First Time Reaction to AMORPHIS - On The Dark Waters

  • I'm listening to this band for the very first band and I will be giving commentary on various aspects of the track, including production quality, mixing, the rhythm section, the fusion of folk, metal, and progressive elements, and the vocal performance.
The overall production of the song is great. While i've found the rhythm section to be slightly repetitive.
Accompanying the music is a wonderful video that captivates viewers with its simplicity, yet strongly evokes a specific mood that aligns with the song's theme. The lyrics of "On the Dark Waters" take listeners on a journey through Tuonela's mysterious realm, where a ship of bone carries the dead downstream. As the boat sails against the current, the passengers await their final destination, while the river itself undergoes a transformative and tumultuous metamorphosis.

I wasn't a fan of growling... until i heard Amorphis three years before and now i am a great great fan of the band.
They have folk elements in their music 🎶 this is wonderful to me, they put folk elements from the second album Tales of the thousand lakes and the rest is history.
Popish elements ... isn't bad at all pop means popular and eighties my best era of metal.
So i love pop, eighties metal and folk elements in their music, this is the reason that i am in love with the band.
So because you can't understand Amorphis music with one song you must dive into their music for good.
If you want to react in some other songs of Amorphis i can't choose because i love all of them but you can start with the Bee from the previous album and under the red cloud , you can also to continue with brother and sister, silent waters, amongst stars and my cantele.
I feel sorry for the rest beloving song but this is a start.
I don't like your reaction dude, maybe we have different taste of music, you are young and the younger ages have some terrific taste 😂in music 🎶.
You didn't knew NW was from Finland? Oh dude this is a sin.
    Greetings from Greece!!!

House of Sleeps is pretty nice.
But 🤔... it is, however, when Pasi Koskinen was Amorphis's singer. It was the weakest time of Amorphis!
PK was hardly interested in performing, and nothing else was and fortunately the story came to an end as Tomi Joutsen came after that and began even the most era of Amorphis💙🇫🇮

You said it is always dark in Finland. The clock is here at 23.34 and see, the sun does not fall completely all night. Here is a mid -summer celebration called the word Juhannus.
I can't put a picture here but you can see what Midsummer looks like in Finland🇫🇮💙

@@patroden But the video is not shot in winter. It can be seen in trees with no ice and a small stream that is not frozen. I think that is March or April.
You have to come to Finland in the winter and see what I mean 😂.
But happy midsummer party Diego (not Pedro)🤦🏼‍♂️
      And thanks that channel 🤟🏼

You should listen to the song called The Bee! It's great and I think represents them better than this one though I love this too🙌🏼 Greetings from Finland!🇫🇮
Also, Sentenced is a band worth checking out like somebody already suggested :)

The Bee is hands down the best Amorphis song.
It's based on a story from the Finnish epic poem Kalevala. A character named Lemminkäinen drowns in the river Tuonela (river of death). His mother collects all his scattered body parts from the river with a rake and sews them back together. She tries to bring him back to life with her magic but fails, so she sends a bee to the heaven, to fetch honey from Sky God Ukko. With that honey, she finally manages to bring Lemminkäinen back to life.

First, Thanks to your Finnish followers to suggest Amorphis.

You started with a really special Amorphis song. I think you would have liked another song more. You should get to know Amorphis better.
But I found you through a Finnish video and now you put a Finnish band video on your channel. I really appreciate it. And since I love your channel, now is the time to offer coffee.
By the way, I thought for a long time that you were German. That's why I was surprised that you knew a little about Finnish metal bands. But Uruguay, I appreciate!
At the same time, I listen to this review as I write this. Not all Amorphis songs are so folk.
Tomi Joutsenen's sound is really power💙 🇫🇮 Still, it is not until Anus. I think it's a Swedish way🤔
Jinjer sounds more to Arch Enemy than Amorphis ... I guess.
P.S. The video was filmed in late winter when the bright time is increasing in Finland. In mid -summer, Finland has no dark time for more than a few hours a day. There will be no dark in Lapland at all. Come here and you see it.
Amorphis has a lot of material. Listen to Black Winter Day from the first album. And listen to the album at a time .. Amorphis💙🇫🇮🖤
Next, put Sentenced's Excuse Me While I Kill MySelf. It has beautiful words and reflects Finnishness well Anyway, thanks for the review.

I think I agree totally: it is ok, but nothing that gets my big butt up from the sofa. I am mostly not a fan of growling, and when he started singing, it caught me much more. But actually I found that the only really interesting part was that guitar solo in the middle… and maybe the end. I love to be surprised in music, and I didn´t get very surprised. I still think you should play and react to the norwegian band, I wrote about before. It is not metal, but it is MUSIC!!! With surprises and a mix of ompa-polka-balkan-rock… it is called Kaizers Orchestra… and one of the best songs is `begravelsespolka´. And yes, i missed you 🤣. Hugs from Denmark. Lene61/🇩🇰

My first thought was that you seem to think that Amorphis has copied/stolen everything from some other bands. I'm certain that's not the case. However, I'm a little concerned that you didn't even try to find the folklore references behind the song (after all, Amorphis leans to folklore in the majority of their songs). In Finland, we take the river of Tuonela, and its dark waters, quite seriously. After all, it is the passageway for the dead to the underworld.

    • @patroden
      @patroden  9 місяців тому

Hey! I don't think they've stolen anything. Everyone steals something to create their own. As a first time reaction, I am limited to share the true first impact the song made, so I am not in the position to be obligued to learn more about the background of the music. If one day I do a documentary or something informative, then I will.
