Thanks for watching, from all of us at Matt's off-road recovery!
I about died at the flashback where Matt is like "We'll ignore that and just wait for a catastrophic failure in the mountains". I mean, he wasn't wrong lol. Glad you guys got it handled!
When I saw the thumbnail that's the exact moment I thought of. I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm glad it's in there 😂😂😂😂
We knew it was coming.
Ya. That was hilarious!!! Probably too soon to give him much grief about it right now.
😂

Right 👍🏽 or it wouldn't be Matt's off-road recovery 😂🤣😳
As an old sno-cat operator, one suggestion. Long ratchet straps. Wrap them length wise around the tracks to keep them on the sprockets. Good luck, love ya all
Fantastic idea.
I had an idea to wrapp the ratchtet around the wheel to substitide the tire.
also I heard him mention foam filler tires. they ride harder than air but are light years better in terms of maintenance and reliability. I will never have air tires on my cat again.
They don't have even T-shirts on that thing !!! You really think that Matt will have rachet Straps!?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Get off one of the wheels in the middle... And mount it in the back, to keep the track tight... (could have) LE: that thing has got a tensioner (big screw)
I’ve never really seen Matt mad, flustered and frustrated… I feel his pain but love to see even he is human. Best of luck guys, things will get better!
Matt is one of the calmest, most even-keeled person that I know. A very impressive 👏 trait and much needed in a stressful business such as vehicle recovery. Matt is able to handle a lot and never afraid to admit if he's made a mistake.
@@jamestodd5018 I have a friend like him, and his father. Both don't react without thought, but they are Tennessee/Virginia raised. Maybe just a type of personality.
@@TRKISH324 so very laid back, I used to be like that in my early years and then somewhere around age 40 I gradually started to grow out of it, became more intense or hyped up and I miss it. Right around the time I married my first wife. Oh well, we were all born to experience change.
I have to admire how their attitudes were in the midst of it... they all remained positive, didn't let anger, blaming, etc. take over. A testament to the quality of people they are and the type of family life that Matt and Jamie created.
I'd be cussing and throwing stuff.
Matt strikes me as a guy thats learns from doing things the hard way. If you do things the hard way often if you tend not to get too worked up when things go sideways on ya.
As a Canadian I'll share my mother's advice: when you go out, always dress as though you're going to be walking home, because sooner or later you will have to. You guys are not dressed to be out in -15C! Good job as always though.
No cold weather gear ! ????
Rule #1 when traveling in the north country be prepared to walk! Smart mom
That’s good advice.
I came here to say the same thing. It saved my bacon once.
Didn't look too windy though, always have a few candles in the survival bag . Crack a window light a few , surprised how much heat they make.
The trust between Matt and Rudy is so cool. It is obvious they have spent hours working together.
Rudy's whole life.

100%, no matter what went wrong, you remained focussed on getting the customer to warmth and safety.
Matt carrying the sleepy kid to the truck was sweet. Even with a rough night he still shows his humanity and kindness for his customers and team. You all did a great job with a bad situation.
And do note - they remained focused on the task of recovering the customer's vehicle before they dealt with their scenario.
Did the customer give you Matt a tee shirt for his truck helping rescue Matt? 🙂
It's when everything turns to crap, you find out who people REALLY ARE.......This is my favorite channel.......Hands down!
Wow. Way to dig in and power through! It takes a lot of discipline to stay cool and on-task in situations like that, much less be self-aware and joke about it! Hope Rudy enjoyed his long Sunday nap!
It's not what happens to you but how you react to what happened to you. So, you just suck it up and make the best of a bad situation. Pissing and moaning will only make it worse.
Discipline? 🤦🏻♂️ Discipline would be fixing your tools. Making sure “catostrophic failures” never happen on the job. When a family with little kids are stuck and need to be rescued. Discipline would be filling up you vehicles with gas and keeping them full so you don’t run out of gas on rescues. Discipline would be eating food that wasn’t prepared in a gas station. This isn’t discipline. Lol! This is constantly having to deal with your own stupidity.
That Morvair is so damn impressive. From sand to rock to snow, it's just so all around capable it's nuts.
I am simply amazed at how versatile it is, and how well it handles that deep snow - without chains! I want one!
I know this mishap was bad, but remember the many people your team has rescued. Without dedicated people like Matt's, there would be a lot more sad stories on the news. THANK YOU MATT AND TEAM.
For sure with all the idiots that since the pandemic think they want to go "off grid" or venture into the mountains with ZERO friggin clue as to what they're actually doing...I can gaurantee you that in the last 2 years his business has gone through the roof 10 fold..
Solid statement!
@@dieseldabz7104 i am one of those idiots. Way out in the desert . Had a bad drop with bike after endo. The crevice was a bit deep and wide. I dropped front tire. Anyways it came down bent shift lever. But also bent the stamped steel inside. It shifted up not down. Nothing worse than oops I'm in top gear! There just happened to be 1 soul out there hobby mining that had a 4x4 and motorcycle carrier. By car it was a 3 hour drive north and then out to I-40 and then down to Lake Havasu. My angel got a meal, a hotel, and a large wad of cash! My sxs friend brought my van up from Bouse to Lake Havasu the next day to pick me and bike up. I broke on the back side of Lake Alamo! Bad things happen. Equipment fails.
My lesson is that when lead guy is lost. Speeding up slowing down..... just turn around. I was paying more attention to him than crevices.
To Matt and his team, I was just in the North Carolina mountains on Sunday when a snowstorm came through and dropped 6-8 inches of snow where I was, but 20 inches 10 minutes south. My buddy's truck got stuck, and because of these videos I knew just what to do. Air down, traction control off so our lockers would engage, ended up having to tow him 2 miles down the mountain *I have 4wd and he dosnt*, used the uca to pull him since he had NO FRONT RECOVERY POINTS. Your videos saved the day. You guys rock!
That flashback when Matt said "we'll wait for a catastrophic failure in the mountains" was so perfect haha! He knew it would make for an epic video ;)
Ivan would have cut a tree down, cut a slice of trunk off and used it in place of thr the tyre - No parts required!
@@Cheepchipsable wonder if you could just move one of the middle tires to the rear to keep the track tight? 🤔
Yeah, these guys are masters at setting themselves up for "shoulda, woulda" comments, they know what keeps us coming back!
And, the usual excellent editing with Rudy's icicle snacking, he's so chill.
In the words of Derek from VGG: "So, I decided to do the right thing and ignore it."
Well, it was not the track that went. No reason for him to have replaced foam-filled tires when doing track maintenance.
The fact that the Morvair pulled the Cat on a trailer through that snow is a testimony of its capabilities. That's impressive. Great video!
I love the kid scene, & how they handled things professionally. I really loved Matt's speech about the cold. I could never put my finger on it, but that is why I'm like that. It's a mental thing. I love it, the way Matt articulated that concept
K, we'll stand both of you in the middle of a field at -40 with a wind, buck naked. See how you do.
Matt’s talk about thinking warm makes you warm is somewhat true but also a stretch in facts. If you keep busy and concentrate on other things then yes you don’t focus on the cold the physical activity keeps your core warmed enough that more blood can go to the extremities and you can feel and be warm in cold temperatures. If your not able to stay active you can think being as hot as you want but the body temp will start to lower, it will try to protect the body core by reducing blood flow to extremities, but as the core temp continues to drop Hypothermia sets in and you are done for if you cannot get warmed up.
@@wirefeed3419 I've worked construction for over 30 years so I've spent many winters working in the freezing cold. The heat is in the tools.
You know you have a legitimate recovery business when you can rescue yourself. Well done!
No kidding right!?
I lived in Alaska for 13 years. I worked outside for much of that, and Matt is spot on about ignoring the cold.
In 5F, the wind being perfectly calm was a big factor. If the wind were blowing any, Rudy would have really felt it wearing only that jean jacket. I know with blue jeans, it feels like you are walking around in just shorts if you aren't wearing long underwear.
Not always true. People like me who have cold urticaria would turn red, swell up like a balloon, go into anaphylactic shock and die. Once I put my hands in cold water for 3 minutes and had to be admitted to the hospital. Just watching this makes me uncomfortable. Glad there are people like Matt that can rescue us.
Thank you for the amazing content Matt and crew. If i could be so humble and say from cold Norway that if you're going to be working in these temperatures you need to put on cloths that are suited for these climates. Wool inside and protective layers outside. And a good hat or mutt that can hold your body temperature. Up to 70% of the body's heat goes through the head area. And extra wool socks and underwear if you get wet. And also have food and water for at least 24 hours per person. It's a lesson hard learned from the cold north. Thank you again for the amazing content and this is fast becomming my favorite channel on youtube.
As a fellow with some experience with tracked vehicles, all I can say is they're the best thing ever when they're running. But as soon as they even slightly break, they're the worst thing to ever be involved with. But you still got it solved, good job!
Rebuilding and maintaining work equipment is always the right call. I HATE to be in the middle of a job and have equipment fail.
dont think his would help, this was a tire failure.
That's not how you get a million subs youtube channel!
@@pear7777 Actually, a bogey wheel. They are solid wheels on steel hubs; the ones on our Tucker are harder rubber than the ones shown here. The tracks have a couple of drive wheels (one, in some designs) and a flock of those bogey wheels that set the shape of the track. Bogey wheels take a real beating and have to be replaced every few years in heavy use.

I'm gonna say we were all on the edge of our seats watching how this would come out. Matt seemed like he had a worried look on his face- when he said Oh that's not good. Lots of scenarios running through his head, I'm certain. So glad that things did work out, with a long night, hard work, and good backup. Literally life-saving. Keep up the great work, MORR crew!
Since this channel has started , I have never seen Matt so stressed and concerned but he stayed focused and did what he knew had to be done. Much love to y’all
Suicide hill and radio tower rescues had him bugged a little too. Had me not watching and I was on the couch.
Yep go back and watch the first radio tower hill recovery. This was nothing

You asked for a catastrophic failure on a mountain in the winter.... You got a catastrophic failure on a mountain in the winter... Excellent work on both recoveries!
I’ve watch this video more than once. It is action packed. So much going on. I’ve been in situations similar to this during my life. It always amazes me how your mind goes into a recovery mode and in many ways the elements around you sort of fade away. My mind gets so focused on developing a solution that everything else is secondary. This was a great team effort. I’m glad everyone got out safely. This is a good example of how quickly things can deteriorate. And an even better example of how important it is to stay focused and not panic. I want to know who remembered that the track had been left behind. I’m sure that was a fun filled “oh shoot” moment.
When the flashback popped up with Matt saying he’d wait for catastrophic failure to the tracks, I was instantly taken back to that video. When I was watching and he said that, this video is nearly identical to what I pictured would happen.
At least everybody made it out safe and back to their warm beds. Tomorrow we tackle that track problem hopefully.
Good luck y’all.
Me too!!
Bravo to the editing team for finding that clip of Matt seeing into his future.
When things turn to worms and you keep coming up with different 'fixes'. That's the mark of a real tradesman. Nice work. Never give up!
The secret of Matt being a human heater is finally revealed! The catastrophic failure happened sooner than expected but there is a lesson learned here: Morvair saves anything!!
It's sort of like how Eskimos do it. You stay out in the cold enough your body gets use to it. I'm sitting here in flip flops and a t shirt in 50 degrees in my office, I keep the heat off mostly. It's like if you take a guy from Florida thats use to 80 degree weather and put them in 40 degrees, they're freezing, but a guy from -10 degree Canada will be burning up.
Young grasshopper would be proud of Matt.
I find the best way to defeat the cold is to stay out of it!
@@cojones8518 Has ALOT more to do with your body mass as to why some get cold when others do not. Yes I'll agree that depending where you live your body becomes conditioned to that weather over time and that helps.
I often think to myself......I work in IT, live in the UK....but, love fiddling with old cars (and electronics) as a hobby. If I moved to the states, Hurricane, Utah, sounds like a great place to live, and, Matts team strike me really great people to work with!!.
Yeah, find a place in the U.S. where you can drive an old truck with bondo showing and fresh welds - someplce without a lot of rust - and you will find happiness. Don’t wait, sell everything and come here and join us! Your family back home will have a place to visit
I live in Maine, have done 2 - 2 week motorcycling trips in the western US and (on purpose) southern Utah was covered on both trips. Beauty and variety.
love the cool runnings reference. I feel like you need a winch on that bad boy. I feel like driving backward under heavy load with snowcats puts all the pressure on the back tire (being pulled inward) as all the weight has to pivot directly off the rears and the gears
Wow, that’s why preventive maintenance is so valuable. But I’m glad everything worked out for you and no one was hurt
👍When things go wrong don't go with them.
He mentioned he wanted to rebuild the tracks but it’s the tire that blew. So unless your replacing tires every few years on a snow cat that looks like it’s needs the track off to replace them, I don’t see what could of been prevented.
@@Swissk31300BO He also said its likely a stock tire, this thing is more than a few years old.
At least check the tires yearly, maybe they would not find anything but maybe it was pure luck this didnt happen 1-5 years ago
@JM he knew the tracks needed tires/service he ignored it all knowing the wheels were old
Perhaps the best thing Matt's Towing can do is to educate MANY people about how to travel in sand, snow, mud, dark, whatever. And this was a classic example of what NOT to do.
"Wait for catastrophic failure in the snow, dark, cold, alone on a mountaintop."
Matt planned for this just to demonstrate to people ! What courage and dedication !!!
Yeah... that's the ticket!
And having snow chains on board when driving in winter is only something for cowards 🤭
Hey Matt, just wanted you guys to know, I know you were trying to help people out with tows. So I'm on board no matter what happens, Hopefully it all gets worked out, you know what I mean. Peace out.
The look on Matt's face when the track was skipping..EEk, I know that feeling and I could feel it through Matt's expression. Good work.
The perseverance of you, your family, and your whole crew never gets old. Amazing!
That was a great recovery! The customers were taken care of, with no damage to their vehicle that I could see.... And then the offroad gods decided to test your guy's fortitude.... You guys PASSED! Seems like this episode of MORR was getting a little off track!
I’ll see myself out.
See that you do, boyo!
Cold weather makes every problem all that more possible to occur - maintenance is always a must and never overkill
One thing I've learnt watching recovery video's on UA-cam including Jamie Davis's Video's is anything you skip fixing or replacing when the weather is good and you've got time to fix will come back to bite you later on when you need it to be reliable and the weather is bad.
I always feel like I handle pressure well, and then I watch one of these videos and realize how much further I have to go. There definitely would have been plenty of bleeping going on if I was in that situation. You guys are role.models in so many different ways.
As a person who has experience with throwing track I know the pain they feel with this mishap. The worst one ive seen but was no part of was when we were getting our brads and support vics ready for a convoy in Korea. We had this trail from the motor pool that when up and over a large hill. At the half way point the trail turns 120 degrees upwards. A very nasty trail to throw track on. well the M88 of the company mechanics threw the track off. Thats a big ass vehicle to be throwing track and it was muddy and cold and it was on an incline... It was terrible. Took them a few hours to get it all back together. Then they had to drive to the destination and then If memory serves me they pulled pac on one brad that blew the engine in route and replaced it. Tough dudes an very hard working.
My hat is off to the whole team for finding a way to overcome all challenges, including the weather. Well done!

As my dad was getting older sometimes a car problem would start working again and "fix itself so it must be ok". Many years later - yesterday I caught myself starting to think the same way but learned my lesson, stopped and just fixed it the right way. Glad everyone made it out of an extremely dangerous situation OK!
You're spot on about the cold and perceiving it differently. The lowest temps I could run around in a t-shirt and be comfortable was -7f. Consider it a form of biofeedback. It takes practice, but you can possibly take it too far and potentially make yourself sick, so please be careful.
For sure, the people wearing their winter jackets in November, have a tough time in January. Every year I hear the same comment "aren't you cold".
While it’s not extreme colds in the southeast, I’ve always said the same thing. It’s a matter of thinking it’s cold. Folks always think I’m crazy. Just one of those things growing outdoors and then being in the army taught me.
the fact they are doing physical labor makes it a lot easier to not get cold. im sure if they were just standing around doing nothing itd be a lot worse

Coldest I’ve done is -15°F in Alaska but 17°F in windy Chicago was a whole other story.
@@KaseeSmith yep.
I was in basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC from August to November. It was starting to get cool by the time it was over. It dropped down into the 50’s one day, great weather IMO, and my buddy from Alaska was shivering like crazy. I said “man, you can’t be cold. You’re from Alaska.”
He managed to get out, through chattering teeth “thiiisss, isss, different.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. That humid cold is different than dry cold.
I had visited my best friend in Chicago a few times for New Years. The first couple of trips was nice weather and I made the comment “man, I thought you said it got cold?” Then I visited one year and when we walked out of the airport it was almost like I had on no clothes. That wind hit me to my bones. I looked at him and said “ok, sorry I ever doubted you. This is f’ing cold!”
You guys are so calm even during the worst of incidents and just figure out how to work through the problem without any drama. Cool how you guys always work the problem. Enjoyed Matt's explanation of "Mind control" pertaining to cold. Good luck with parts for the Bombi and getting it back up and running.
That mind control method will only work to a certain degree though :-) I've hiked in the mountains with temps up till -20C (-4F) and being pretty warm, without gloves, beanie and with coat open, and using that mindset Matt mentioned . It works, but only when you stay busy and keep moving. But when it's -40C (-40F) you have to be *really* well trained (aka Wim Hofman) to pull off not having proper clothing on for the situation and there is a real risk of frostbite.

You're absolutely right about the cold. Just accept it and keep moving / active. You'll be able to deal with it much better.
Yep. I do my morning runs in tshirt & shorts down to about 25degF (depending on wind/rain conditions). Main thing is that I am more careful with ears nose and throat when it gets cold.
11:40 this is why this channel and family is so great. Such a predicament to be in, yet still able to be that loose about it, while still having your smarts about it.
I'm always so impressed at how cool Matt and the whole crew keeps its cool when SHTF. That's one of the biggest reasons I love this channel.
I'd just like to point out that one of the two middle tires could have been moved to the rearmost axle to restore track tension. Then Bombi could have limped out with fewer issues. This made a better video though.
I’m sure they didn’t have any tools to be able to do that where they were at.
@@smcox1991 True, but they may have had enough tools in the truck, and when they called for help, tools could have been brought. In all fairness they were tired, cold, and grumpy. Not blaming what they did, just offering a possible solution for next time.

Being a belt+suspenders kinda guy who has to plan for every possible contingency before acting, I have to admire the seat-of-the-pants, we'll-figure-it-out attitude displayed by the MORR team. Everybody stays calm and works the problem. Lots of out-of-the-box thinking and creative use of available resources.
But the idea is to avoid it. MATT IS the rescue...what if they were on the way to rescue a vehicle with dead engine miles out there and that track broke like that, in those temps people can freeze ...could be a matter of life and death
Admire wouldn't be the word I'd use. Maintain your danged equipment......

Two things. I agree with Johnny Boy, put that kind of stuff out of your mind and you start to win. I have been involved in many a off road debacle. At my age to many to remember, but remember enough for great stories. I know there is some editing going. My experience has when everyone is staying in a good mood things are much easier. When someone, especially the significant other goes rouge it can be a long lasting disaster. I know! I am sure by know Miss Jamie has been through a few and understands that also.
Mind over matter indeed. I left behind many barriers that turned out to be only in my head with this way of thinking. You can literally free yourself from the everyday suffering many people experience.
Being a heavy rigger of 18 years and a lead man for 9, my back and shoulders tense up every time the rope is loaded.
I lean up in my seat and I do not relax until the rope gets slack and every one is safe.
This is the second video that I noticed this.
Great job of bringing us into your world.
That is why you were good. The bad ones don't care enough to make everything right.
Been a fieldservice mechanic for 22 years. Spent majority of my career in northern Wyoming and North Dakota. Iv tried changing my perception of the cold, but I always go numb and must warm my extremities. Now I’m based in Colorado, the winters are mild, rarely do I find myself challenged by the cold, worst cold I experience is conditions your having in this video. Not to bad, it’s well above 0 and wind is calm.
Matt is Awesome, he just seems to have been blessed with the ability to see what to do or which way to move a vehicle , to get it out, Love your channel!
Hey Matt and Crew
For all the recoverys you do and have little or no problems, to have something like this happen is to be expected.
And you were able to work it out and everyone got headed home safely.
I would still call it a WIN !
Stay Warm, Be Safe
Hello from south-central Wisconsin!
I started watching MORR here on UA-cam 10 days ago or so. Then, the channel had about 959k subs. Now, the channel has over 970k subs. Easy math says that’s at least 1,100 subs/day! Are you kidding me?!?!
Keep up the awesome work MORR team! Looking forward to seeing more recoveries, more projects, and more shenanigans!
We love you Rudy!!! Proud that you represent Canada well. Cold, snow, broken equipment...NOTHING stops you and the crew!
Canada ?? This is murica
@@jordan1352 I’m Canadian 😉
@@morrrudy434 and I never heard you say “eh” once in the last few days 😂 it was great to meet y’all at the meetup :)
@@morrrudy434 really ?? I never knew... so is matt Canadian?? Or has he always lived in the US/ Utah ??
Like the thoughts on keeping yourself warm when it is cold however, I would question the effectiveness at very cold temperatures. At -40 it is a very different ball game. Enjoy the channel!
I was at a baseball tournament years ago in Albuquerque and my grandpa had gone too. It was one of the hottest days but my grandpa wasn’t even sweating or looked hot whatsoever. He told me and my sister it’s all in your head to think cool. Ever since then it stuck with me and helps me deal with weather while working in the oilfield. Great advice
Repeat after me. Preventive maintenance IS very important and should never be ignored. Everybody now , Preventive maintenance IS very important and should never be ignored.
Can you repeat that 👍
Got it: "Preventive maintenance should be ignored if you want to make a melodrama channel; it should not be ignored it you want to make a hero channel." This is a hero channel - I am sure the lesson was not lost on this crew.
The lack of F Words is amazing! Y’all are awesome, God Bless! New Braunfels Texas
If I hear too many, unsubscribe.
They are Mormons which may explain the lack of the “ F” word. Wouldn’t have stopped me I’m afraid 😂
cancels out, break downs make better content
?? I heard many F words. Freezing, Frigid, Funny, Footloose and Fancy. It's all in the mind..as Matt indicated
@@airbryan61 👍👍👍
Breakdown when it is 5 above Zero, that is one difficult situation to be in. And Matt, where is your coat and no hot coffee. All will be happy when this night is over and one recovery that will long be remembered.
Blessings that everyone made it home safe. Matt you did it again great job everyone. 🙏🦾
Incredible video, the perseverance to battle through a situation like that, come up with a solution and execute it all in the middle of the night and cold is what separates MORR from many others.
I watch all MOR videos and I have learned many things:
Matt is lazier than he should be. And he knows it.
Matt doesn't believe in proper prior preparation.
Matt has the bravery to post the unflattering videos that most people would never have the guts to.
Combined = the best UA-cam channel of all.
Keep kludging Matt, I got more popcorn.
Rudy with the Cool Runnings line. AWESOME!!
What a mess, Matt! The flashback was perfect! 🤣 Thank goodness for Jefe and the Morrvair! I’m so glad you were able to get out of there! 🥶
This is MATT'S RECOVERY !! so much fun to tag along with you guys, Rudy's calm, cool and collective !, Matt's tellin us I no longer get cold ? LOL ... and Jamie's a Trooper !, luc ya Matt bro 👍👍❤❤
That was epic! The rescuer had to "make the call" and became the rescued! Don't forget to give yourself a "Matt's Off Road Recovery" T-Shirt 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They aren't high-visibility, so he would have to cover it up with something that is.
