    Mr. Modi is a visionary leader. Though I disagree with most of their ideological stand. But he has delivered much needed push on various issues. The most important is, "work or perish" style of governance. Thereon any government in future will have to perform to get elected. There's a self believe amongst the people to achieve national milestones and contribute in nation building.

      What tangible work he has done in the last 5 years, which was not done by any previous government?
      Job, School, college, improving Indian GDP growth rate, inflation, anything?
      Did he increase the per capita income of Indians by more percentage points than his predecessors?

    This analysis would have been more forceful if Shekarji spoke more about the lack of follow through. NAM died because of Nehrus lack of focus and follow through. Just like reforms, The kid and grandkid never bothered to follow through.
    A foreign policy can only be successful if there’s consistency and follow through especially between Govts.

      To be fair, NAM never stood a chance. It was the post-colonial era, and the "3rd World" was ready to fall at anybody's feet for aid, food, military equipment, and protection. It is a new era now. I doubt Modi is serious about another block. It is mostly an issue-based dynamic block that will form and deform from time to time. India's main concern is to avoid choosing the "devil (the US) and deep sea (China)" situation.

      @@libshastra "even the slimmest change can become the greatest opportunity with consistent follow through".. very true. But NAM's primary agendas = dislike for great power politics of CW era & decolonisation became irrelevant post USSR dissolution. It had no agenda. It had to peter out into oblivion. It was only natural.
      But the underlying idea of NAM = of sort of a 3rd pole = is very much the dominant thinking in the current Indian FP mandarins. EAM Jaishankar himself said the although NAM was dead, it's basic idea of choosing your own path towards international issues is the very thing that guides today's quest for "strategic autonomy".
      So imo, current dispensation has taken whatever was good about NAM & taken it forward. But NAM absolutely in its original form could never have survived since it was more based on equidistance rather than issue-based alignment or coalitions.

    • @libshastra
      @libshastra Рік тому +1

      @@mchauhan4 again you miss my point. You can have a really good foreign policy but if you don't follow through with, it will become a failure. NAM was a product of it's time but it's failures were not because of structural factors rather it was disinterest - in other words lack of follow through. Each party became disinterested in common values proposed by NAM over time or followed their own policy. One of the most glaring examples of disinterest is the lack of condemnation with regards to Sukarno's overthrow by US and UK. That really cemented perception of India's lack of interest in SE Asia - which used to be the traditional domain of New Delhi.

    • @sankalp6872
      @sankalp6872 Рік тому +3

      @@libshastra If I had missed your point, I would NOT have upvoted your response. After NAM's cold shoulder to India's cause during the 1962 war, it was clear that the bloc was just an overhyped dinner party. India had no compelling reasons to follow through. Also, Nehru died soon after, and Indira Gandhi hitched and hiked the Soviet bandwagon. Also, Nehru wasn't NAM's only patron. Both Nasser and Tito had their own ambitions.
      Nehru had some vision. He had more failures than successes, but his vision was always a positive one. Indira Gandhi saw nothing beyond power and control. I see many on the right who are huge admirers of Indira Gandhi. The amount of damage she did to this country is immeasurable. Look no further than the paltry 2% growth rate under her. Many credit her for the creation of Bangladesh. I ask, how did that help us?

    Nehru's socialist beliefs made sure that leftist ideas got roots in a predominantly right hindu mindset thereby our politicians could offer slogans for public and make neo Rajahs of themselves. That wasted 70 years of our self rule allowing counties like china to march over while we celebrated garibi hatao. Liberals and left ably aided by Rahul and co is desperately trying to bring their golden era back and hence even right wing BJP is more left and defensive now rather helping us by being real right wing in policies. Pakistan, Somalia, and Afghanistan are members of the Global South, what exactly do we have in common with them? Are they an aspirational model? The global south doesn't even exist. There is no such coherent group of countries. Most of the global south hates each other. The global south is little more than an Indian poverty fetish that stems from deeply ingrained socialist thinking in India. The only reason it is still a talking point in India is because it appeals to the deeply insecure voters back home. In terms of actual foreign policy, Modi understands this perfectly. One more important fact about grouping the Global South is that it has no permanent glue inherent in it. If we talk about taking care of countries with low GDP, well every country is trying to get richer, and some will succeed. If the GS is supposed to be post-independence colonies, well every nation had different experience under colonialism and different freedom struggle. The global South in the end will only become a tool for the strongest nation in it, as every other nation which has stake in the grouping will have to agree with it.

    If we are not part of those blocs, we outright give China the freedom to freely run the bloc as they see fit and guide it for their own agendas and purposes. India's presence on it serves to balance China and allows us to exert influence on all countries that are unwilling to ally with the west. In case of a UN vote, all countries count equally and ny having influence over the numerous countries of Africe and South America, we have a chance to get the votes in our favour on issues when needed. It also gives those countries an alternate voice within the platform to rally behind in case the China stand seems exploitative.
    Infact, as China grows in power and becomes the defacto #2 (which seems inevitable for now) the nations of the would be looking to rally behind a country which is beholden to neither side (US or Chinese) This gives us the advantage as we would seem natural leaders for such a block as long as we are seen as autonomous. If we were to be a part of NATO instead of BRICS & SCO, we lose any standing as a neutral country. However, no matter how many China centric blocks we join, nobody on Earth will think India is allying with China because of our disputes, which probably won't be resolved anytime soon.
    If we were to accidentally isolate ourselves, the US would not be as forgoing in negotiations or giving us exemptions to its various rules that forbid dealing with Russia or whatnot. We would then be at the mercy of their laws as they try to guide our policy as they see fit and one of the first measures to that would be destroy any Indian defence industry so that the defence lobby that holds a lot of power in the US could profit from selling weapons to us.

    Also, only former colony to have it's own Aircraft Carrier, Nuclear Submarines, Battle Tanks ,Fighter jets & Space Agency which is bound to set a manned mission in 2025.
    Last but not the least Having 25% more GDP than it's former coloniser UK.
    Which is enviable for any former colonised country to have & achieve.

    The worse thing that happened to India was that Congress was allowed to govern the country uninterrupted till 1977 as by then , the country was destroyed economically and still struggling to come out from the poverty that engulfed it.
    The Congress leaders knew no matter what they did or did not do , they will come back to power in every election.
    Thus there was no pressure on them to improve the country economically.
    If only India had a visionary leader during the long uninterrupted Congress rule, it would be a success story like China.
    China was poorer and more backward than India but because they had a leader like Deng Xiao Ping to lead them, they are now one of the richest country in the world, if not already the richest.

    Wheather you accept it (or) not Shekhar Ji INDIA 🇮🇳 has Developed and Got the Respect which Nehru and Congress failed to Deliver in 60 Years of their Rule😏.Narendra Modi🚩 is the Man who Made Changes(GST , Sagarmala ,Integrated Frieght Corridors , Infrastructural Boom ,Digital Revolution with UPI induction , Gat Shakthi Mission ,Aatmanibhar Bharath Initiative) etc..just as like Deng Xioping Did to China 🇨🇳 during 1970's.Narenddra Modi 🚩is the Man of Power🔥 ,Charisma😎 , Proud Hindu 🕉️ and a True Staunch Nationalist💪 who has no Personal Interest of his Own Family Development like Congress.He only works for the welfare of his Nation 🇮🇳 that is why Wider People of INDIA 🇮🇳 is voting Regardless of their Caste and Race.

    What a third class & ill informed analysis this was... Terms like global south or NAM are not be defined strictly on longitudinal basis or according to per capita income.. these terms are more associated with what we call as Geo-politics and not economics or geography. These groupings denotes some broad commanilty in those countries geo political status.
