Besides that I would say 'Dc Horror Presents: Creature Commandos' is a worth while read. Its 6 issue mini fhat has 4 issues out rn. Its more classic team composition than Gunns version tho.

The fact they had over a DECADE to get something together and waited until Marvel had effectively killed the genre with oversaturation and then decide now is a good time to build a massive multi-film/year story? Literal slowpoke meme material.
To be fair they tried, bale batman was supposed to be the main batman but christian bale refused to return for the role, man of steel was not a comic accurate superman but they could have changed that in The subsequent movie but they messed it up for recasting batman, its like the more they tried to fix things the worse it got, then the whole ezra fiasco happened, while they were recovering from that, The rock adam burnt it down to ashes whatever hope was left. Its funny and tragic at the same time

When these guys popped up in my feed, I was curious and looked into the video. And to be honest, they sound like they know what they’re talking about. When they’re describing everything about creature commandos I was like oh no, we’re starting this new DCU and it’s already going to be a misstep. I was curious about creature commandos I hadn’t seen it yet and I’m ready to start this new universe. I don’t have a max subscription, so I’m limited to hearsay. Do yourself a favor and check it out yourself. I’m hyped for the new Superman movie. I saw the trailer and it’s gotten me super excited. Listening to these guys it really just deflates your whole enjoyment in what’s to come with this new universe. So I asked a friend with a max subscription so I can see creature commands for myself and find out what it’s all about. And boy if I wasn’t excited before I am really excited now with what’s coming. Stay away from these guys stay away from this channel they do not know what they’re talking about.

I understand DC/Warner Brothers really needs to distance themselves from Marvel in terms of reinvigorating interest in superhero movies but throwing out a unknown team as the starting point for your “brand new” cinematic universe is just dumb. Peak DC movie/animated storytelling was the Justice League Dark series. It was adult, it took chances, characters weren’t afraid to be themselves, great interactions between personalities. It was just very good overall.
And WB proceed to hire a Marvel director for to "take distance" from Marvel 🤦♂️

The problem is that he is cherry picking his own stuff from the previous universe and a lot of those characters already interacted with characters and events that are canon to the previous universe. So yeah, the timeline is pretty messy.

I’m hoping I’m wrong and Superman is good unfortunately I don’t think I will be. Superman is just going to be another one of his ensemble films. He can claim they are important to the story or that according to him it isn’t an ensemble film but all signs point to the opposite plus he’s lied before. Again I hope it’s good I was a fan of the story Zack snyder was going to tell besides a few minor plot points. I just hope James Gunn actually focuses on the important characters not minor obscure characters he likes to do and has already announced.

The Original Authority was my favorite comic back in the old days of good stories. Gunn won't do them justice, just look at what he did to Adam Warlock, hell even Vigilante. Gunn is a character destroyer.
I'm really on the fence knowing how they'll take Midnighter and Apollo. Midnighter is basically a rage fueled Batman who doesn't mind getting the job done....but...we already know what they'll choose to focus on.
Especially in a world that has The Boys and a populace that is really tired of these nihilistic, “edgy” anti-superheroes.
I mean, if the new Superman movie is gonna be, “Let’s return the world to an optimistic place again from all this,” then well-played Gunn. Problem is I don’t think he’s capable of doing that.

The big difference is that all the big name characters had appeared and paved the way. He's starting from scratch and he leads off with The Creature Commandos(which had the wrong characters and setting for that team)?
Now I see set pics of Superman, and it looks like an ensemble piece as well. WB will never have any success until they put the DC movie universe in the hands of someone who knows it and isn't a "quirky, I'm the smartest guy in the room" type and leads off with their main characters, not someone who is barely visible on the splash page from Crisis On Infinite Earths.
The biggest problem is that we've lost a lot of talents that would have been a good fit for this position (Denny O'Neil, George Perez) but someone like Chuck Dixon might be an interesting choice. Ideally, you would pair a comics guy with a movie making guy, like a Jon Favreu or Joe Johnston even.
I've just had enough of Hollyweirdos who only want to deconstruct or subvert expectations. Show us our favorite heroes doing heroic things and make it a spectacle of a movie and I guarantee fans will come back.

James Gunn’s humour has been stale as shit since Guardians vol. 3.
This style of premise with the rag-tag edgy team has been written 3 times now.
Even more exposed if you count stuff like The Boys.
People are hoping Superman will be a more sincere film and that the humour will be less boring, irreverent, self-aware shit. People are tired of the cynicism. Creature commandos was not the project to lead with. Not in this state. Would’ve been better to be more like the recent Doom Patrol, which had the balls to be sincere with the weird cast of characters.
People like to diagnose a lot of current humour in movies as “Joss Whedon humour”. That was never really fair because Joss knew how to be funny. Nowadays, everyone is imitating Gunn, for sure.

You can say that again. Whedon is quite talented at blending humor and solid dramatic gravitas and pathos. To whit, any random episode of Firefly puts Gunn's vapid cotton candy and cheese whiz "Guardians" shlock to shame.

Brother, I'm a normie and have no clue who these guys were and yet I watched Creature Commandos and enjoyed it. Its nothing special and I'm aware that kind of writing happened with Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad but it was still rather enjoyable. Even as s normie I was interested in these characters cuz I'm aware that DC is more than just Batman and Superman. I cannot wait to see you guys reel back when he writes a good Superman movie. Either that or I'll come back to this comment if the movie is gonna suck and I'll admit defeat lol.

WB made two huge mistakes with the DCEU (aka Snyderverse).
1) They gave Zack Snyder, a successful yet niche director with a very specific style and taste, cart blanche to craft an entire multi-film cinematic universe with iconic characters that have very devoted fans who expect certain standards to be met. They did this without ever considering that maybe, just maybe Snyder's particular style and tastes aren't suited for some or even many characters in DC.
2) When Snyder's efforts proved unsuccessful (or rather not successful enough as all his movies made money. They just weren't pulling in MCU numbers or the positive critical and fan reactions) they decided to oust him about a 1/3 of the way through his proposed outline and go forward with a slap dash roster of movies with the aim of sidelining Superman and Batman as well as lacking the distinctive tone Snyder had already established.
The end result was a disaster for WB and DC on film and could've been mitigated by simply having Snyder wrap up his proposed timeline early. I doubt the movie(s) would have been good, but it would have been a clear and direct end to that cinematic universe and allowed for a clean, fresh start going forward.
Now, in order to course correct, WB has given James Gunn, a successful yet niche director with very specific style and taste, cart blanche to craft his own multimedia interconnected universe.
Well, we'll see.
Cant fault WB for ur 1st point. Snyder was recommended by Nolan, WB's golden goose himself. I too was excited for Snyder at first, since I love his Watchmen. But he utterly butchered Superman in MoS, & I immediately abandoned ship, as did many other DC fans.
@kimmycat2977 I can and do blame WB. Granted, you make a fair point. Especially because Nolan didn't just recommend Snyder he acted as a producer on MoS, BvS, and JL, so I'm sure they believed that his involvement even as small as it is would still benefit those movies.
However, that's still no excuse to give so much power to a single guy. It's one thing for a director to craft a successful trilogy around a single character over 6 years like Nolan did, and quite another to create an entire cinematic universe with multiple characters in multiple films all slated to release within 1 to 2 years of each other and both tie into and lead into tent pole team-up movies.
WB was so desperate to recreate the MCU's success, yet they never actually looked at how the MCU operated. Despite the gaslighting by entertainment journos, Kevin Feige was not the architect of the MCU. For one, he was regulated by Ike Perlmutter and the Marvel Story Group. Secondly, it was the writers and directors who did much of the heavy lifting, and they were successful because they actually liked the characters and weren't interested in reinterpreting them in ways that were ultimately off putting at best, or at the very least they were checked by the story group.
When Feige ousted Perlmutter and dissolved the story group, he then proceeded to tank the MCU. Proving that the whole cinematic universe undertaking is too big for one guy. WB from the start should have copied the MCU playbook. A guy or group to make sure the money is well spent and that the projects have a high probability of profit. A guy who knows the industry and can line up the various talent necessary as well as provide cohesion between different projects. Lastly, talented writers and directors who can not only craft their own films but also meld those films with those by other directors.
Snyders works were an abject disgrace. my god, i wish id never seen any of them

I've actually never seen that movie. I can enjoy most of the Snyderverse for the action and iconography, but yeah, they are not good movies, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone other than normies who are curious about them.
Personally, I would say the only genuinely good movie of Snyder's is 300. Of course, that movie is basically the cinematic equivalent of paint by numbers as 90% is a shot for shot adaptation of the comic, so yeah.
The Dawn of the Dead remake is ok too, I guess.

But the quality of his movies have fallen off a cliff ever since he started having story input. & weirdly, he duzn wanna let up. It started with Sucker Punch. If Im not mistaken, Sucker Punch was an original idea by Snyder and it was pure nonsense. His ego boosted by his dedicated fanbase, just makes him keep chugging on as a "writer". Army of the Dead, written by Snyder was also complete trash. Remember, David S. Goyer who wrote the Dark Knight trilogy with Nolan, revealed in an interview that his original script for MoS was significantly changed (not by himself), in favour of more action. To this day, I wonder what Goyer's screenplay for MoS was like. Was it a lot less dumb than the final product? We'll nvr know. All we know is that Snyder thinks his own MoS & BvS are masterpieces, from how he spoke at his private fan screening event.

When you make an adaptation of a comic book you tweak source material it so it's acceptable to the general public. You think the people who saw infinity war in theatre's cared that Thanos goal in the comics was to impress Mistress Death? No. James Gunn knows what people care about and want to see lol.

I don't get it. It's just Suicide Squad with a different name. But with Gunn's The Suicide Squad, I think I knew more about those characters in the first ten minutes than I do from two episodes of this show.
Yeah that’s how movies typically work. You have to learn more in two hours since that’s all the time they have. Shows are normally 10-12 hours long so they spread story out more to keep you engaged and keep the pacing making sense

1. The right's tolerance for being poked fun at has run out so Gunn torpedoed lots of viewers within first 10 minutes of the show. I almost turned the show off to find something else to watch but was too curious of how much more Gunn was going to screw up.
2. The self insert of the fantasy of a reluctant 40+ aged man being seduced and bedded by a 20 something woman is cringe inducing.
3. Dr. Phosphorus and Weasel do not belong in the Creature Commandos. They should have been Vincent Velcro(Vampire) and Warren Griffith(Werewolf)
4. For a guy that is supposed to be edgy, I was a little surprised he kept the dumb Universal Frankenstein's monster rather than the intellectual monster from Shelley's story. That would have been an interesting twist though I guess the Bride will get that treatment even though the movie didn't show any indication she would be that way.
5. The necrophilia scene was gross and cringe inducing.
6. Seeing the monster during WW 2 just enforces why this show is missing the mark. The original team in that period would have been way better. Plus Sgt. Rock and Easy Company could have been featured as guest stars as well. Maybe the arc could have been the Commandos going after the spear of destiny or a way to introduce Ratzi super villains. Could of been the band of brothers animated show.
7. Not sure why the monster is still going after the bride. During the Universal series the hermit showed the monster learning fire could be good so I figure the monster would have moved on by now. Just seems to be a stupid joke played out so long.
