    Very important step when replacing the fuel filter/water separator element, feel the underside of the filter with your finger to check for corrosion and salt build up. I change hundreds of filters and frequently find build up on the aluminum filter housing seal surface

    Great videos, thanks. I have been doing the 100 / 300 hour services on our 2017 Yamaha 150 with no problems. We are due soon for the 500 hour service that talks about "internal" anodes, which I am not familiar with. Do you think this is a DIY thing or should I take it in for servicing? By the way, we live here in Marathon and love your videos of areas around the Keys.

    I have a 2015 150xb. I did my water pump at 200hrs Wich still looked perfect but I will say this to maybe help prevent the issue I had. So I used marine grease on the drive shaft splines carful not to put on the tip and everything went fine for a while but then my engine started making a loud squealing sound and I called my dealer because I thought it was a idler pulley or belt issue but it turned out that because I didn't know to use the Yamaha brand wr2 grease on the shaft splines the bushing was squealing.. lesson learned.. not a big deal but Im sure many guys are going to find out this also bc wr2 grease isn't even sold at my dealer.. hope this helps any1

    I wish I could get you guys to do my engine service! I don't think my mechanic is that thorough. Should you consider an oil change and standard maintenance on this engine even if it hasn't reached the 100 hour service mark but it has been operated for two seasons. I probably only have about 60 or 70 hours but it has been 2 years since my last service. (the boat has a total of about 160 total hours) I was considering calling my mechanic and having him change the oil and check everything. I like to stay ahead of my service to stay safe on the water.

      What gauge do you have? Square, round, rectangle? Square and round ones, you can turn the key switch on, press mode once to get the maintenance screen off. Then hold the mode button until a different screen pops up, let go of the mode button and hold the set button until it resets. Depending on the gauge you might have to hold the mode and the set button together to reset it ;) hope this helps!

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 років тому

      It's not exactly the same, but it's extremely similar. There isn't anything that is a huge difference, most of the stuff is in the same place. They are pretty much the same engine, the 150, 175, and the 200. I think the 175 came out in like 2014 so it should basically be the same thing. We don't see a lot of 175's down here to be honest :)

    Is the thermostat changed every hundred hours? Also do you pull down the lower section and change the water pump every hundred hours? Or was the one that you were showing us run dry? Maybe that’s why it was changed? That water pump look pretty smoked!
    Do you pull the anodes near the spark plugs out and check them at 100 hours? Do you replace the spark plugs every hundred hours? I’m a new owner of a boat with F150HP and 175 hours. Not sure what was done not sure where to go from here.

    Manual says to inspect/replace at every 100 hour service or once per year. You're just replacing everything it says to inspect or replace. So for the impeller and the thermostat, do you tear into them every 100 hours to inspect them and close them back up if OK? If you do open them up to inspect, do new seals need to be installed if they parts don't need replacement?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  3 роки тому +2

      The video just shows a complete 300 hour service where you replace everything. It all depends on where you are in your service schedule, hours on the engine, time since last serviced, etc. I wouldnt drop the lower to inspect the impeller, but you can take the thermostat out and inspect it like the manual says. Sometimes you might need to replace the gasket though, depending if it tears or not. You will get used to your engine and even more so as you get on a service schedule throughout the years :)

    Didn't see the purchase info on impeller kit. Is it the same for a 2015 XA? I have an F150XB but only seem to find kits with F150XA on them online?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  3 роки тому +1

      You probably don't need a "kit." Yamaha doesn't have a "service kit" like other brands do, yet, or that I know of. The impeller kit they do have you probably don't need, unless something has happened.
      The impeller service usually just requires you to change out the driveshaft seals, top seal cover, base gasket, impeller, and the two drain seal gaskets. But these are inspect and replace as needed parts, you might only need the impeller and base gasket and drain seals.
      The XB and XA use the same parts as well. The A was just F150's from 2012-2014 and the B is from 2015-present, but the impellers and gaskets are the same

    What’s your recommendation on how to store the engine when not in use…up or down position?

    • @BornAgainBoating

      Storing the engine in an upright or vertical position, with the powerhead facing upwards is best.

    Draining a yamaha f60 VST?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 роки тому

      Is basically the same as all Yamahas. There should be a clear hose under the vst and a screw that you can use a flat head or a Philip's to undo. You may need to break it free with the flathead. Then drain the vst through that hose. I'm not sure, depending on the year, if there is a Schrader valve that you can vent the vst to let all the fuel out. If not, you'll have to put air in that clear hose to pressurize the vst to push all the fuel out. Itll take probably 10 minutes to do it you have to

      @@skandic440 I've had my Etec for 4 years with 300+ hours and only on my 2nd gallon of oil.
