Integrated screens into the dash are always preferred.
Screens sticking up from the dash are a bad design.
The V6 is stout, but it needs a timing chain like the rest of the world.
People also want a HYBRID option. A hybrid Passport with 3OO+ hp
would be a true game changer in the real world ...
Bringing back the REAL shifter knob is always a good idea.
And REAL mechanical parking brakes are also more reliable.

    • @tomcharbonneau9788

The timing belt is a deal breaker for me, wake up, Honda.

    • @bobvance-
      @bobvance- Місяць тому +1

A passport with 350hp wouldn't be that big of a deal. Imo it's perfectly powered already unless they turn it up to 11 and put 450+ into it which would never happen in a million years.
The timing belt is absolutely FINE. Chains have their issues too, and they are much noisier than belts. A belt is not a huge deal as it's basically a one and done job that you have done with other maintenance items.
A hybrid just adds complexity too. I love how people like you complain about timing belts but don't care about a hybrid system that can cost thousands of dollars outside of warranty.

    • @bobvance-
      @bobvance- Місяць тому

@@tomcharbonneau9788why exactly is it a deal breaker? It's used in millions of vehicles without any issue whatsoever.

Honda kinda has some of the highest mainstream prices. The current Passport is absurdly priced IMO. I never understood why you wouldn't just pay that tiny bit more for the pilot. I'd assume pricing will be 1k more or less than the Pilot comparable equipped.
I just hope this gen passport will have it's own size for the wheelbase.

I've got my Cheddar Jalepeño Cheetos and my Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! At 9:15, I like smaller infotainment screens. My issue is that this screen, as I've said ad nauseam, is that it looks like it's from the Walmart toy aisle. Cheap plastic crap. I agree with Kirk, the climate control cluster down below is great. Don't touch it. As for the infotainment screen, lower it. Integrate it into the dash rather than on top of the dash. Flip the position of the infotainment screen with the air conditioning vents. Make the infotainment screen as invisible as possible, a slab of glass with thin bezels, like an iPad. Make the screen OLED with customizable color options. For instance, if you wanted to have an entirely black & white screen to minimize visual distractions, you can. If you wanted to have a pitch black screen with amber icons, text, and maps, you can. Infotainment screens have become crucial to the driving experience. Drivers constantly look at them and touch them. Both Honda and Toyota could invest a couple hundred dollars into making better infotainment screens and customers would gladly pay the extra cost.
Shortly after this comment, I was watching another UA-cam video: "BYD Yangwang U9: The Reasonably Priced Hypercar!" Check out the infotainment screen at 4:02 on that video. It exemplifies a better integrated screen. Still too big for my taste and it's not OLED, of course, nor does it have custom color modes, but you get the idea.
As for the outside of the Honda Passport, if there's a hood scoop or a vent, make them real and functional. Again, no fake cheap plastic crap that doesn't function.

You’re discussing the ridgeline and I got a 2024. I really wish they had put in the DOHC and 10 speed auto from pilot. The 9 speed is really all over the place with gearing sometimes.
I also wish they would take the midsize market by the horns and try to conquer it with some of the numbers. I think they could absolutely have the biggest payload number and should aim to do so. They beat just about ever truck in the midsize market once you add 4x4.
I also wish they would make a craftsman cab where they cut off the crew cab and turn it into a long bed truck. And add a third seat/ bench seat in the front. You can still put storage under the middle seat like a console. If they beefed up the payload to something like 2000lbs with a long bed and a third seat I think they would smash the competition. No one took it seriously because it was body on frame. Ever since the maverick people seem to respect the ridgeline more. I wish they would take advantage of this change in perception and make a true on road truck for blue collar worker.
They could have a craftsman configuration and a family configuration.
I also want them to finally add a hybrid powertrain to this light truck platform. Get with the program! EV sales are slowing and USA is too large and spread out for EVs under current technology.

Honda designers need to definitely make the design more off road and rugged on the Passport and the Ridgeline. They must get rid of that push button transmission also it is to slow to respond when switching from R to D especially when you trying to back a trailer into a small space and you have to keep making adjustments backing up and pulling forward to align the trailer just right. Another thing they need to do is make the Passport and Ridgeline Tow more than 5000 lbs - you cant really pull even a small travel trailer without cresting past the current 5000lb tow capacity without even trying

That is why I commend the Koreans for not making their vehicle lineups look all the same. I guarantee you Honda will still not add a panoramic roof to the new Passport. I'm not holding its breath on their "innovative" technology either. It's been lackluster as of lately. That 7-inch standard screen and 9- inch optional on the new Pilot is an example of its lagging technology.

I am just glad Honda is keeping their V6 for the time being. The Chevron plan has neutered the EPA, so I am hoping to see less of the downsizing. I wouldn’t want a loud 4 cylinder turbo in an SUV. I lost some respect for Toyota. They only still have me because of the Camry and Corolla.

@6:46 - The Ford F150 Raptor has the Amber DRLs as well, everyone loves those. I hope Honda keeps VTEC on this V6, and hopefully a hybrid model somewhere down the line. Or better yet, drop the same twin-scroll turbo that's in the TL Type S for extra towing power!
@10:21 - from the mouth of a car salesmen, "The push-button-transmission is due to the newer generation of drivers." So, Gen Z and Millennials grew up pushing buttons on iPads. So, automakers are catering to them, and when the buttons break, guess who Imma going to blame?!

Amber DRLs are becoming pretty common. They've been around for decades (a lot of older models, especially SUVs and trucks had amber incandescent DRLs). But they've really been taking off lately. Dodge Challenger, TRX, F150 Raptor and Bronco Raptor, and half of Kia's lineup all have them (pre-refresh Telluride, K4, K5, Carnival, Sorento). I see them all the time on Tacomas and Explorers (I think it can be done with stock headlights through software on these models). Not sure if they're stock or not, but half the BMWs and Audis I see have them too, not to mention tons of other vehicles with aftermarket amber mods.
Looks like pretty soon, amber DRLs might be more common than white ones. Which I'm fine with (IMO it looks good, plus stands out more in daylight, making them effectively better at their intended purpose).

I really hope Honda changes the PRNDL to a traditional lever like the new accord or move it to the stock because my family has the push button shifter in our 21 passport and its been absolutely horrible ever since day 1. It has a really bad delay everytime I switch from reverse to drive.

Not a fan of the new over-rugged 4 Runner. I need a reliable NE winter car, that can tow and carry around toys. Would be happy with a V6, more reliable Honda version of a grand Cherokee or Land Rover Discovey. Looks more boxy, super comfortable on a road trip.

Unlike vehicles like the Acura MDX/RDX or the Subaru Forester/Outback/Ascent etc where the rear hatch height is a MAX of 30”, the current Passport had a healthy hatch-area height that was SEVERAL inches higher.
In other words, to fit a boxy 31” large dog crate, the non-Passport others, simply will NOT work. I hope the new Passport will keep that hatch height, and not sneakily try to bring it down.

They also use Variable Cylinder Management on their V6 and it is still probelmatic as mileage climbs. I won't buy anything that has VCM.

I owned a 98 Accord V6 as my first car for four years and fell in love with the J series. Upgraded to a 2014 Accord V6 for the sake of having the last gen V6 Accord, and VCM made the driving experience so undesirable. I disabled it with a module and the car is a dream now-but I agree with your point. I would think that Honda would have improved the system by now or simply gotten rid of it.

Kirk, Do you think it will be similar size to the Pilot, just with 2 rows? According to some Honda employees that made comments to a posters on Reddit, they said it IS coming with a Hybrid. So will the refreshed Pilot. We should have a refreshed Pilot slightly before the new Passport and that should give us some clues. Honda doesn't do teasers for MMC's they just release it.
