    This dude is so good, he can’t even properly pretend to have a bad sense of time lol. He just sounds like he’s rapidly switching tempos

    Great video Felipe. Another way to develop timing and groove (and make practice more fun) especially as a beginner is to play along with music. You don't have to play everything the drummer plays exactly like they play it. You can use the beat as your metronome and play a simplified version of what you hear until you become able to play more complex grooves. As beginners, it's easy to slip off the beat when playing to a click and find yourself playing the 2 on the 3. Without a visual aid you would never know you were doing that, you simply know you're back on the click. Playing with music, you know if you're off as well as where you are supposed to be in the groove.

      Hi Jerry, you're right, this is a great insight. Practice with music is for me the next big step to combine all the 3 things. Good idea for follow up video ;) thanks for your comment my friend, cheers!

    Great video! You were super clear and the examples were really helpful. My challenge on the cajon right now is making good grooves without them sounding too busy.

      Hi Adrián, thanks for your comment. I think I know what do you mean, it happened the same with me in my first years with the cajon. I think it's great to have busy grooves but for that the ghost notes must be very quite to give a nice effect to the groove. Don't hesitate to send me a video if you need any help ;)

    Genuine good video. I still need to work on timing, in particular not speeding up (unless I plan to!) making fills smooth and coming back in time. Relaxing usually helps too....

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  3 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoy it! I suggest you to choose a simple groove, play 1 bar groove then a simple 1bar fill then groove again, very slow repeating over and over again with the metronome. This will help to internalise the subdivision. Try it and let me know if it works ;)

    • @daveargall3454

      That's good advice and I must admit I'm a bit metronome lazy/reluctant. Generally I improvise on fills and could do with learning some set fills. I play a variety of instruments and also have a bass pedal, so I'm also developing foot techniques. I have been seriously learning percussion for about 5 years now, though I've dabbled before. I've attached a video from a local open mike session in case you'd like to listen and let me know what you think - it was unrehearsed and I hadn't played with the singer/guitarist before... ua-cam.com/video/lQ8LeO_PatQ/v-deo.html

    6:11 Master, you say it is weird . Yes, you go out of time like start rushing and losing control but naturally comes back in time.
    Maybe in avant-garde jazz context, the other musicians will love it. It sounds interesting.

      Thanks for the comment. This was only a demonstration of what would be if it happens. Of course, each student will have its own limitations and things to improve. You are right, in a jazz context it can work, but of course with intention of doing that, and not as mistake :)

    Hi, Felipe. First of all, thanks for your sharing on UA-cam channel. I used to follow your channel.
    Recently I come across a teaching that, how Cajon Player sitting position and posture on a Cajon. Is there any right or wrong if to lift the front of Cajon up a bit so that the player can sit up straight ? As if long hour playing with body bend down so our hand can reach the bass zone, it will be very tire and end up having
    backache. What 's your opinion?

    • @CajonMaster
      @CajonMaster  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Andrew, lifting the cajon a bit can help with position. There is not right or wrong. I used to lift the cajon before but now i'm not doing it, I think I found my comfortable spot. You should try different positions and find what works best for you. If you want me to check it, you can send me a video of you playing, then I will be able to give a more precise opinion. send to felipe@cajonmaster.com, cheers

    Hello there!
    I want to dive into the world of cajon playing, but i have 1 problem.
    I'm a pretty big guy, and I'm afraid that I will destroy my cajon if i sit on it.
    Does a cajon has a weight limit?
    Your response will be appreciated 😁
