The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Is The Perfect Compromise Between A Truck & SUV

  • A Car-Truck is a weird thing that will grab the attention of buyers looking for something different. We haven't seen something like this since the Subaru Baja departed over a decade ago. For 2022, #Hyundai is reviving the UTE with the brand-new #HyundaiSantaCruz, this part SUV and part truck #SantaCruz utility vehicle should appeal to shoppers who can't decide between getting a truck or an SUV.

    I bought the Limited and really like it. Out runs, drives, tows, hauls and yes, cost more then the Maverick. Interior is Way more comfortable. Tech is way better. Display is clear, bright and fast. Self driving is next level. **After 2K miles I have not noticed any shutter whatsoever.

    From what I've seen the Hyundai is going to be the "better" vehicle. Drives better then the maverick, more premium options, better materials but it's also like 10k-15k more than the maverick. The maverick isn't trying to pretend it's a premium car for a budget it knows its a budget car and does a good job at it.

    • @macsterguy
      @macsterguy 2 роки тому +19

      I'm not sure I would agree. I bought the Santa Cruz limited and it's not pretending... It is a premium vehicle. It cost $41K+. The Maverick Lariat runs about 3K less at 38K+ (*NOT 10-15K more) But the Santa Cruz has more features.... The Cruz starts at 23K, the Ford at 20K but again the Santa Cruz has more features and much better warranty.
      All I can say is that anyone considering buying a Maverick should at least test drive the Santa Cruz for sure. I drove both and the Cruz is hands down the nicer trucklet!
      **Still both nice little trucks and along with a Honda ridgeline I think the numbers will prove that these new unibody small trucks are going to be very very popular moving forward! People that don't need a big truck now have more choice.

      Top of the line , the Santa cruz is 5 thousand more. It is the better built vehicle. The maverick already has a stop sales order on it. Malfunctioning rear seat belts or somthing. Big reason the maverick is cheaper is its not built as well but also the maverick is built in Mexico

    A Maverick Lariat Luxury package with the AWD cost over 35K. So this Santa Cruz is a really nice alternative. At most, its only 5K more expensive for WAY BETTER interior, materials, technology, driving assistance features, design, etc. My personal opinion is hybrid get the maverick, gas engine get the Santa cruz.

    I'm in love with the Santa Cruz! It's bold.. It's innovative...And it doesn't remind me of a truck, compares to the Maverick! All I can think when I see the Maverick is " Fleet truck". Which is nothing wrong if you own a business...However, I'm not a trucky person at all. I understand the Maverick packaging. Only offers push to start on the top Lariat trim. And no cruise control and power mirrors on the base XL. Just seems like the Maverick is offering 2012 features instead of 2022. I just think the Maverick will do well in fleet sales. Since Ford put a halt on the Maverick hybrid pre-orders for next year and dealers doing markups like crazy, that might persuade others to look elsewhere. And yes, the Ford Maverick is less expensive as the Santa Cruz. However, the Ford Escape Base trim cost $2000 more than the Hyundai Tuscon SE base trim...And the Tuscon is bigger, has more standard features, and slightly more horsepower. Which the Santa Cruz SE is priced as much as the base Tuscon.

    While the pricing is a little steep, this is hands down the perfect vehicle for me. It does everything a mid-50s male needs in a vehicle. Good power, good interior space, and a very flexible cargo space. While my old ass wishes it was a stick, at least it’s not one of those awful CVT’s! If it was more affordable, I’d be on it like flies at a picnic. I’ll wait a couple of years and pick up one used.

      Steep? Loaded its 40K. A base 4x4 crew cab full size start at that price. If you want cheap, you can go with a Maverick but that vehicle does have really poor quality, materials, etc which is fine as long as you don't care. Unfortunately many do which is where the Santa Cruz comes into play.

    I got to test drive a basic FWD with standard motor. The motor seemed peppy once rpm’s were screaming. I think programmed to remain in higher gear longer to save fuel, then not much in middle, then screaming and unpleasant. I shall do turbo. I was very pleasantly surprised to enjoy a more car-like ride and quiet inside. 6’2” tall and tons of front seat legroom, they could skinny the console and allow more width for legs. Seat all the way back and armrest is a little too short. I did fit my e-bike in back nicely and rather than buy $400 “extender” plastic thing, just use the secondary tailgate higher latch position, (side benefit, less paint 90 degree directly exposed to stones tossed from the road). I also will cover entire tailgate paint with clear plastic 3M paint protection and cable lock bike to be sure it’s not moving in any driving scenario. Couldn’t find any red flag so far. The bed closer to ground than Chev Colorado/Ford Ranger is very good for bike in and out, and those two are more truckish ride which I definitely do not want. Some UA-camr coined LOL thought on the outside view of the Maverick, “It looks like the truck that arrives when the pest control guy is called”. Spit coffee out LOL.

I would take the Ford Maverick over the Santa Cruz, and I would take the Ridgeline over the Maverick. That in-bed storage is about 1/4 the size of the ridgeline, which, fully loaded cost only a $3000 more.

I’m betting you will tell me God is a make-believe character for the weak to believe in. And I’m ready for it. All of you Scientology intellectuals who think you know everything don’t believe in God. You are crushed by your own wisdom. Yet you parish for your lack of knowledge. The Bible addressed it as well. So come back with something more foundational than any of that. Greta T can take a seat and live for a few more decades and learn something instead of shouting liberal talking points. The only reason people “pretend” to care about climate change is because there’s hundreds of billions and trillions of dollars for them to profit a little off of. It’s a massive redistribution of wrath strategy. Biden will be dead, HRC and Obama and Gore will be dead before they see their plans born out. AOC and Greta will probably still be alive in 50 years God help us all. Okay Michael you can drop the hammer on me now. I’ve thrown my pearls at the swine.

      For a lot of people 160,000 miles is enough, and the extra power of the turbo is worth it. Taking care of them well definitely enhance their lifespan, just don’t expect the same life you’ll get out of Camry.
