I would love to know your opinions and experiences with Brushes 😉
Hey Felipe👋🎶,
thanks for your video. I have a question: Till now I always used Wire-Brushes. I really enjoy their sound.
But I‘ve heard, that it isn’t good for the frontplate of the Cajon! Would you agree?
@@benotminghaus2861 Hi Ben, thanks for you message. I don't agree with that because I use all the time and it isn't damaging the "tapa". The important is the rubber part between the handle and the wires. If it's a standard brush with the handle made of plastic it can damage the front plate. You can notice in the video in both wire and nylon brush there is a rubber protection.
I honestly prefer to play cajon with brushes. It's better for the body ergonomically and you can get nuances with brushes that you can't get with hands. Sure, sometimes hands are necessary if you really need to pack a wallop, but brushes do the trick more often than some players might suppose. I use a variety that includes Vater cajon brushes, Vater little monsters, Vic Firth cajon brushes, Vic Firth poly-flex nylon brushes, Vic Firth bru-llets, Vic Firth African grass remix brushes, Vic Firth jazz rakes and Promark broomsticks. The feel of the music determines which ones I use, but other factors such as amplification and the acoustics of the room play a role as well. Thanks for sharing your insights on the topic.
@@tomorr7692 Thanks for sharing your experience with brushes, cheers!
@@CajonMaster You're quite welcome. One correction: the third item on my list should have been Regal Tip cajon brushes, not Vic Firth.
2:15 Wire Brush
3:24 Nylon Brush
4:18 Cajon Brush
Cool video Felipe, I don't use metallic brushes in the cajon because it damages the front cover after some time of use, I always use and recommend nylon brushes to avoid damaging your instrument.
I've always use it and never damage the front plate. It probably depends which Wire brush you're using. And I love the sound of the metal brush on the cajon. 😉
Nice one Felipe !! It 's very nice to be able to add different sound to the cajon. It gives more options than just the hands ! thank you for sharing
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it ;)
Nice one mate! Really liked your sound recording quality on this one :-) I could hear all the little details.
Thanks bro! I've changed the front mic and some EQ and it sounds more open :)
@@CajonMaster ahh! Very good.
Thank you very much for helping me decide on which brushes I'm going to use, which are the second and third.
Happy to help! Good choices ;)
This is really educational!! Good job
Thanks 🙏 Glad you liked it 😉
@@CajonMaster You're Welcome
Nice video..I also have one made of straw which is great... traditional grip is good to use because it's more comfortable natural position on tapa.....nice video 😁😁also..I use thick meinl one as well...great for a heavy bass sound especially if you move the rings closer to the end
Thanks my friend. I think this is the most natural position, glad you liked it and thanks for sharing your experience here, cheers 😉
Which brushes would you recommend as most useful ? Maybe the standard ?
Awesome video! I love playing with plastic brushes with my cajon
Thanks Adrián! Which one do you use?
@@CajonMaster They're from a local Argentinian percussion brand, PRS. I'd love to try the Meinl nylon ones!
@@Adrian-dl9nb Cool!
Thank you
You're welcome
Do metal brushes have any wear & tear effect on the cajon surface?
Metal brushes can leave some marks after some time, nothing major but yes, it happens. However, it sounds very nice!
I am new to cajon playing. I wonder what would happen if you used a bass drum mallet like they use in marching bands-with a felt head and wooden shaft...🤔
Hi, thanks for your question. It can be a bit heavy to play it because of the vertical position of the cajon. I use a soft mallet in my cajon pedal when I use a pedal on the cajon, I never play the cajon with mallets on my hands.
Try Vic Firth bru-llets. They're a combination brush and mallet.
@@tomorr7692 Brilliant! I just looked them up and ordered a set. I can't wait!
@@deadweasel7942 Sweet. I hope they deliver what you're looking for. They're quite handy in situations that need a heavier but not too overpowering sound. And permit me to bid you a belated welcome to the wonderful world of cajon playing, Mr. Weasel.
Nice bro to play cajon
Thanks Timotius! do you play the cajon?
Where to buy?
ALL Links in the description ;) cheers
Anyone use brushes on slap top cajon? Wondering what be best type on it.
You can use the nylon brushes, it will sound great!
@@CajonMaster Thanks. Will have a look about for some.
Cool, let me know how it goes ;)
standard brush is better for me, it´s more big, more body!
I like as well, very balanced sound ;)
