I love using spinners. #3 in small parts and #4 in larger/deeper parts. Cranks work well for me in the harbors. I gotta try them more in the rivers, but I'm afraid to snag them up. I'm going to have to try taking off that front hook like you said. Small spoons and paddle tails have also worked for me when everyone else is throwing other stuff. Great content. We gotta hit the rivers together this fall/spring.
Thanks so much man, appreciate your support and kindness! I never thought of trying paddle tail Swimbaits before, I am definitely gonna have to give that a shot ! As for Crankbaits, you may lose a few but if you use shallow diving models like shallow model Berkley Flickershads, Storm Thundersticks, Storm Hot n Tots, or Rapala Husky Jerks & Originals , you get far less snags than you’d expect. The removal of the belly hook helps for sure, because they always attack the bait from behind or total smash it. I work the bait just barely fast enough to get it down in the current wiggling . I like when I can keep the bait down and still get it wiggling just with the current velocity alone. It irritates the hell out of the fish when it’s wiggling in place, but I’ve had them rush the lures moving past them as well like a Pike or Bass. The cohos and browns definitely respond the most to cranks I’ve noticed, the Kings as well but it seems cohos and browns really like them.
Hey, thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I used to get my supplies from Reinke Bros on Milwaukee’s south side, but sadly it’s closed now after the owner Bob Reinke sadly passed away. I stocked up on so many materials from Reinke Bros that I haven’t needed to buy any more since. So I am still looking for a place to get supplies locally, online you can find multiple sources for spinner components and shop around for the best deals. That’s basically my way of finding parts and components nowadays is shopping around online. I get some of the thread, tying supplies, and hair from J. Stockard Fly Fishing company online, excellent source for fly tying supplies which I also use when making buck tail or marabou tails on my spinners. I should deep dive online and find the best deals , post in my description, and find deals on parts so I can help you all find a connection to them as well. Like I said it’s been so long since I bought any components. I bought so many blades, clevises, and bodies from Reinkes in the past you’d think I was working for Mepps themselves 😆.
I will definitely do a video sometime soon tying the Wooly Bugger jigs. I started using them after seeing fly fisherman casting Wooly Bugger and Egg sucking Leech flies, and I had the lightbulb 💡 go on in my head and started tying them on jigs. I’ve caught every species of trout and salmon in Wisconsin on those jigs, inland and Great Lakes fish. There’s even times Smallmouth Bass take an interest in them as well in certain situations. But I basically searched for info on how to tie the Wooly Bugger fly, and just adapted it to a jighead design. Learning how to tie a wooly bugger fly teaches the basics of tying so many fly patterns, you can let your mind run wild with designs, colors, weights, and modify patterns to your preferences. Thanks for watching the video, and I’ll try to get a jig tying tutorial out soon ! Good luck fishing 🎣
Bro im a newbie to salmon because I basically focus on all panfish because they're rewarding and taste damn good lol. But you broke everything down well so i can knock these fuckers off my bucket list. Im gonna try a few techniques mainly with lures. Spinners, cranks and even my flyrod with a wooly bugger
Hope these tips help you hook into some drag screaming Salmon! They’re an absolute blast to battle! Let me know how your salmon fishing adventures pan out for you! Panfish are a blast and indeed tasty, I love catching them as well which you will see if you watch the rest of my content. I love catching big panfish almost as much as I love catching giant predatory species. Good luck Salmon fishing! 🎣
