Welcome to another tools & help video, featuring the drum-tec electronic drum splitters!
If you are running a Roland TD-17, TD-15 or TD-11 sound module f.e., you might run short of trigger inputs rather quickly when starting to expand your kit with more cymbals and/or tom pads.
The drum-tec electronic drum splitters allow you to split a dual zone / stereo trigger input into two single zone / mono inputs, to then connect 2 pads (single zone functionality) instead of one. The procedure of splitting a tom channel into two is shown & explained in the video.
We have used two splitters finally to expand a drum-tec Jam TD-17 kit to a total of 5 toms & 4 cymbals, as shown in the drumming section of the video.
You can find the splitter cables & all other components in our online shop:

I also expanded my TD 17 KVX with drumsplitter but I have a problem with the threshold of the pads connected to the rim. Even if the threshold is set to 0 in the menu, the pad connected to the rim simply does not take light strokes. The same pad attached to the head works fine. Do you have any advice on how to solve this?

Will the splitter work for a 3 zone Roland ride cymbal? I have 1 extra output jack coming from my Roland drum module. It contains the ride cymbal sounds. I want to buy a Roland Ride Cymbal and connect it to that output jack, but the problem is that I need 2 output jacks from my module to gain the 3 zone functionality of the cymbal...

Does anyone know if a "RDB" (ride bell) jack on the TD-17's cable snake can be used for an additional crash?

@@Tom-sd2vi Here is a workaround that might make your soundman a little happier: On your playing-out kits, pan all of the "high" drums like your snare, cymbals, hi-hat and maybe the highest tom full left, and then all of the "low" drums full right. This will give your soundman two channels where he can at least make some broad EQ decisions like high-passing the left side so there isn't a lot of unnecessary rumble in the PA. Not perfect, obviously, but I've used it in clubs and the FOH guys like it better than having to do a full-range mix on the entire kit. You could also pan everything left except the kick and floor toms, which is the same idea but lets your soundman really optimize the kick sound for dance clubs.

If we're splitting the signal, the splitted cables (for eg. tom4 & cymbal 4) don't need to be TRS , correct ?

Problem is I find it hard to actually split anything... You can split the Tom to a crash, but then the crash looses the ability to choke and only has 1 zone... You can split toms to other toms, but you can't hit them at the same time... These systems were simply not designed for ease of use in getting more out of the system than what they give you.

What works is if I play splitted toms 3/4 with a slight flam starting from the right hand on tom 4, not the other way around though. So the best suggestion would be to keep splitted tom pads as far away from each other as possible (f.e. tom 1 and tom 4), so you don´t feel the need to play them at exactly the same time. Sorry for the confusion, what I was having in memory was that those slightly flammed strokes on two toms work. Kind regards!

drumtecTV Have you tried a basic splitter with the TD-17? I ask because I am using a separate TD-3 to trigger the TD-17 Tom rims. I have the TD-17 Tom rims set to a 4th Tom, a 5th Tom and a crash. They can play simultaneously with their associated Tom. The crash even has Choke working. It seems to work better via MIDI than splitting the triggers. I am wondering if the resistor in the splitter is not needed with the TD-17. I have to route the TD-3 into cubase then out to the TD-17 via USB. A Kenton USB Host could make that connection directly but it is cost prohibitive.

I'm trying to split the aux signal (tom) from my TD17 with an added CY5 hi hat. No matter what I try in the settings, I continue to hear both the tom and cymbal in both. Hi Hazio, the splitters work best with dual piezo pads, so as shown in the video you can split toms getting 2 single zone toms out of one dual zone tom input & use free dual zone inputs for your cymbals. For more questions please get in touch through service@drum-tec.de! Kind regards

I’m trying to use a splitter cable for my Roland SPD-SX for 2 different triggers going into one input. Would this cable work in that circumstance?

Doesn't look like the sound is matching the strike? There looks and sounds to be a delay?

Hi Tony, don´t know what you mean, maybe you have to check your video/audio settings for playback. In some cases, youtube might display a video with the audio being off synch. Everything is clearly in synch here, kind regards!

So I can take a "stock" td17kvx or the atv drum Tec exs with the td17 module and add a fourth floor Tom in aux input , a third crash in crash2 input then split tom 1&2 rims for 2 splashes then split Tom 3&4 rims for 2 China's

Hi Jeffrey, no unfortunately splitting tom rims to cymbals won´t work satisfactory. You can split 2 toms into 4 toms and then use the free inputs for 2 additional dual zone cymbals. Everything else won´t be working on the full dynamic range. For more info, please get in touch through info@drum-tec.de Kind regards!

What's the small extra Tom running to? Could I just have another cymbal there instead?

Hey Mickey, the splitters do work with Roland cymbal pads, but not quite as well as with dual zone pads. Split cymbal pads will not provide quite the full dynamic spectrum (only the higher velocities work well). Kind regards!

So glad you’re doing splitters now!
But so i’m clear when you to it you can’t both pads at the same time? Or it’s ok?

No that only triggers the edge (cymbal in most cases)
