline about a zealot vs the deadman sounds fucking amazing
3:30 I remember those Nathan jones promos, you just unlocked a memory 😂
Heidenreich. Remember him? He was like Nathan Jones, except more perverted. Watch his vignette with Michael Cole where he turns Cole around. His character was supposed to be R...@...pey but they tried to make it more palatable by having him read poems.
And the worst part is the idea for the backstage segment where Heidenreich raped Cole came from Vince dreaming about it.
Motecai was a great concept to use against 'Taker. It could've been amazing.
True
Nathan Jones famously has died twice in movies: In the beginning of Troy, he dies at the sword of Achilles (Brad Pitt). In The Condemned, he died at the hands of Stone Cold Steve Austin.
3 Times. He was Immortant Joe's brother in Mad Max Fury Road too
Mordecai had the potential to be the best gimmick ever, i guess vince had no choice but to pull the rug off this gimmick because of the mounting pressure by the religious community.
Then he disappeared and I was all like "WTF?"
This video has now enlightened me.
4:20 Might be interesting: He wasn't totally scrapped from the match, but should do one (1!) outside-the-ring move - a kick... which concussed Big Show -.-
I disagree about mordecai, I think he could have done well if the booking was better
I wouldn't call mabel/viscera "awful", either. He actually had amazing athleticism for a guy his size.
It wasn’t the booking that ended the gimmick. It was the lawsuit that he got lol
Ultimate warrior was the proof you don’t need talent to succeed in professional wrestling, good look and charisma are enough sometimes to get over .
That's why John Cena is a Star ! He is WORSE Than the Ultimate Warrior (I didn't think that was possible)
Ultimate warrior was physically very strong though, it did get him through with his show of impressive strength. But yeah his in ring moves were very limited.
@@yashvintackoory2893but he was good with those moves
Warrior didn’t have charisma so much as he was balls out high on cocaine.
a new WWE Fantasy Match-Up - The Great Khali vs Giant Gonzales
vince had no choice but to make Steve Austin a champ, we all now how it would’ve went down if he didn’t
Wait when did Batista join the Nexus?
The Great Wee Wee
😆😂🤣
Zeus couldn't wrestle but he was bad ass summer slam 89 still my favorite
King Mabel came back as Viscera and Big Daddy V too lol they never could get a good name for him. RIP
.....and Vince liked (insert wrestler name) so much, they'd feud with the Undertaker!
Here's my list
10. Mabel
9. Tom Magee
8. Nathan Jones
7. Zeus
6. Giant Gonzalez
5. Mason Ryan
4. Heidenreich
3. Mordecai
2. The Great Khali
1. Luther Reigns
i actually loved mordecai I ALSO LOVE THE KEVIN THORNE CHARACTER
Don't forget that Tom Magee was also incredibly athletic. He could easily do a standing backflip and do all kinds of acrobatics around the ring. He just couldn't do a "fake fight".
The fact you use the term "fake" shows how clueless you actually are.
holy shit i'm seeing this now and mordecai would've been so goddamn cool! they should've gave him more time to train like they did Del Rio. man I wish they'd bring back that gimmick
That Mordecai character was unique. If only Kevin Thorne was good at wrestling, it would've made a great match at Wrestlemania 21 w/ Taker. We got that match in the form of HBK vs Taker at Wrestlemania 25 though so all turned out good
Khali actually brought audience in India back to wrestling where his name was used by even regular people took his name
Not so much with jinder mahal (whose name doesn't mean anything)
And mahabali shera (again the same is silly)
They took the good vs evil gimmick match from ole dude and put it with HBK vs Taker at WM25
What about heidenreich he had a feud with undertaker and Paul heyman as his manager seems like vince pushed him....
Khali holding the belt upside down made me chuckle.😂
Dots that matter?
Re: Nathan Jones:
I was there, at the in-ring debut of Nathan Jones on a cold Tuesday evening at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario.
I mean, for 9 mistakes Vince has made, he's made thousands of right decisions.
Making wwe pg was his biggest mistake
Reading this comment in 2021 is kind of rough... lol
@DWF Wrestling what they need is better lefting

I wouldn´t put Ryback in this list. He knew his powerhouse moves, his problem was, that sometimes he worked careless and dangerous for the opponents. There were other guys, who really couldn´t tell a wrist lock from a wrist watch.
