Classic Civ experience for me at least - probably around 80% of my runs I never finish, because I've snowballed so much by the latter half of the game.
Yeah. Just clicking “next turn” without doing much work, and using most of the time to build up the greatest city to ever have existed on the planet! 😅
You could just have your capital city and have the rest be towns, so you kind of can do something similar in Civ 7. In fact, I see a challenge to see how high a population you can get your capital if you do this.
@@JimmyMon666 That is somewhat similar. But I dont know how effective that would be, having many towns may not be a good way of doing it and be more seen as a temporary thing before you make it a city.
Archipelago map is a doddle. Just rush frigates, then go around the map capturing all the capitals. But with my luck there would probably be no iron around Venice.
I love playing Venice. I usually get all of Patronage and Commerce and go for a Diplomatic victory. I also go for a lot of wonders since you can't build settlers. I also like to open the Honor policy to get the barbarian combat bonus. Plan to dominate the World Congress with the Forbidden Palace. You can't build Petra here, but definitely try for the Colussus, as you get 2 extra trade routes. I would have picked the faith generating stone circles pantheon.
Venice was always my favourite to play in Civ V. The reduced micromanagement, combined with the idea of being the power behind the throne of a lot of city states, was always very appealing.
The thing about Civ 5 is that the AI won't even really even try to win until you play on King difficulty. I've only ever lost 1 time on Prince, and that was because I forgot to pay attention to the end date of the game and I hit 2050 with the 2nd highest score. That being said, Emperor can be a bit challenging for people who are rusty, but the AI really struggles with the archipelago map, so it likely won't be a problem.
I wonder whether the Byzantium run got abandoned, or whether he forgot to finish uploading it again. I hope the latter. Either way this should be a fun series.
Indonesia is the perfect civ to settle next to you since they give a unique luxury resource for every city that they settle on a new land mass. Thats why their new city has +2 gold on its tile
In Civ 6 I don't tend to change my cities to production only focus. Instead you click on both production and food and then you manually lock the first couple of hexes yourself.
Venice is actually one of the rather strong civs. You don’t really need to do much and just grow your mega city. Especially on emperor. It’s basically solitaire. 😅
venetian was my most favourite civ out of ALL. Cant believe that its not playable in the 6 and that the mods dont work no more for it. Having a one-citied, but strong civ was the best! You guys know how to maybe play it somehow, in the civ 6?
More Civ V! Great! I too had forgotten how good this game was. I remember 4 well, I used to play it a lot, and 6 is of course the most recent, but 5 just has gotten a bit lost in the middle for me.
I know it’s not true, but doesn’t it always just feel like the map generation gives you good cities when you decide to/random Venice? I’ve rage quit a few times after seeing how insane my placements could have been 😂😂
@@Solus749 People have been modding games for decades, they help keep really good titles going for long past their expiration date. @@jebbb2 civ games net code was never good for multiplayer as it was a second thought. Civ 6 sort of solved it and the ages system in 7 is there to "keep it interesting". Not that ages worked well for the "civ killer" before it
I mostly watch Quill play EU4, Rimworld, Stellaris, and my personal favorite Civ 5. I hate Civ 6 and Civ 7 looked just as bad, so I'm very happy to see him doing 5 again.
Byzantium run hasn't been finished yet!

exactly what i thought
Quill, I love the idea of a new Civ 5 series (because I love that game), but please don't abandon the Byzantium series.
Love seeing Civ V videos in 2024
As a passive player, I loved Venice. Something about just focusing on one city felt unique and nice.
I hope there is something similar in CIV 7
Yeah. Just clicking “next turn” without doing much work, and using most of the time to build up the greatest city to ever have existed on the planet! 😅
@@TomJakobW Yeah, I hope civ 7 is gonna allow for more vertical cities.

Venice was always a great time.
Plenty of ways to play it and always a nice challenge.
Civ 5 is also, still, my most hours played Civ game.
❤

I loved playing Venice in Civ 5, can't wait for the rest of this series
I love new civ 5 content. Such a great game more than a decade later. Glad this game is still getting play throughs!

When you did your first Venice video years ago was the first video of yours I ever watch glad to see another playthrough.
Venice, my favourite Civ of all Civs in any Civ game. This is gonna be good!
Byzantium run. where is the end
Quill!!!! Byzantium run!! Don't leave us hanging!! I watched every episode!
I wonder whether the Byzantium run got abandoned, or whether he forgot to finish uploading it again. I hope the latter. Either way this should be a fun series.
Enjoying this a lot!

So much fun!! Thanks!
As Venice I always go for colossus asap. Guarantee win with the massive trade benefit. Win by commerce.
Civ V you get info on whenever a barb camp spawns as long as you adopt Honor
Before watching the episode.
Love me some more civ 5, but where are the byzantium episodes?
Venice was my absolute favorite!

This is my offering to the algorithm gods
Love that that title is actually Doge of Venice 😂
Wow
Wow AI straight up gave Quill a city.
Unique luxuries, whooo!

Have you thought about running a campaign in lekmod
What mod gives the changes to the UI? I can’t figure out which one on the workshop. Thanks to anyone who knows/answers.
Aint no way bro is playing venice 💀
Hi Martin!
Venice is the best civ in the game. Thanks for showing it off!
lmao the indo ai gifting you a city as venice in the hopes you beat the other ai that put it out
Commenting for the algorithm.

How was he able to get a great person so fast
Civ fiiiive
lol, the island even (remotely) has the shape of Italy - and Venice is remotely where it is irl!
Why don’t you play lekmod civilization 5?
lekmod is multiplayer balanced and lets be honets if you need a mod to play a game why are you playing it?

Petra for two trade routes
👍
Why are you saying Archipelago in that way?
Why not ARA? Not a single video on release makes one think it was paid by competitors for ignoring.
Why do you always settle before scouting? A step to the left would've give you 3 more resources
I swear Civ V is the most boring game ever.
32:54 I was soooooo waiting for you to complain about Indonesia's placement ot your - er, their - city =)
