How to Make Fluorocarbon Tip Up Leaders for Pike!
This is an in-depth tutorial on how to make fluorocarbon tip up leaders for northern pike and other toothy fish. I explain what strength of fluorocarbon to use and why, what brands of fluorocarbon that I have found work the best, and what size hooks to use. I demonstrate how to tie the canoe man knot and I also provide a good tip on how to store your leaders for quick access while on the water.

Fishermen Almost KILLED By EF3 Tornado...No Fish is Worth Your Life!
Переглядів 767День тому
In this video, I talk about a video I saw of two fishermen and their dog who were almost killed by an EF3 tornado that occurred recently on December 28th 2024 while bass fishing in Texas. I show the footage that was captured by this fisherman and go over my thoughts on why no fish is worth risking your life for. I also pay a small tribute to two friend's of mine who passed away from a boating a...

    there must be something wrong with the one that I bought. The center spindle shaft doesn't stay in that middle position. It slides up and down really easily which just didn't sense to me, but I see yours has the part that you hook the flag shaft on stays about 4" above the base. Mine drops right down to the base

      Thanks for your comment and taking the time to watch the video. Sorry to hear you had problems with your tipup, call Beaver Dam company and tell them your issue and they’ll probably just replace it . Sometimes products can leave a factory defected, or something happens during shipping and so on. Beaver Dam make very good quality tipups, most guys say they’re the best. I can’t say how long the plastic round tipups will last, but the old school wooden Beaver Dams last forever. And I hear they make the wooden and plastic tipups with the same hardware for the spool and spindle. Let us know what Beaver Dam does to help you with the issue. Hope it works out!

      We think it’s some sort of species of owl, but all of the sounds we researched still don’t match up 100%. So it’s still a mystery! Either an owl or a Sasquatch 😆. We heard a lot of weird noises in the woods that night, but this was the only one we caught loudly on camera.

      @WeckerleOutdoors 3 дні тому

      Thanks for your support, and as for a 4000 size reel it should be good for most coastal species. I use my 3000 size reels for King Salmon and they fight like no tomorrow and take long drag screaming runs peeling line off your reel. So a 4000 size should work well for you! Good luck fishing 🎣

    I have never had a pike bite through fluro , mono and braid on the other hand…. 😂 different story. One of the most fun fish for sure! I’ll need to give ice fishing a try one of these days

    • @WeckerleOutdoors
      @WeckerleOutdoors 3 дні тому

      I love fluorocarbon because of the sheer strength and abrasion resistance. If I were to use a mono leader it would probably be Trilene XT or Berkley Big Game, I use that stuff a lot on my bait casting reels and it’s very abrasion resistant. But nothing beats a good fluorocarbon leader, especially fishing in clear water. I usually go with fluorocarbon leaders for most of fishing applications, or titanium leaders when I’m Pike fishing depending on lure or technique. Thanks for watching, good luck ice fishing! 🎣

      Would love to hear your story sometime! That sounds absolutely insane and scary, you never think it’ll happen to you until it actually does. Glad you’re okay and still here to tell your story! I always say use precautions , be mindful of the conditions and situation, and never say it’ll never happen to you! Sometimes people do things in life that risk themselves and everyone else’s safety as well. Like when people have to get rescued off of thin ice when they fall through walking or driving on it, risking the lives of the rescue teams who have to save them. Or people take boats and yachts out in bad weather conditions on rough waters. Sometimes it’s not only our own safety but also the safety of others we have to think about. Thanks for watching the video and sharing your thoughts!

    Great vid! One sneaky bait for Musky is the Bomber Drumbeater. It’s not a huge bait, but the thump of that blade attracts a ton of attention. I use a 5 inch FF minnow from Yum or 5 inch Sparkshad. That thing catches big pike too!

      I catch a lot of Pike on spinnerbaits, Swimbaits, and even panfish sized stuff like the old school Johnson BeetleSpin. That Drum Beater bait is definitely one I’ll have to try. Looks like a large Beetle Spin with a swimbait basically, definitely be a solid Pike lure around my area! Thanks for the suggestions and the support! I’ve been doing well this Fall on Lunker City Ribsters in 4” , and Lunker City Shakers in 4.5” sizes! The Core Tackle “Tush” swimbait jig is an awesome addition when using those soft plastic swimbaits! Now I’m waiting for ice to form on the lakes so I can do some ice fishing safely, but now they’re calling for 40-50 degree temps again. Been rough finding safe ice or open water lately so just been trying to get some videos done, some fishing projects, and prepare for the new year! Happy Holidays and Good Luck fishing! Great vid! I spend my summers up in Iowa and this summer i drove over to WI and I stayed in Minoqua for a few days and fished there. Over by the post office and that big train trestle that is now a footbridge I fished under it and caught a few largemouths on an old school Big O🏆 I stopped by the Muskie Shop and got a few lures and stickers. This coming summer I’ll be up there fishing as usual. It would be cool to meet up and do a collaboration video🏆🎣

    • @WeckerleOutdoors
      @WeckerleOutdoors Місяць тому

      Minoqua is absolutely beautiful, my favorite town in Wisconsin! I am very familiar with the bridge you fished Bass at, I lost a 4-5lber this past May up there by that bridge. Some serious snags around that bridge but that’s why so many Bass gather under it! I was just tossing Rapala X Raps and Wacky Worms around the bridge and caught my Bass there. I’ll have to try some shallow diving crsnkbaits like that Big O you mentioned next time I hit that spot. The Musky Shop is also fantastic, but hard going there without spending a couple hundred bucks . I always try to pickup 1 or 2 musky baits to add to the collection when I’m up there. I usually go up in Spring , and again late summer before October and the fishing can be good. Mid summer it gets so hot and buggy , and the pleasure boaters and tourists become a nightmare on the lakes. We may be able to cross paths and collaborate someday on a video, I unfortunately don’t get up to northern WI as much as I would like to but there’s plenty of places to fish all over the state of WI. Good luck fishing and thanks for your support! I subscribed to your page as well!

I do wish they were a little smoother when reeling baits straight and steadily, but they are lightweight, the drags are amazingly smooth, and the reel functions smoothly overall. For the price I am liking them a lot, and the lightweight carbon construction is comfortable to fish with. Can’t complain with a lightweight reel with smooth drag and 10 ball bearings for under $80! Enjoy! 🎣

    Love the video and thanks for posting it. What are your thoughts on changing your hook size based off of the size of the bait (#4 for small to medium sized shiners and #6 for larger ones) Does it make a difference?

    • @WeckerleOutdoors
      @WeckerleOutdoors Місяць тому

      Personally my preference when fishing with for small shiners shiners would be a size a 10 treble hook, and for medium shiners a size 8 . For a larger shiner minnow like a large or jumbo shiner I would use size 6-8, the smallest hooks you can get away with are best for a more natural presentation and lively presentation. You don’t want too large of a hook because it can cause fish to carry away and drop the bait, or cause more damage to the fish. I used to run size 4 for medium and large shiners but I found a lot more dropped baits and damage to the fish. Also, either bite off or snip off the tail of your shiner minnows with a scissors, it helps them struggle more and attracts a few more bites in my experience. Thanks for your support, and good luck fishing!

      No I wasn’t using them in saltwater, I fish freshwater here in the Midwest and Wisconsin. I am not sure what made the smaller sizes seize up , I make sure to never allow any dirt or debris ruin my reels. But the other sizes of the Trion treated me well.

      With all due respect it’s not easy to find anything not made in China or overseas in this country, and even a lot of USA made products have parts made in China as well. As a consumer I like saving money, and buying the best quality for the money I can find and afford. Thanks for your input, hope you enjoyed the video, and good luck fishing! 🎣

      I am not talking about made in China. I am talking about owned by China. There is a huge difference.

    I had to go with the older version just to get the 4000 size, wish they made a 4500 size in the version 2. I have the CarbonX II 3000, nice and smooth just got both a month back for fresh and inshore 7' m f , 7' h f 15 and 20 lb ultracast X8. nice work guys!

      I am loving the Carbon X reels so far, but it is unfortunate they haven’t made a 4000 size yet in the Carbon X2 lineup. But for King Salmon and big Trout on Lake Michigan the 3000 size has held up well and holds a good amount of line. Those King Salmon are drag screamers , so you need at least 225-250 yards of line to keep things safe and not get spooled. I am really happy with the reels after 1 solid year of frequent use, no real issues yet so hopefully the quality of the reels holds up for the years to come. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment, appreciate it!

    When I still hunted I went in some of the harshest weather ever! But for fishing, nah. If the temp drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit I'm staying home!

      I don’t personally hunt, but I definitely love fishing during the Fall. But the older I get the less I want to spend time in the harsher elements. Then again, when big fish are biting I have no problem with most weather conditions. I can handle the cold pretty well, but there’s weather I used to fish in years ago I won’t even dream of going out in anymore. But I find in Fall, the colder it gets the better fishing gets, so I don’t mind braving the conditions. Less guys out on the water is also a bonus! Good luck fishing and hunting!

      Yeah we get some crazy cold fishing conditions here in the northern hemisphere, so hopefully the info helps anyone dealing with frigid temperatures. Glad you enjoyed the video, great to see people around the world enjoying the video content! I hope to visit Australia someday! Thanks for watching and sharing your comment!
