  • In which I cover the upcoming megadungeon by Alex Coggon and Charles Ferguson-Avery. It's feverish, and nightmarish, and amazing. And while it isn't yet available for purchase, you should keep it on your radar, as it's on its way!
    Here's where you can find out more:
    feral-indie-studios.itch.io/a...

    Music from a selection of great video games (StS, HK, DKC, and CT).

    I love the look of this one. Not sad that it's a slightly less mega mega-dungeon. Makes it more feasible to actually finish, IMO.

      Totally! I 100% agree.

    Feral studios just consistently hits it out of the park! Ave Nox’s setting instantly deserves a place right next to the other recent god tier settings & adventures released in the past few years 1) Dolmenwood and The Dark of Hot Springs Island (a little older but an evergreen classic still a gold standard for me). I can’t wait to transfer my solo character from The Vast in The Dark to Ave Nox!
    @RedMageGM I only recently discovered your channel and I love the work you are doing. I’ve only been following you for a week or so but I’ve come trust you are going to cover the Creme de La creme of ttrpgs. Our tastes are completely simpatico! Thank you for your service.

    I know I'm late to the party but this looks so awesome! Aside from the elden ring/dark souls vibe I get a lot of vermis vibes as well. Thanks to your video I now have into the weird and wyld along with into the cess and citadel on their way. I can't for get my hands on this one next! Thank you for all your reviews!

    I like mega dungeons that are different and stays on theme. This diffidently meets that criteria.

    Love your presentation of this. I almost skipped this because megadungeons arent my thing but I do love this concise writing style. Each page is probalby only 1/4 or 1/5 of a Wizbro wall of words dense page, so it seems more digestible despite 150+ pages. Definitely interesting and on my maybe list.

      Definitely much more manageable than the average megadungeon!

    Yesss. I backed this and also plan to run it with Shadowdark!!! It's beautiful and the art is just amazing.
    Also totally agree about the layout stuff. It is honestly kind of disappointing. I know it's probably too late to change the page orders but like... there are so many great examples out there of formatting these things well, it's a real bummer they couldn't at least think to do full spreads for the 2-page maps, or replace some of the margin art with a zoomed-in map of the area being described on those pages. It would've made this really good product an amazing one.
    That said, I can't wait to run this for a group and scare the absolute shit out of them with that monstrosity that wanders the halls...

    Is this setting somehow post-apocalyptic fantasy? The gas lines kinda give that vibe.

    • @RedMageGM
      @RedMageGM  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, the tech level of the city is definitely higher than standard fantasy. But it's not super advanced. At least, as far as I can tell.

    Mr. Red Mage, do you get advance copies of books like this? If so, I have a question for you. Are there 'beta reader' or writing circles for OSR modules hidden away from the public eye or are most of these people just testing locally and managing to come out with these wonderful and beautiful creations just out of the blue?

    • @RedMageGM
      @RedMageGM  3 місяці тому

      I think there are reviewers who do get advance copies specifically for review purposes, and while I have gotten a couple that way, the majority of books I review are just things I happen to have. This one I kickstarted, and I think everyone who backed it at the level I did got the 1.0 file right away. There are definitely groups where people get together and discuss things! I am not privy to most of them, but I'm in a couple discord servers where writers congregate.

    10:26 You know you can view a pdf as a spread, right?

    • @RedMageGM
      @RedMageGM  3 місяці тому

      Sorry, yeah I should have been clearer - the way the pages work out when you view it as a spread, those two pages are on separate spread pages.
