  • Session with manual catch almost made me rage quit... I remember my first time trying to play Skater XL with manual catch, but I really don't think it was this hard. Something about Session's manual catch has always felt INSANELY difficult to m (which is a skill issue, I know), but in today's video I wanted to try my best to get better with Session's manual catch. Did it work? Not really. Did I have fun? Almost. I do see the potential, and I'm hoping after clocking in some more hours with manual catch that it will grow on me. Time will tell.

    Hey bro don’t feel embarrassed about not being the best at manual catch. I transitioned to this game from SXL for the manual catch and I swear I almost returned the game in my first few hours. Now I’m at 400ish hours or so and I literally will not play this game any other way. Trust me you won’t regret putting in the effort. It makes every battle worth the payoff and you start to develop a style of sorts. You’ll find yourself leaning towards certain tricks and develop a bag that you find the most comfortable. It’s really cool and I hope you stick with it.
    Getting to see you learn the ways of manual catch is an incredibly humbling experience and reminds me of when I started. Don’t give up, bro I know you can do it!! To this day I still find myself practicing all of the flip tricks whenever possible so I don’t lose the “feel” for it.
    Also as awful as it might be you gotta limit to 60fps. Manual catch is kind of broken hahaha. Please feel free to hit me up if you ever need some help or guidance with the game I have a lot of time in this and have found some really interesting techniques that may elevate your experience!

    Locking your FPS to 60 WILL make catching more consistent, that being said the way you should be catching is up on the back foot stick and down on the front foot stick with the correct foot for each trick. Down on front foot to catch Tres, up on back foot to catch Kickflips. If you rotate and do some like a FS Flip it will still be the same input as normal, rotations dont change how you catch.

    Only complaint i have about session is they need to make some animations for goofy and change them from the switch animations

    • @Nick_Tank
      @Nick_Tank 6 місяців тому

      That’s been the biggest complaint and they’re working on it. It’s a difficult time cause UE6(sorry if it’s wrong number) is getting released so games are being developed on TWO engines instead of one. They’re transitioning over to the new engine as we speak so they’re probably waiting for the full transition to implement better animations. I mean they fixed a bit of it already

    IMPORTANT to check what your Grind settings are when you move to manual catch!
    No release, partial, and full release all feel completely different, but it’s all preference.
    Also play around w/ the Flip/Scoop Friction sliders. Personally, I recommend resetting your main settings and starting from there.
    I’ve been on manual catch for like 4 years atp, and keep finding ways to make it feel better.

    For the millionth time ..LIMIT THE FPS TO 60! That's your problem. There's a bug with the FPS and manual catch/flip speed. I have written to you here and discord...you always push the stick towards the center of the board to catch it correctly...

    100% locking the FPS at 60 is a gamechanger for manual catch. General rule of thumb is you want to flick towards the center of the board to catch. I'd love to see you turn off sync flip/scoop it makes manual catch even trickier 🤣

    try upping ur gravity to get rid of the bounce glitch its not 100% fixed but when i upped my gravity it went away for the most part oh and also when you land if you do the 50-50 input it completely gets rid of the bounce glitch and for manual catch i say screw that im sticking to my auto XD

    You only need to time the catch for double flips and anything 360 or more. You can instantly input the catch the moment you flip. You don't need to time it for simple flips e.g kickflip, pop shuv, varial flip, hardflip. I only use manual catch and have tested this countless times.

    I have 500 hours in Session but manual catch is still hard form me. I normally play with auto, just sometimes switch it up.
    But what I don't understand about your Session videos is why you do lipslides, boardslides etc. with rotation (triggers) instead of analogs input? It looks way better this way.

  • @dynamicmenace
    @dynamicmenace 6 місяців тому

    Hey, been a while. How've you been?
    Tldr; flick towards the center of the board to catch. board should be leveled with both feet on it to reduce bouncing
    When catching you always want to flick in towards the center of the board. That means down on the front foot and up on the back foot. This of course is reversed when riding switch. Where it gets a little tricky is when you spin 180. Until you land, the catch direction is not changed. That means for a FS flip youre still catching with up on the back foot despite facing the other way.
    Some notes about the bounce glitch. The most reproducable triggers ive found consider two factors. First the angle of the board when it hits the ground. If the board is pitched forward, it tends to overcorrect on impact. If you level the board after the catch with a quick input on the tail in that example then it should help. Not 100% but less frequent. Second is if both feet are on the board before it hits the ground. Ive noticed that catching a trick just before hitting the ground tends to lead to more bouncing. Im not sure if its because the other foot isnt putting pressure on the board or something else but ive noticed that if you catch either with both feet (which can look janky) or early enough that catch animation can finish then it, again not erases, but helps not bouncing.

  • @logarhythmic6859
    @logarhythmic6859 6 місяців тому

    The bounce glitch should go away if you catch towards the center of the board. At 2:08 you caught flicking towards the nose, which is why you bounced. I think it's because the game tries to land in a nosegrind and then glitches out when there's no rail.
    Edit: Nvm, you figured it out like a minute later lol

  • @leventeszaffenauer4142
    @leventeszaffenauer4142 6 місяців тому

    If you have no release in the grind settings, you can just do the grind input insantly after the trick and it will catch it. Same thing with manuals. You still have to catch flatground tricks and out of grinds/slides. You push the front foot down and the back foot up btw.

  • @Patty-P
    @Patty-P 6 місяців тому

    Manual Catch has no effect on the bounce glitch. If it does, it’s inconsistent and not worth tripping over. They just need to fix the glitch.

  • @edwardwolfeee5236

    when catching the board u need to do back foot back and front foot forward, that will get rid of the goofiness. for example when riding goofy your left joystick will go down and right joystick will go up

    Tbf I only got the game a few weeks ago and have played in manual catch probs half of my time because isn't it the only way to do double, triple, etc flips? if there is another way please let me know as manual catch is sometime a bit hard on my brain lmao. I do feel like grinds are easier when it comes to grinding, I stuggled to do tail and nose slides not that I ever nose slide but I can do them nicely consistently with Manual catch

  • @UnForgivenFury
    @UnForgivenFury 6 місяців тому

    What helped me the most is just think about what you do with your feet in real life. But like others have said 60fps helps a lot and catching is usually towards the center so front foot down or back foot up.

  • @gilldecuypere4472
    @gilldecuypere4472 6 місяців тому

    for a tre I would do front foor up and than back foot down a bit later to balance the board. other way around for kickflip. (Put big drop impact on it is way more fun, and makes sence that your fingers have to be set up correct to handle the impact)

  • @thatpepper1785
    @thatpepper1785 6 місяців тому

    idk where people got the idea that you can stop the bounce glitch from happening. it has nothing to do with how you catch the board, its to do with the games physics messing up when the board hits the ground at too steep of an angle. you can't control it at all, it just happens from time to time because of the unique physics. it's something the devs have tried to fix twice already lmao

  • @RubyRoks

    Manual catch ain't worth the struggle for me. If i want to deal with catching the board, i'll go actually skate.
    Move the stick to the middle of the board to catch. Back foot catch, flick up. Front foot catch, flick down.

  • @586trey1
    @586trey1 6 місяців тому

    Best advice I can give is to practice catching everything with one foot first then learn both. I tend to catch everything with my front foot or flicking foot and always catch the same direction u crouch in.

  • @Robster881
    @Robster881 6 місяців тому

    From what I understand, you pull down on the right stick to catch with the backfoot and down with the left to catch with the frontfoot. When landing in a grind, you just do the expected input for the grind instead of the front/back catch thing but the timing still needs to be right. You can catch most tricks with either foot, but sometimes it'll look weird if you use the non-standard catching foot.
    They really don't do a good job of teaching this in the game.

  • @TheCodyK

    OK GARRET this here goes some tips for you dont struggling anymore,maybe😅: Manual catch its like dark souls mode of this game but keep eyes on the time of your flick in manual catch. GOOFY STANCE its ( for left foot and right foot config) its stick down for left foot and stick up right foot. BUT U CAN ADJUST YOUR TIME TO CATCH in advenced adjust and go in your fricction. Try to not flick you flips fast too much when catch cuz sometimes for me dont register when i do this.

    Now enable big drop and find your desired slider setting for it. You will really have fun with manual catch then😂
    To catch correctly, for front foot- down, for back foot- up. Its your choice of which foot you want to use. if you have late flips enabled and do the wrong direction to catch you will do a weird jump/bounce, just a heads up. And grind the grind input IS the catch so technically you are right😊

    Keep playing, it's goes away. The enjoyment I mean.
    Jking, but playing with higher gravity and slower flip speed helped me to synchronize. Also, if the speed/trick/landing impact is synch (that tends to happen a lot) then you don't even need to catch the board. Your skater just lands on it. If you tend to catch it too early or too late, change your flipping speed so the board will be more synch with your actual muscle memory. I personally tend to leave these settings where they are ''synch'' for me cause when I don't I can't catch anything anymore.
    Keep shredding!

  • @toastbrot97

    I could be wrong because i haven't sinced this in a while, but if i remember correctly, if you do a trick on flat, you always wanna catch towards the center of the board. So if you wanna catch with the front foot, you wanna catch down, and with the back foot vise versa. Exceptions are when you wanna land in a way that requires you to immidiately switch balance onto the nose or tail, like if you wanna land in a manual or grind. In that case you wanna catch towards the nose/tail of the board. How all of this relates to the bounce glitch i have no idea. Also i'm pretty sure you can technically catch whatever way you want, there is no real right or wrong. Depending on if you rocket or dip the board during a flip can also impact how the catch can look.

    It is a fucking frustrating game that is sometimes rewarding. But the controls are unneccesarily overcomplicated, the animations suck, there is no real switch stance and the skater has Nate Sherwood type steeze. I still like to play but I doubt I will play it as much as SXL.
