I did this for about 2 years, and I had to stop this last January. I was a connoisseur drunk as well, and all of my friends were. Our usual scotch, bourbon, Irish whiskey, etc, tastings would turn into drinking half a bottle of each. It wouldn't be uncommon that in one night, any one of us would down 10+ shots and maybe a few beers. But, it was always justifiable because we were extending our palate. It sounds fucked up now, but I lived that for years and the last 2 years became way out of control, and the pandemic made it way worse. Thankfully, this last January I had a moment of clarity that said I should give it up.
Lol, same boat. The only difference was how expensive the liquor got. Downed half a bottle of $90 whiskey because I'm tasting and expanding as a connoisseur. Noo, that means your an alcoholic, hiding something and enjoying too much.
“Our childhoods don’t exist anymore.” That’s powerful. So many parents rationalize and justify their behavior cause they’re parents did it. Like no one ever thought that hitting their child (abuse) cause they aren’t doing what they want them to do was a “form” of discipline. They just had abusive parents and are doing the same abuse.
As someone who has a verbally abusive parent, this is spot on. Over time I understood why they said and did what they did, but it doesn't at all justify continuing the cycle.
This channel is great. It's so nice to find all these videos in one location. It would be good if you could also include the date or at least the year. 👍
My mouth was watering listening to him describe those home pours. And I already had one. I like it neat, but a whiskey on the rocks sounds great right now.

There are definitely pros to normalizing drinking with your kids. After my parents, I was definitely not impressed with my friends, so i didn't try to hard to do it.
That's for damn sure. I drank with my parents when I just got old enough. And when I used to go to parties and my peers would drink too fast and just get shit faced, I would just casually enjoy my drink and have a good time.
This is a wake up call (one of many) to get off the sauce, but I gotta say his point about retrospect. If I got really square, never would have gotten out of my comfort zone, had a long term relationship, worked where I worked etc. If I had stayed square, at some point in 2020 I would have offed myself for getting fired re: refusing the clot shot and having nothing to show for it. Life is a wild ride, but yeah lay off the sauce kids, in most situations moderation, self-denial or self control will do wonders.
My dad too. Heard my father was a hard-core alcoholic. He drank liquor/beer and would chase it with cough syrup sometimes. He went to counseling/therapy after I was born. He had a small relapse, but hasn't drank in 26 yrs.
I drank a lot with my dad as a teenager. One time I walked home from school and my dad was drunk watering the front lawn completely naked only wearing a Chevy's sombrero and he's not Mexican.
Everything is better alone , listen to some songs with no interruptions and get a buzz , too many negative people , no time to listen to a lot of bitterness from the salty dogs
I used to drink two a night, and before that, it was almost a full wine bottle. I enjoyed it but it’s not worth it. Now I occasionally drink during the week, and I don’t miss the heavy drinking. I enjoy one and that’s good for me.
We tell ourselves we love the flavor and the characteristics of the drink, whatever it is… But really we all like that buzz, don’t we? I discovered this when a nice double pour of 100+ proof had absolutely zero effect on me. So I drank more of it. Not because I liked it necessarily… But because I was trying to get back to that buzz. To be fair, I still enjoy whiskey a lot and consider myself a bit of a snob, but I have backed way off and hope to continue to do so until I’m only taking a few sips every now and again, not on the nightly by myself in my home den.
