What is Les Misérables (2012) about?

The way she's overcome with panicked despair as she's singing just makes me lose it. I feel that anxiety and panic and total loss of all hope right there with her when I watch this.
She's not, she's just unable to breathe because she's sitting down and flooding her vocal chords with mucus. It's a fantastic acting performance, but not a vocal one.

Her Mom played this role on stage. It makes me wonder if Anne said….Wait til I get my chance. She nailed it! She lost so much weight to transform into sick Fantine, so they had to get a doctor to be on site.

Not just for her, but for high jackman as well. When he played valjean in the beginning of the movie, he lost so much weight and hadn’t had water for so long he said he was very lightheaded. I’m shocked he wasn’t sent to the hospital after those scenes
i just knew this but you’re right! i always thought how anne got the training for chops but it’s no wonder she got it from her mother who played fantine in a national tour.
I remember her saying that seeing her mother on-stage, performing as Fantine, was her inspiration to get into acting.

It's so hard to not sniff while singing and crying, the amount of control you must have is crazy
She seamlessly transfers from belting out crying to head voice vibrato … close up, tears streaming on point… such a different challenge being on film than on stage… phenomenal performance.
The part that makes me cry during this song is when she sings “he took my childhood in his stride” with such anger and emotion. That line always gets me. Because it happened to me. We meet someone… we are happy. Then something happens and we grow up. We are not the same and we’ve been tossed to the side and forgotten. Even after so many monumental things have happened. So many firsts. We are forgotten. Left with wishing we could go back and hold onto our innocence or happiness tighter. Protect it.

Happened to me, even if I know he wasn't the best guy (he was a high schooler going to Jr year and I was a 6th grader), the relationship (at the time) meant a lot to me. This song always makes me cry. From pain of that little girl. I'm 18, freshman in uni. I wish I could tell little me we'd find the love of our lives, and be married soon.
That scene makes me cry each time I see it😢

It's hard to cry and sing and transform into the character you are playing... Anne did all three exceptionally... I get goosebumps listening to her perform this song....
I'm sorry, but she really didn't. This is not good singing. Go listen to the Les Mis stage soundtrack if you doubt me. Her acting is phenomenal, but the singing isn't.

I have watched the original film seen the stage show and watched this and at the age of 63 nothing has made me cry more than this
