Few years back the only videos on testing thermocouples were from America. No commercial training centre in the UK ever touched on the practical experience of testing and proving components within/outside the central heating system. Brilliant video!
Thanks for posting this. I recently purchased an old Eastham Maxol 41 camping oven. Couldn't figure out why it wasn't working till your video explained how the thermocouple combined with the flame failure valve worked. After that it was easy to test the operation of the valve and thermocouple. Explains why I couldn't get it to light first time. I didn't hold the button in long enough. Thanks again.
I am almost finishing my gas course in leeds College, but honestly, I'll come to viva Gas Training for the rest of my course, which I like to do, and the only reason is allen and Roy's ( he is a live gas bibles). I'm so impressed by these guys knowledge specially Roy's. Looks after your self men.
Thank you Allen and Roy, a great video, and well explained. I’m liking these new Roy videos, thanks both and Viva. A couple of questions if I may? In a video Roy mentions no need to have mega expensive multimeter, I have an Amprobe 500 basic and mislaid an Extech, should I upgrade to a Fluke, or will these suffice? Is there going to be a video on Combi boiler sequence of operation?
Can't remember who but someone makes one off them testers got one in a bag some place. Works better than multi meter tested some that where obviously burnt out but was getting 20 odd millvolts
Been on several of Roy's courses. One of the best. Good to see him still sharing his knowledge.
Absolutely
Loving these new fault finding series. Well done Allen
Thank You

Great video as always gents. Wish I would have had someone like yourselves as my instructor.
Great basic training, sometimes it’s the simple things
Thank You
TC's are still out there but don't see many boilers now with them. Last one I went out to would be over a year ago.
Thank You
Great video, thanks Roy and Alan, unless you know how the simple things operate faults are not so simple to diagnose.
Thank You
These videos are great ,I feel smarter already . How do you test the mag unit if it is an intermittent fault? Thanks
Great, thanks Allen and Roy :)
Thank you for all your support
Great struff! Is it possible to repair a thermocouple?

Where we can find the part used in the first test method?
Thanks Alan
Very helpful thanks guys 👍
Thank You
Also, I’ve never replaced a thermocouple, can a universal thermocouple be used, or does it have to be manufacture specific?
Universal thermocouple that’s long enough CAN Work.
Why brand new thermocouple makes just 15mV ? Pilot flame is good and "touch" the thermocouple perfectly.
Great video again Allen. Does Roy have his own UA-cam channel ? Or does he have an Instagram account?
Hi Simon,
I don't have either a UA-cam account or Instagram, but I'm on Facebook.
Yes, This one 😂😂😂👍
😂😂 sorry Allen. He’s a really good trainer 👌🏽

Regin make a thermocouple tester which is the same setup as using an old mag unit
Hi Colin,
Thanks for the feedback. Regin do one the REGT20, I used to have a SIT one years ago.
😍😍😍
Thank You
