    However, it terrifies me (watching you), so if I ever want to switch out the chainring!!! I will probably ship it to Commencal's USA shop in Colorado when it's due for a rebuild!

    I installed a complete sx groupset on my 2019 marlin 5 and I love it. There's no comparison to the stock 3by tourney system. It's a whole new bike with that 1x12. I paid either $235. Delivered to my door in 3 weeks after order from aliexpress. Serial number intact, mint brand new set. 175mm crank arms, dub bb, 32t chainring, chain, cassette, derailleur, and shifter. In Europe, the NX DUB crank is $10 more than SX DUB, both shipped w. same 32T steel chainring. NX is 75 g lighter than SX so I would go NX over SX every time! I'm using a 62 g Eagle XX1 SL 34T ring on my 555 g NX DUB 175 mm cranks, plus 5 g for the thee bolts = 622 g total.
    SLX M7100 cranks are yet another 35 g lighter than NX, at the same price. Shimano HT2 bb is $10 less than DUB bb, same weight. Making SLX crank + bb same price as SX but 110 g ligher. For my Shimano cranks (M8000, M7100, R8000, GRX etc.) I use Garbaruk chainrings.

      @@LoveMTB As long as the heft isn't an issue, they're ok. Personally, I would sell away the SX crank + heavy 32T steel chainring before I use it, since I mind the heft and use 34T chainings on my mtb's.

    I also removed a SRAM chainset in the same way using the ParkTool HT-8 and a plastic pipe for added leverage. The chainset was factory installed on a SCOTT spark. Worth noting that it took a brutal amount of force (my wife had to hold down the front end of the bike) and the bolt came loose iwth a LOUD BANG initially convincing me it broke.

      Cane Creek DUB bottom bracket comes with a metal one that they also sell separately, but I read somewhere that the plastic is actually preferable because it is super important to not over-tighten it. Suprised the person who created the video didn't include more warnings about it? The SRAM DUB installation videos and the instructions that come with the bottom brackets include a lot of warnings about not over-tightening the ring which from my understanding really just a moveable spacer to keep the bearings in the proper place...

    Looks like it's a pretty good build quality, and like it or not the DUB 29.99 annoying measure is versatile enough because it supports some really good carbon cranks along with some cheap and "good enough" aluminium cranks like this SX. I have been running an older x01 carbon crank on one of the bikes and I didn't bother switching the ring on it, and I can't feel any difference on the HG+ shifting between this and my other bikes with full Shimano 12sp builds. The only difference is that the Shimano quicklink wont work with a sram ring, so use a sram link for it, and it's fine. Just my 2c.

    • @TeamCykelhold

      @@LoveMTB No, not at all. Maybe it's because the ring is a bit worn, or maybe some other magic because a friend of mine couldn't get this exact setup working properly. I didn't get the chance to have a proper look at his bike, so I can't say for sure if he messed something up himself.

    Happy new year all . Just unbelievable info in such a short video , I've finally changed to shimamo xt 12 from originally having sx . I've got the sx crankset wich I use with the shimano xt cassete - chain - derailleur , problem is now I have some grinding noise coming from the chain ring on the crankset even with your advice to put a sram power link on the chain instead of the shimano one . Is the shimano slx crankset that much better vs sram sx or should I go for the chain ring that supports shimano HP + on the sx crankset? Thanks again for the great videos and information. Wish you a wonderful new year and many more great videos .

    I grew up like many finding bikes and rebuilding them, always loved doing this.
    Back in 2009 I bought a Giant ATX hard tale frame on eBay thinking I would collect parts and build a bike. Fast forward 13 years and here lies the frame lol.
    I have found bits of information here and there about the frame specs , measurements etc…
    I was going to start with the bottom bracket/cranks but all I know is that it is a 68mm English thread BB .
    How do I determine the spindle length?
    Also I am assuming this is a non boost frame based on age alone… I was going to go with a relatively inexpensive SRAM NX drive train for a cost effective build. Any information would be helpful. Anyone know the best way to get going on this build as I would love to start doing this for a hobby. Just bought a nice park bike stand and am purchasing tools…..
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    My new bike came with a full SX Eagle group. I find the derailleur to be poor quality, but the rest, including the crankset, is very sturdy. I presume I will replace the derailleur and shifter with GX components in the future.

    • @tommycooperfish
      @tommycooperfish 3 роки тому

      My SX derailleur broke within 2 months of getting my trail bike and I upgraded just the mech to GX (but will do shifter soon too) it's way sturdier made and had a lot more metal parts vs plastic composite, still coming from shimano all my life the performance to cost is way higher with sram.
      The rest like you said is fine, although GX cranks do look better and are lighter.

      I agree. I have this component on my cheap hard and the shifting seems so super slow compared to my XO on my Yeti. So here's the question: To increase shifting speed and efficiency, do you replace the shifter or the derailer?

    Great video as usual sir. Concise, thorough and useful information. I need to replace a Suntour Zeron that came on my Vitus Mythique boost 10sp. I've been shopping around exploring my options. I don't want to be cheap on my crank because I do ride at a high level but I am a frugal man by nature. Any advice? I would prefer a silver/chrome color to stick with the theme of my bike. I've been looking seriously at the Hope Evo? What do you think about the Evo? Btw... HAPPY NEW YEAR 😁

      @jimig399 3 роки тому

      @@LoveMTB 🤨 so you don't like the Hope Evo? 😀 Every bike I've ever owned has had Shimano. The last 2 have had SLX trains. Believe it or not I prefer a 9 or 10 spd over 11&12. I tried to give them a chance but I ride hard and I'm a bit set in my ways and when I find something that suits me comfortably it's hard to knock me off of it. I ride alot of street and skate park bowl. SLX trains aren't stiff enough for what I do. I get alot of flex and audible feedback that gets in my head and throws me off of my game. I'm coming off an SLX train and really want to do something different for my next build. Plus Im trying to achieve a semi-retro look and my vision is definitely envisioned around a silver/chrome finish on my crank arms. SLX does not have that option. I do appreciate your response and suggestion. If you have any advice for me on this but prefer to do so on a different channel I would completely understand and appreciate any insight you could provide.. jimbobfrisbeefreak@gmail.com
