There is not enough time for me to talk about how much I love this woman lol. I've seen a few episodes so far, and they are ALL winning me over (as usual).
For someone who is primarily an actress and activist, one might wonder if Sally Phillips would have a polished comic persona for this sort of thing. But it turns out Sally Phillips showed up with a very specific point of view 😂 and I think she is brilliant
@@DavidvsFilmso some background, Sally’s husband of 14 years ran off with her yoga instructor to her total surprise a matter of weeks before this started filming which is why she’d a little unhinged. Three kids, one with special needs, at home and her husband suddenly up and left. She said on the podcast she was near total breakdown at this point and did the show just to get out the house and not think about it for a while.
Yes, my favourite uploads right now!! This season's cast is so good, Sally Phillips is amazing and some truly hilarious moments. P.s the Irish girl is Aisling (Ash-ling), not Ashley 😃
Nish is one of my favorites just for his attitude. The way he played along with the editing was fantastic but since that only happened in studio, it means that all his celebration on camera after the task was after like 40 minutes of failure which makes it extra funny to me.
My first full series of the show! I watched a few clips on UA-cam, and then said, "Oh man Aisling Bea did an episode?? I have to see if I can find that." And that's when I discovered the contestants are there for a full series. After this, there was no hope for me. Still one of my favorite series.
Haha yeah, I think when this is all over, I need to go back on my own and rewatch from the beginning. I say that because I honestly cannot pick a favorite at this point. Every time I think I've found my "favorite season", the next one comes along and I'm like, Well damn.
Been looking forward to this so much. I had a particularly bad bout of insomnia the other night and rewatched your TM playlist, and love how you went from not being entirely sure about the show, to being totally invested. Also, I am not ashamed to say that I am a bit in love with Sally Phillips. She is the absolute right amount of mental.
Haha right?? Yeah, there's no hope for me now :) Completely invested. Sorry about the insomnia, btw. I go through bouts of it myself now and then, and it can really disrupt your life.
For some Context Mark Watson is one of Alex Hornes IRL friends, him Mark Watson and Tim Key from season 1 all used to do a show together called 'we need answers' and they do some stuff on youtube together too. This seasons great, one of the seasons were you laugh at everyone the same amount, no one really stands out ( at the tasks or the comedy ),the teams make sense etc
I'm guessing you're a fair few episodes into this series and I hope you're loving it! I've been a Bob M fan for 20 years, he has me in stitches with his silliness , I ❤ him 😂
Hey hey! Hope you're doing well :) Yeah, I have only seen the storyteller version of Mr. M, so I'm really enjoying the more impromptu, situational side to his comedy.
I love this whole cast. Sally Phillips has said since she was going through a divorce and Taskmaster gave her a place to go have fun. Bear this in mind going forward.
I know I’ve commented this before but I still can’t wait for you to see the last ‘task proper’ of this series, it’s my favourite ever task, and I can see from a few other comments that I’m not the only one looking forward to it!
Bob does a fishing show with his friend Paul Whitehouse. After Bob had a massive heart attack his friend thought the hobby of fishing might be relaxing. I think it’s called Mortimer and Whitehouse: gone fishing.
I think this is the first series with an outtakes video on the official taskmaster youtube channel. It's well worth a watch, even if it's just for you, or extra content. I love them all in this series, but Mark Watson especially. He goes on a real journey throughout.
Sally Philips is one of the most seemingly sane but actually quite insane people I have ever had the pleasure to see in action. She does some *wild* shit this season!
One thing about curly wurly's, they're a chocolate covered bar of toffee that are designed to look like two ropes wrapped around each other. I also ripped my loose tooth out with one as a child.
IIRC Nish said on the podcast that the moment he saw his successful basketball shot be played he knew exactly what was gonna happen, but that he thought it would be much funnier if he really leaned into it and celebrated again lol
Bob does do a fishing show, with another comedian and long time friend called Paul Whitehouse, called Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing. It's maybe the most relaxing TV show of all time, while also being very funny. It also really shows how beautiful the British countryside is. I highly recommend it.
Thank you! Yeah, I didn't know anything about Smack the Pony, and then a friend sent me one of the sketches, "Bottled Water Envy". I thought it was great!
This series really demonstrates how Taskmaster can make comedians appeal to anyone - I would never normally like Nish Kumar's comedy but in this he's hilarious and you root for him just like anyone else. Shout-out to Sally Phillips' sadly obscure series "My Favourite Sketch" on UK Gold (it's not even on Wiki or IMDB!) where she invites other comedians, including Bob Mortimer, to give their favourite sketches from others and finishes by re-enacting one with them in costume.
Hey David, S'up! 💜 I missed the notification for this, so I'm catching up now. I hope you enjoyed this new cast. You may recognise Sally from the 'Bridget Jones' films. She hilariously bonkers! -x-
What's up Keith! haha you're not kidding. I'm a few eps in at this point, and they are all winning me over handily. It's such a great team in the sense that the personalities are so wildly different (along with their comedic styles), and yet they all gel so well. Again, the casting director is for this show is just pure genius.
@DavidvsFilm they truly are a lovely bunch and must admit I do have a soft spot for Sally and bob😉 oh yeah by the way Bob's fishing show is also awesome with Mr Paul whitehouse. Take care x
So fun to watch your initial reaction to a new cast! Can't wait for you to get to know them all a little better. (Bob Mortimer is also a favourite of mine from his appearances on WILTY.)
Sally Phillips is down for anything and it's fun to remember as we go along that she is quite a religious Christian. Mark Watson is very old friends with Alex. Aisling is a deliciously salty angel.
@@DavidvsFilm there is a task that is the epitome of Mark but that is in episode 5 so a whiles away though episode two also gives us a task that is Mark explaining. Having watched all of taskmaster uk, nz, au, the english speaking seasons gets a bit what season has what cast for me
Ohhhh yes, thank you. I have only had some limited experience with his one-of-a-kind humor from WILTY, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this side of him.
David - NOT EVEN kidding ... I happened to be looking down at my desk for a second while watching this .... and you made me get up and see who was at my door at 12 minutes 42 seconds. LOL LOL I'm such a dork
I might be wrong but I believe at one point Sally said she'd just gone through a rather messy divorce prior to filming this, which explains some of her slightly out there behaviour at times (her words, not mine). It does explain her rather intimate cuddle with Alex.😊
yeah I got into watching Taskmaster when my marriage imploded around this time (although I didn't start watching until series 6) and remember reading Sally's had just ended when this was being filmed and honestly it made so much sense
Sweetheart, I highly recommend Taskmaster NZ (New Zealand, but I'm sure you guessed that). Now, their Taskmaster is no Greg Davies, BUT his Assistant and the players are AMAZING. It's hilarious.
I knew Sally from Bridget Jones, too. She was surprisingly funny in a sitcom I loved, Miranda. If you want to see a pre-Lucifer Tom Ellis... maybe give it a chance. The main character is played by Miranda Hart, but Tom's character is a main character, too.
Thank you! I have heard about 'Miranda', but I did not know that Sally and Tom Ellis were on it too- cool! I only know that it starred Miranda Hart, who I first saw (AND LOVED) in Spy with Melissa McCarthy. "Fifty Cent Piece!"
It would definitely be fun seeing you try some UK snacks. Get a PO box if you don't have one and someone's bound to send you some goodies! You said you like Cadbury chocolate, have you had the proper stuff? The Cadbury in the US is made by Hersheys unfortunately.
Maybe its good to know that Mark and Alex are very good friends for about 20 years… the awkwardness about the cuddle was very special 😂 together with Tim Key they are a friend trio. Filming “No More Jockeys” which is an unhinged UA-cam show they started during the pandemic. Based on a show they did for a small BBC channel way back.
I gotta tell ya, when I found out that Sally was a serious Christian - like, devout - unlike most of us who are more Christian-in-name and in vague belief, I was shocked because I remembered this season of Taskmaster. Utter disbelief.
Speak for yourself, there's more of us Christians in the UK than you'd ever hear about these days. But Sally is great, I especially liked her sadly obscure series on UK Gold where she invites other comedians to give their favourite sketches growing up and ends by eenacting one with them.
I can't stand Nish, he's beyond annoying! The person who finds Nish hilarious the most is Nish himself. Bob is a legend, but Sally has some great interactions with Greg in the studio this season.
@@The-Underbaker Awesome- yeah I’m already loving their dynamic (Sally & Greg). Re: Nish, I like him actually, BUT, I can completely see where you are coming from on that. 100%.
I’m watching series 18 right now, and I can confidently predict that you will absolutely adore Rosie Jones. (Not to put any pressure on you - I mean, you’ve got a while.)
