    Yes it's Lye for me too. I used to use the box kind when I was alot younger. Noticed overtime my hair started to look dry and brittle...made the change and my hair immediately looked less dry and had a much silkier feeling.

      Thats why I stopped 8 years ago because my hair would get dry over time post relaxer and it would be brittle once I needed a retouch. I definitely wish I came across this info I tried two years ago and again same outcome with box relaxers. I have used lye like maybe twice but retouch only. Looks like I might start again.

    I'm half black and started straightening my own hair as a very young man. It takes me almost exactly 17.5 minutes and I don't play no nothing, I'm by myself and brush it in fast and thick with Dark and Lovely. I begin ready and hop in the shower and follow each step, but I follow up with my own conditioner which is Biolage. If I had long hair like you, I'd have to be far more careful and I have had very long hair down to my chest. I love my hair but it's a pain in the ass and lookin good is a matter of perspective. I want my hair flat as hell, so I can easily comb and brush it any which way I chose. I'm a 41 year old Italian black man with beautiful hair and in happy. But you do you. Anyway I appreciate you and wish you great success.
    Respect and love!

    My hair was healthier when I was relaxed and when I tried to go back I noticed my hair was dry. I didn’t know it was because I used no lye. I get a lot of buildup because I have bad dandruff and didn’t have such a bad problem when I was relaxed. It’s made me not so much with my hair and just throw on a wig but I’m going back. I’ll still do wig but want to take care of my hair and relaxers help me do that. Thanks going to get a jar relaxer tomorrow!!!

    Thank you so much for this video!! After 13 years with a natural TWA, I decided to get a relaxer recently while traveling. Got a pixie cut and absolutely love it. But here’s the catch: Now I’m back home and am having a hard time finding a local salon who uses the brand relaxer I have Syntonics (lye-based, verrry gentle, botanicals, no breakage, love it). I want to still use it but if I can’t, what do I do? Should I just use a different relaxer as long as it’s the same base (lye)? I’ve heard you shouldn’t “overlap” relaxers because they have different formulas, but what do you do in this case?

    I love when my hair is relaxed but I'm now learning that hair relaxers are causing uterine, breast and ovarian cancer. I'm 61 years old and have been relaxing from age nineteen. I really don't want to have any of these cancers. I last relax my hair last year October but to tell you the truth, I can't manage with my new growth anymore. It's course and hard to manage even tho I use hair softener etc. But then there is the cancer scare. I need your advice and suggestions

      You’re right that the salon brands are more effective and give longer lasting results. I’ve been on vacation swimming a few days after a no-lye home brand (Optimum) and my frizz was so puffy. But washing my hair or swimming after salon relaxers didn’t produce really any frizz because the process seemed to be permanent. The 3 professional brands I am aware of are: Affirm, Mizani, and Design Essentials. There’s probably more, but these seem to be the most popular.

    I actually find the no lye relaxer better because of the olive oil content which acts as a protectant, not to mention a tablespoon of olive oil is great for blood pressure and glowing skin. Olive oil has been used by Ethiopians and this is why their hair is so beautiful. They add a lot of olive oil. All relaxers have a timer so you will not to burn your head, but some people over do it. A salon burned my scalp and forgot about me as I said "my head is burning." I was only 11 yrs. old, but my sister who was a legal eagle came in and said "what the bleep are you doing, don't you see her head is burned????" So the salon lady washed everything out with warm water and added a lot of Vaseline and that helped get rid of the scabs over the next couple of weeks. But I never went back there.

      That’s incorrect- Ethiopians have type 3 hair because of centuries of racial admixture- given the close proximity to the Middle East. They don’t use “olive oil “ to get their hair that texture. That’s ridiculous.

      Here's a fun fact, the difference between a kiddie relaxer and an adult relaxed is that a child is on one of the box. The ingredients are exactly the same. You just leave it in the hair for less time🤷‍♀️

    Couldn't you just put some vaseline or something on your scalp before applying the relaxer, so it won't burn your scalp?

      Yes but be careful not to put it on your new growth or it might block the relaxer from working

    Is it true that a chelating shampoo can remove the calcium build up? TIA😘

    • @BriannaRashay
      @BriannaRashay  2 роки тому +3

      Yes! Cheating shampoo is great at removing buildup but so it a really good neutralizing shampoo. Usually when you use the products that are the same brand as the relaxer they work together! But other times you may have to use different type of neutralizing/clarifying shampoo!

      hey, I see you asked this a while ago but its NOT recommended... having 2 textures long term would lead to breakage. Also if you only do it once, as time goes on you will have a totally different hair texture in the middle of your hair strands as well. this again will eventually lead to breakage and also a "poodle" effect/ look to your hair.

    Something I’ve noticed when doing my relaxers… is the box ones give me the most smooth and silky results. I’ve been using the motions lye one and my hair maintains the most texture which I kinda don’t like. I have always used super and my hair never gets straight enough for me even when leaving it on longer 🫤🫤🫤
